Incredibly smart robot vacuum
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve used several robot vacuums over the years and eventually got rid of them all, until now. Deebot T8 shows that robot vacuums have finally come of age. This robot can efficiently and intelligently vacuum my 700 sq ft apartment and then repeat it in mopping mode, with quite a bit of power remaining. The T8 is incredibly smart and able to avoid getting entangled by various household obsticals and knows not to overly avoid pets or humans temporarily in its way. It is a fantastic robot, would highly recommend it if you doubted the abilities of robot vacuums. The optional power mopping attachment is worth considering if you really care about the mopping function. The robot is better at maintaining a not too dirty hardwood floor than mopping up tough stuck on stains.

Buggy
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. On paper it has great features, and I really want to like it more, and maybe I will over time. But first impressions were rough. This vac is plagued by wifi connectivity issues, poor documentation, and a slow app. By far the biggest issue is wifi connectivity. Connecting the vacuum to the app is a real chore. The device only works on 2.4Ghz WiFi. Even though I have a separate network for 2.4Ghz, the app timed out many times trying to connect to the device. Even now, when I launch the app, it’s a gamble whether or not it will work. Sometimes the wifi light on the vac is solid white, showing it’s online, but even then the app can’t connect to it whether I use an iOS or Android device. Plus the app is slow. Deebot should really take a lesson from Dyson. I have a couple of Dyson air filters and they have completely nailed the networking experience. Next, the instruction manual indicates that the charging station needs 1.64 feet on either side plus 4.92 feet in front. That’s a lot of space for apartments, condos and other small residences. Fortunately the vacuum has not complained about being put in a tighter spot. I was also disappointed that the mop function only works with water, no soap or other cleaning fluid should be added. But, it’s better than nothing. Lastly, the vac can map out multiple floors. Unfortunately, you have to move the base station to the new floor as well to do the mapping. It’s not engineered to add a new floor while recognizing the base station is on a different floor. After I mapped a second floor, I later let it run on that floor without moving the base station. Surprisingly it worked and recognized the floor. But when I brought it back to the main floor with the base station, it started remapping that floor. The documentation is not clear whether the base needs to be moved only for the initial mapping, or for every time you change floors. So how does it clean? About as well as any robot vac. It has variable suction power. When the floor changes from carpet to tile, for example, the vac automatically reduces suction. On both tile and carpet, it left behind a loose crumb or two in the middle of the floor. Not sure what happened there. It also does not get as close as I’d hoped to wall edges and furniture legs. Turning up the vacuum suction power to Max or Max+ helps. There are some positives, however. The disposal station is great. When the robot is done vacuuming, it returns to the base where its trash is automatically sucked into the station. And the station uses an internal bag to collect the trash, so it is easy and not messy to deal with. Unfortunately, there is no way to manually initiate the base station to suck in the waste from the vac. The vacuum is also fairly quiet compared to other robots I've used. And its pitch is not whiny. All in all, it feels like the product is still in beta. If the connectivity remained stable, I’d rate this 4 stars. But I would not recommend it for now.

Posted .Thank you for your review. Currently, ECOVACS robots only work with 2.4GHz wireless networks, as 2.4GHz has greater range than 5GHz and it’s important for a robotic vacuum to stay connected as it’s mapping the house. During first-time setup of your DEEBOT, we recommend you set it up close to your router and phone.
For cleaning multiple floors, it is not necessary to move the base station (Auto-Empty Station) from floor to floor. Your DEEBOT will return to its starting point after it has finished cleaning. However, be sure to save each map (look for the map icon in the app) after your robot has completed its first cleaning.

Very intelligent robot vacuum
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Perhaps the most exciting part of this robot vacuum is watching it map your home for the first time. It uses a variety of sensors to detect walls and other obstacles, and starts by primarily mapping out the outer perimeter of your home then methodically going up and down to fill and map the rest of the area, finding your furniture and interior walls. This first pass with it is most important, because then you can then label the rooms, which can then be used to tell the vacuum where to go, or for scheduling. Also, impressively, it will map out your wifi network signal as well. It was able to very accurately pinpoint the location of my wifi router. I suspect it uses this information to help, in part, to orient itself within the home. You can pick up the vacuum, move it anywhere, and it will figure out where it is with little fuss, and relatively high accuracy. Being able to be aware of both its location, and the layout of your home, means it makes relatively quick work of its cleaning duties. It wastes no time by cleaning areas it's already done, and can maintain a efficient up-and-down pattern through an area. Now for the downsides... despite all its smarts, all its sensors, it can't tell you when its dustbin is full. The vacuum will soldier on, effectively doing nothing, because it's full. This is especially frustration since it has an auto-emptying base station. So you'll have to periodically check it to see if it's full and manually empty it. I've worked around this by scheduling cleanings in smaller chunks, or one room at a time, so it will return to the base station and empty (ideally before it's full) more often. I also have it clean slightly more frequently than I'd prefer, so it has less to collect. Fortunately at least, the base station dust bag, while does appear to be small, still seems to manage to hold a fair bit of dirt and debris. Also the mop function isn't super great. I'd rather have it than not, but it doesn't seem to heat the water, and unless you set it on the highest water flow, or pre-soak the mop cloth, it doesn't really get the floor very wet. It also vacuums and mops at the same time, as opposed to vacuuming then mopping. The obvious problem with this is trying to "mop" an already wet floor, or to clean up liquid spills. You can't... because it will vacuum it, which isn't good for the vacuum or the filters. So that's a bummer. Overall, I think it's a great vacuum, and my apartment is cleaner with it, while saving me time and effort.

Smartest robot vaccum I have encountered
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was looking for a replacement robot vaccum that I did not have to supervise while I was away from home. I saw some reviews and noticed the T8 had good navigational skills in tests, and the recent deal at Best Buy which included the self emptying bin was too much to pass up on. Setup was easy using the supplied quick start card in the unit. I have mapped my downstairs, mopped my bathroom and kitchen, and mapped the upstairs so far. Despite having the downstairs pretty clean already with an upright vaccum and an older Bissel Smart Vac robot, the T8 still managed to get a nearly full bin when it finished its first run. I have low pile carpets and I did notice the design of the bin did not allow the carpet dust to be removed fully. I simply took the bin and emptied it manually in the garbage. Subsequent runs of the vaccum had the bin emptied completely. It would be nice if something could be done so the bin emptied fully all the time, but it was not something troublesome to me. The only other thing I noticed is that perhaps the side brushes could be stiffer, or have more arms to agitate carpets better. The current brushes seem to distort quite a bit when on carpet and I dont know if that affects their efficiency. Below is a video of the unit on carpet filmed through a night vision camera, you can see a lot of sensor systems you normally cant to make sure the unit does not beat up your furniture or delicate home decor, and you can see how the brushes work on carpet. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1a0oROBOD4j2oHZRna0OgDRNcxe9yq3Pu/view?usp=sharing Once the floors were mapped and saved, it was a breeze to set up no go lines or boxes to help keep the vaccum out of areas that might be trouble if your away from home. I liked the mopping feature, but noticed with the disposable pads I used that the contact area with the floor is relatively small, because the pad angles down to the floor. Perhaps added thicker padding to give more contact would help. But I like that it helps me maintain the floors. The unit saves me a lot of time for other tasks, and I noticed that the support for this vaccum is excellent with rapid improvements and software updates, and it is much quieter than my older robot vaccum.

Very Happy with this Robot
Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So far very happy with this. I chose this because we have had good luck with Deebot 79s, and I got it at a fantastic holiday price from Best Buy. Easy to set up the day after Christmas. It took 3 trips to fully map our main floor. Once mapped, I was able to designate separate areas although this function is imperfect. I could not completely separate our living room from the kitchen and dining room since the dividing tool kept overlapping other areas. Hoping future updates to the app improve this. And it is a real plus that all 3 Deebots we have can be managed in the one app. Once separate areas were set up, it was easy to set up different cleaning schedules for high use versus low use rooms in the house. The schedules are working perfectly. I like that you can hear the vacuum shift to higher power on carpet and then lower on hardwood and tile. Because of that, coupled with the very systematic approach to vacuuming, it feels like it's doing a better job than the Deebot 79s. This Deebot runs a long time--today it went 115 minutes before returning to base to recharge after cleaning almost 900 square feet. It is not perfect--it has managed to climb up on the base of our Breuer style chairs and get hung up. It has also hung up on the edge of area rugs both in our dining room and living room--the Deebot 79 never had this problem in the dining room. I wanted this for the self-emptying feature since having to empty the Deebot 79 everyday was a pain. So far, this feature is working perfectly although it is pretty loud while operating! With 3 cats I'm not sure how long we will go between replacing the catch bag. I have not tried the mopping feature. I like that I won't have to use throw away pads and suspect the microfiber pad will do a better job anyway.

Definitely best robo vac brand so far.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have tried so many robovac and I must say this is definitely one of the two best performing + cost efficient vac I've tried. The ecovac is on par with the Roborck, they both have mopping features. The lidar scanner is so effective. It worked better than my Roomba camera system. I would say the Ecovac and Roborock are on the highest level, with Roomba following but significantly overpriced, and Shark is the worst because it doesn't clean as well and it not as good at mapping as the Ecovac. Good buy this time!

Almost Perfect, But Missing The Mark
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The features it has are wonderful, useful, and well thought out, but the things that it lacks (including a complete manual) will make or break. I’m an engineer; it is extremely clear that careful thought was put into the design. Both of the mechanics / technology, but also to small details (parts are color-coded, the side brushes are angled downward instead of horizontal to maximize contact with the floor / carpet, there is a small storage slot for the brush used to clean the sensors and other parts, the sloping of the docking station for when it’s placed on carpeting). I use the ECOVACS DEEBOT OZMO T8 (I’ll refer to it as the ‘OZMO T8’ for the rest of this review) in my single-floor ~1100 square foot apartment. The only setup issue was recognizing my 2.4GHz WiFi channel, even though the OZMO T8 was within 10’ of the router. It was great to have the QR code on the robot itself. Otherwise, the app was easy to set up. It was good that you could simultaneously charge the OZMO T8 and do the initial setup. It is ingenious that the OZMO T8 has a sensor to recognize carpet versus floor, such that when the ‘Auto-Boost Suction’ was set to ON, the vacuum suction would increase when it went onto carpet. I like that it will let you select from four vacuum suction levels. It’s great that I can use it on another floor of the house, without [theoretically] losing the map the unit made of the previous one. The unit has great flexibility in scheduling cleaning routines, but I’m used to scheduling them during the night. The unit has a ‘Do Not Disturb’ setting which turns off the light and speaker, however, if that function is activated, it does perform scheduled cleanings My 2-star rating is a direct result of a poorly-written manual and the following additional reasons: MOPPING: The manual shows the location of the water reservoir, how to maintain it, and how to troubleshoot it, but DOES NOT explain the associated functions, how to activate the cleaning, what the overall settings mean, etc. After using this for ~1.5 weeks, I still do not know if the mop function is active all of the time or not. There is nothing whatsoever about how to set up the unit for mopping, if I can even use detergent, when to use the four Water Flow Levels, or how to get the most efficient mopping from the unit. I was not unfortunately able to do a thorough assessment of the mopping capability. CLEANING: The map that is developed when the OZMO T8 runs (to map the areas) is not retained. There are a few screens to get to if you want to reset the map the vacuum previously stored, so I did not accidently erase it; the unit and/or app did not retain it. It does not need to run many times to develop the map, but everytime it needs to re-learn (re-map) the same areas, you cannot take advantage of Advanced Mode, to set up Virtual Boundaries and Custom Cleaning. It could waste a lot of time waiting for the unit to re-map the area, only to have to define Virtual Boundaries. Again, the manual has no description of what the functions mean, so if you want to unlock the full potential of the product, you will need to go through a trial and error process on the app, determining what functions work for what situations. There really needs to be a setting to activate / deactivate the auto-empty function (if there is a way, it isn’t in the manual and it isn’t well-defined in the app). The auto-empty function is loud, and is exceptionally annoying when I’m on a work / personal phone call, or when my kids are participating in their real-time virtual classroom. The design Team for the OZMO T8 appears to have done a great job with the functions the unit uses, on the technology, and on the mechanics of operation. The manual needs a lot of work, but apart from that, there does not seem to be anything that cannot be corrected by a good app update and a major update to the firmware.

At this price not reliable
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Initially it works great but then the deebot starting having issues with the wheel malfunction. I googled about the error and it seems lots of other folks had faced the similar error. Ecovacs provided 1 year limited warranty. Since wheel malfunction is most common problem with the deebot I think they should fix anyway or increase the warranty to 3 years otherwise it’s not worthy if the system stop working within 2 years

Pet hair concerns = DO NOT BUY
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you have pet hair, DO NOT BUY. The dust bin will not empty out pet hair very well, if at all. I spent 30 mins trying to make it empty the hair by slowly removing small amounts and it still couldn’t empty it. It will also blow light weight particles away and may totally miss them by the end. The mopping leaves a lot to be desired. Some times I could barely tell it had moped the area because even on high flow there was just no water left behind at times. It will miss a lot of close to wall and cabinet areas due to certain settings that have to be changed. With that said, I like the mapping of the app even if it is a little buggy setting up rooms and it is quieter on hard wood floors than our other bot. I will be returning this today because it just could not do what we needed.

Wife didn't want one but she's glad I bought it!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We couldn't be happier! Wife didn't want one but I bought it anyway for a Christmas present and told her to at least give it a chance. Now she loves it! I did have a concern it would not be able to transition to carpet from tile but wow! When the carpet is encountered it revs up the motor and goes right on. It wiggles into every nook and cranny everywhere. The entire family is smiling over this product! I bought it because Best Buy featured it right after you come in the door and right in front of the registers. Great job Best Buy! I figured if you got an exclusive you were impressed. The only issue we have had which frankly I would say is unavoidable is game cables laying on the floor. It will get into them and pull on things. Get cables off the floor and as long as there is no string or something similar you will be thrilled with this vacuum!

Impressive
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great Vacuum, suction is more than sufficient. A very effective strategy for cleaning and never misses spots, however, it can get caught in large objects like towels or loose items. The app can be frustrating to set up, however, once set up is very effective. Has trouble emptying dust bin without the weight of the mopping attachment, when mopping attachment is installed it won't go over any carpet which is understandable yet frustrating. Overall great machine - worth the price.

Nice vacuum, great price, when on sale.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Very nice robot compared to my 950. However it does get confused sometimes finding its way back to base, mainly when I’m doing manual functions. But usually if I pause it and send it back to base it then has no problem. Never had that issue on the 950. The auto dust bin is nice, but you need to check it periodically that it is completely emptying your bin. The other day I checked it. It was overall empty but one side was stopped up, and I cut my jobs way down as to not over fill it. And of course without the object avoidance I do get better coverage with my 950, but nothing that’s caused an issue yet. An option to send it back to your dust bin without ending the job would be nice. Warning Dust Bin is loud. Not something you probably want running while sleeping.

One of the best!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We have bought a few robot vacuums and by far ECOVAC is the best one we've had. So much so we bought another one! We tried the more economic iRobot and did not like it at all. We've had 2 Saumsung's which worked well until they didn't. The Samsun runs into furniture and backs up onto legs and scratches everything even with the "mapping" feature. This ECOVAC was easy to set up and put together. The app was very easy as well. You are able to set bounderies for stairs/rooms right from the app rather than putting down some sticky film or adding boundary blocks. The mopping feature is good though not as thorough as I would hand mop but I get that this function is for those in between deep cleans. I like the fact that it has different noise options and suction options so if you have pets it will do a deeper clean. The self cleaning tool is great as well. I have a large home on 3 floors so I like that I am able to map other floors/rooms and it will learn that space as well.
