Great screen, love the touch screen.

Burns you: Gets too HOT
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Very poor for the price. Retuned one and was told it was not supposed to overheat. It gets so hot it burns you. Highly do NOT recommend this to anyone. Hoping Best Buy will replace it with something else. HP denied that it over heats but asks about it over heating in their product survey.

Not good
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had this laptop for less than two months and already is not working. It doesn't turn on unless connected to a power source. It will turn off on you without warning. Taking back to the store. Hopefully they can credit my account.

Cannot connect to internet
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bluetooth available, but WiFi will not find any connections. This is most likely due to drivers needing an update from what HP says. I manage to get to another computer to download updates, install on the new laptop only to find out, that the Bluetooth device is no longer there, network device is still not there, and I still can't get internet on the device to troubleshoot it with the programs that need internet to do so with. HP keeps telling you to connect to the internet to diagnose the problem... How am I supposed to do that when the device cannot be found and the drivers I was told to install didn't do anything? It will get returned as soon as the doors open.

Stay Away
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I just returned my 3rd HP Envy X360. One of them had a hard drive issue and the other 2 the touchscreen kept going out and sometimes the screen would turn blue. I ended up purchasing a Lenovo Yoga and couldn't be happier. I will never purchase an HP product again.

Great PC
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this laptop for use in college. So far, I have only a few complaints. Pros Keyboard : The keyboard is acceptable for me. It's not mushy, but it's also not mechanical. The backlit keys are not configurable (to my knowlege), and they can be a little too bright at night. This does include a numberpad. Trackpad : It's not as good as a MacBook's, but nobody else makes them as nice. The only thing that bugs me is that when you start scrolling and lift one finger to move the mouse, it still thinks I want to scroll. Display : The 1080P panel is not the brightest, so don't expect much outside use. The display is crisp. Battery: Long usage for an AMD CPU Cons Heating : While it doesn't burn your lap, it runs a little warm. The fan is always running, but its an AMD chip so it's expected. You can configure the device to only use passive cooling, but the cpu would start to throttle.

A few minor flaws, but excellent otherwise
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Let me begin this review by stating, in no uncertain terms, that this is a fantastically powerful, swift, and efficient laptop—one that I would recommend to anyone looking for a robust and capable portable machine. The design is clean and modern, it's remarkably light for its size, and I would say the battery life is decent. All in all, it's a real pleasure to use—but I ultimately ended up returning it due to a couple of issues that I will explain below. I had bought this laptop to replace my previous one, which had a very noisy fan. Loud computer fans drive me up the wall, so I was really hoping this one would be different. Unfortunately, it wasn't—and that's probably my fault, because I may well be expecting too much from a laptop. The timing of the noise, however, was unpredictable. Sometimes I would watch Netflix and the fan wouldn't make a peep, but then I'd switch over to Google Docs and it would roar like no tomorrow. I'd open up Speccy to assess the situation, and sure enough, the CPU would be running well over 85° C—sometimes over 90°!—in these instances. In a similarly strange vein, the touchscreen would occasionally stop working. I tried just about everything online (Device Manager was obviously my first go-to) and even went through Best Buy's live chat, and got nowhere with that. Ultimately, the only way I could figure out to fix it—and even then, this only worked some of the time—was to hibernate the laptop and then wake it back up. So, it's a wonderful laptop, but I have to give it four stars for the reasons above. From this point forward, I will stick with desktops—which are generally far more powerful and much quieter than laptops—for my home solution.

Runs fast, smooth and has killer looks.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I wanna start out by saying that I think this is the best looking laptop on the market. First thing I did when I received this laptop is upgrade the RAM to 32GB (2x16GB modules) from Samsung. Second thing I did is upgrade the WiFi card to the 9260 Intel unit. Then I bought a 1TB Samsung Sata III SSD for the secondary storage. It already has a 256GB Samsung NVMe boot drive so I left that alone for now although 970 Pro is faster. With all those upgrades this laptop now runs super smooth, quiet and fast. I've had zero issues with it and I believe the key to unlock the true potential of this thing is adding MORE RAM. 8GB is not nearly enough these days and it just puts more stress on the CPU which slows down and bogs the computer over all. Also, much to my delight, HP has incorporate an app that controls fan speeds! Thank the heavens! It's the HP Command Center for Thermal Profile. There are 4 profiles to choose from and I always have mine on quiet mode which literally is silent. Like, the fans don't run at all and only kick on when it really has to. Doing stuff like streaming Netflix and YouTube or just browsing the web, the quiet setting is perfectly fine as it decreases CPU performance because it's just not needed. When you need the power for transferring large files or editing a video, switch over to the optimization mode for better CPU performance. This mode blasts the fans but that's expected. Now, the keyboard. It's great. No flex, keys have great travel and it's a joy to type on. The back-lighting has 1 setting and it's very bright, just the way I like it. I can't comment on battery life as mine stays plugged in all day and I have traveled with it yet. Also, I'm not a gamer so I don't know how this thing performs in that department. I've heard it does pretty well I suppose if that's your thing you should look into HP's Omen models. Now, the only thing I don't like about this laptop is the display. It's just a standard 1080P display at 220 nits. Brightness is on the weak side in a really well lit room but nothing too terrible. Would have been great to have 300+ nits and a 4k display. I worked on a Spectre that had the 4k display and man did it look great. I hope HP adds that as an option on the next generation model. HP's are great computers but you have to make tweeks, setting adjustment and modifications for them run smooth and fast. Perform all the Windows and HP updates and add more RAM and you'll be very happy with this awesome laptop.

Great Dollar to Performance
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this laptop a few months ago by trading in 2 older MacBook Pros. I am using it primarily for schoolwork and occasionally as a portable gaming PC. The Windows Ink feature is incredibly useful for taking notes in class, and I have had no issues with the touch screen or using the Bamboo Ink pen. Windows Hello facial recognitions works snappy, though I did have to teach it to recognizing with and without my glasses or headphones on. I upgraded the memory and storage on it myself which was easy to do, and if I ever need a replacement battery, that would also be an easy self repair. As far as gaming goes, I haven't used it extensively for that (I have a dedicated gaming tower, and this isn't a gaming laptop) but if I play on medium-low settings I can get a consistently bearable frame rate in GTAV. Great all-round laptop for a good price. Can definitely recommend a look!

HP is amazing!

Very happy with this laptop!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This laptop is fantastic. The AMD Ryzen 7/Vega 10 setup has been fast and reliable for me so far. The bamboo ink pen works well if you need a stylus. Make sure you adjust the settings like which hand you write with and whether or not you want it to ignore touch inputs while using the pen. I really like that the keyboard has a number pad but for some it could be a negative, since it places the keyboard/trackpad slightly off center. I love having it though so it was a big plus for me. I do wish there were more options for the LED back-light on the keyboard besides ON/OFF and the screen could be slightly brighter. I have found adjusting the display settings in the AMD Radeon folder helped though. I set the color temp slightly cooler and set the screen to optimize brightness. I also really like the overall look of the laptop and the upward firing speakers, which get up to a decent volume.

New GPU Drivers Baby and some quirks
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First off I had the 15" version of the Envy and while it was mostly usable, performance was poor and stability was a joke. If it didn't crash once a day it was a miracle. So it was handed off to a niece. I was humming along happily with the Samsung Chromebook pro but always felt like I was missing out on playing my steam video games. Then I heard AMD would finally release the mobile GPU drivers themselves. I waited. The minute they were released I ran down to the local Best Buy and got this open box for $650. Took forever to load all the windows updates first. Wi-Fi card stability was horrible. Often disconnecting for no reason and requiring a reboot to enable. Finally, made it through the Windows updates then started the HP updates and bloatware removal. Everything took 3 hours. At this time Wi-Fi was still unstable, battery run time poor, and GPU performance was horrible. Stability was still a joke. I then installed the new AMD provided GPU drivers and performance was great and system stable. Battery life is pretty good although not i5-8250 levels still. And then bang Wi-Fi cuts out for no reason. So instead of rebooting I just enabled and disabled the driver and the thing decided to never give me trouble again. I still have 10 days to return but if it remains stable I'm keeping it. I'm almost certain the Wi-Fi issues are software conflict somewhere. It hasn't happened since.
