    Great Printer

This is a great printer. I'm using it in a single office setting and it is just what I needed. Setup takes longer than most printers but that is due to the ink bottles and not just snapping cartridges in. It is easy to do but just takes some time to set everything up. Filling up the ink tanks works smoothly and is a very nice solution to the annoying cartridge problem. The ink bottles that come with the printer are enough to top off the color ink tanks after the printer has primed the print heads. The black did not quite fill the tank back up but did come close. And the amount the tank holds is way more than cartridges so I'm guessing they will last for a long time. The printing is crisp and clean. It's not the fastest printer I've had but it is more than quick enough for whatever you'd be using it for. The scanner is nicely laid out and very easy to use. Having the flatbed or ADF is very nice and convenient. The ADF system also locks itself into a flat surface on the top of the printer if you close it which is very nice if you want to set things on the printer. I don't think it has a multipurpose tray so if you change paper sizes a lot it is not convenient. The paper tray holds plenty that you won't be refilling it often. The software from Epson is also very intuitive and easy to navigate. It's scanning software is easy to setup and saves quickly. Overall I would highly recommend this printer. It's well designed, made and performs perfectly.

The Epson EcoTank ET 3850 All in One printer arrived securely packaged in a nice box with everything needed to get set up. There is a warning in the instruction booklet that says not to touch the ink tubes and their translucent cover. I didn’t see this warning when removing the blue tape from the various areas on the printer, but fortunately didn’t remove the translucent cover. But I did touch the ink tubes, hopefully that won’t cause any damage over time. There is a power plug on the back of the unit that sticks out an extra inch, it would have been nice for this to have been Setup was really easy. The instructions show a three prong plug, but it’s a 2 prong plug. After you plug the printer in you download the app to get started. Upon setup the app acts like a chat window with a smart AI, “Epson Smart Panel” that guides you and chats with you. The app/phone will find the printer after you turn it on. Once found, you fill the ink tanks. The app has you agree to a couple simple rules, then sends info to the printer which takes approx. 20 seconds. After that the next steps are all displayed on the app, which are filling the ink tanks. To fill the tanks you need to open the scanner unit with both hands until it locks in place, which actually requires one hand on the base and one on the lid, to pull it into place. Fill black in first. Filling is really easy. You just remove the cap on the ink bottle. Line it up with the filling port and flip it over to fill. The ink bottle stands in place while the ink reservoir is filled. You do not need to push or squeeze at all, and it doesn’t seem like there is any risk of spillage at all either. The ink stops flowing from the bottle automatically once the reservoir is filled. Filling the black ink took approximately 75 seconds and I still have a small amount of black ink left in the bottle for future use. After filling the black ink, continue with the rest of the colors, cyan, magenta and yellow. Once all the ink is filled you close the ink lid, and the scanner unit. The app has you verify twice that all tanks are filled before proceeding with the ink initialization. The app says that ink initialization takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. I noticed after initialization that all the ink tanks were now a little lower, probably from the ink going into the tubes.. I wonder if I can fill the rest of the ink for the bottles into the tanks now, so that I don’t have to store the bottles. .. No you cannot, when I went to fill the tanks a message appeared on the screen saying not to fill them more than ⅔ full. While the ink initializes, the app has you connect the printer to wifi. Once the ink is initialized, you are finished with the app and follow the instructions shown on the printer screen for the remainder of the set up. The screen instructs you to perform a print head nozzle check and has you load paper into the paper tray. Then you check the print head alignment, using the on screen instructions. There are 4 printer alignment tests, which require you to review printouts and select the best images. Once the alignment tests were completed, I then checked for and installed a firmware update. Overall I’m extremely pleased with this printer. It’s easy to connect to, does a great job on the print quality and it prints quickly. Best of all, I won’t have to replace the ink every couple months like I’ve had to do with previous printers. This new Epson EcoTank is good for the environment and good for my wallet. I highly recommend this printer to anyone who wants a high quality printer that won’t cost an arm and a leg to maintain.

This printer was easy to get set up and works very well. I chose this one because it uses bottles of ink instead of cartridges. We've done quite a bit of printing and none of the ink has gone down. Very convenient that the ink shows on the front but it does not show the ink colors like in the picture. That's not really an issue though.

A reliable, set-and-forget office printer makes an office that much more efficient. Epson's EcoTank ET-3850 is exactly what your workspace needs. The new, high capacity ink tank solution and feature-filled machine makes a perfect addition to your home office. The first thing I noticed when unboxing this printer was the individually-wrapped ink tanks. Setup with these things was pretty easy with the included instructions, and there is an app-based manual if you are so inclined. It's an odd experience when you're used to the usual ink cartridges, but I can see how this type of ink tank would cut down on your ink replacement over time. I can really get used to this. The tray holds around half a ream of paper, so coupled with the long-lasting ink, you're really getting a printer that's built to do its job and not cause you any extra problems. Printing, scanning, and copying all worked quickly for an ink-based printer, with some very good quality print jobs. And aside from some ink bottles that you can store for later use, there's nothing obtrusive about the size and shape of this machine. It has a nice, color screen that's easy to read and overall just really does its job well. Best of all, not only does it save you money with its cost-effective ink process, it also cuts down on cartridge waste that can reduce the burden this industry puts in our landfills. The EcoTank ET-3850 is the printer your office needs. With user-friendly features, innovative ink solutions, and an economic and eco-friendly footprint, it's an excellent machine for any home office. Easy to recommend. Full disclosure, I received this product for my honest, unbiased review.

Small Footprint, Easy to Fill Ink

The 3850 Eco Tank has a small form factor but still offers all the features of a large printer suite. I enjoyed how they did the setup process. I downloaded the Epson Smart Panel app and followed the instructions on the app. It’s set up like a txt conversation which is kind of different and familiar for most. Filling the eco tank was an easier process than I anticipated. Each bottle appears to be keyed for the appropriate color so you don’t accidently fill the wrong reservoir. You simply access the filling ports, flip up the cover, and place the bottle on the fill port and it begins filling until its empty or the eco tank is full. Once you’ve filled Magenta, Cyan, Yellow, and Black, and finish the setup process, the printer is ready to use. It didn’t take long to get to printing. Printing from my phone is really easy, I use an iPhone so the phone picked the printer up quickly on the network. I like that it prints front to back to save paper. It does front to back printing quickly too so you’re not waiting a long time to print documents. The only thing I wish it did was front and back printing from the document feeder. The way I got around this was scanning documents to my computer using the Epson Smartscan app on my PC and which gives you the option to upload the scan to a cloud service, send in email, save on your PC or print. So I was able to print and select front and back. The extra step is a little frustrating but I’m glad the capability is there and the work around isn’t too hard to get around. You can also download apps for the PC which gives you options such as saving scans, printing from the cloud, you can snip parts of a photo to print, as well as making edits such as turning and cropping as needed. I would say my overall favorite thing about this printer is how it can print, scan, document feed, do two sided printing in such a small footprint and do it all with their eco tank system. This replaced my other multipurpose printer and left me with a lot more desktop space than what I had before. I’m really excited to see how much more printing I get out of the eco tank as well. I’ve not had one before and it was very easy to setup and use.

So far it's working very well. Easy setup, nice prints. The only issue I have is it seems to disconnect from wifi/phone etc. every single time it goes to sleep. I'm not sure how it would wake up and print if I was off-site. I haven't actually spent time trying to figure this out though. If I do, I'll update the review.

Great printer. Set up was a little tough as it was not clear on next step once the unit locked, but managed after a couple of trials. Appears the ink will last a long time and this thing is a printing beast. Great looks and size. Also is fairly quiet in operation compared to our last unit. We have a lot of confidence in the Epson printers. Happy with purchase.

I am a little on whether or not to buy this printer. This printer is saving money on ink alone, the printing speed is not bad, it is a little noisy when printing though but overall I can say this is a great buy. I totally will recommend it to everybody.

    Functional software, good machine

This printer was purchased to replace my older Epson Ecotank that failed after about four years and 1250 pages printed. Printer experts say you can't expect more than two years out of a printer and we got 4 years with minimal trouble. You must run nozzle checks frequently on these printers to make sure the print head doesn't dry up on one of the colors. Setup is easy with the Epson software. Remote print works as it should and print drivers work perfectly with no hangups once they are set up. There is good clean functional software offered for my wife's Apple, my Windows machines, Androids, and iPhone. This printer in particular seems to print very fast. Be careful not to get any ink on the printer when filling the tanks because it's white and it stains easy. I checked out the Canon and HP options for tank printers and they honestly seemed more flimsy and had more protruding small plastic components that seem like they would snap off if you touched them wrong. The internal paper tray on this model is a big selling point for me. I love it. Color of photo prints is a little bit subdued but that is not what this printer is designed for. Print your heart out! The ink is cheap and paper is cheap!

Easiest SETUP ever but print time is SLOW

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Epson ET 3850 is the simplest printer set up EVER. Immediatley connects to wifi- setup is SUPER EASY; however.... if you want to print anything in high quality- it takes a full 6 minutes and 30 seconds PER PAGE. I printed out a 3 page report (just words- black and white) that i could not see without setting ink to high quality - and once it began to print- it took 19.5 minutes on Plain paper for - 3 pages. Pictures are 8 min each and must be in high quality to see. I dont see how anyone could use this for business. This was a gift, so ill keep it but come on with the print time Epson! This is perfect for people who dont print much and when they do... have ALOT of patience and dont mind waiting.... but want/need the easiest set up ever on a printer-without the need for assistance. It really is that simple. I havent had one paper jam or any issue other than print time- and have printed about 2k pages; 50 pics; and several thick pages for projects..

    Do your research on alternatives

For the price there are better alternatives out there. I bought this printer because my mom had the same one and she really enjoyed using it. However I was hoping it would do relatively well with scanning (ADF) based on the other reviews. It did not. Every other page was making it halfway through the scanner and then jamming. Not to mention how slow it was going through the scanner. The build quality is pretty cheap compared to the replacement i bought. An HP Smart Tank 7301. And the noise level was atrocious, I get it its a printer. But again at this price point there are better options. Something that it absolutely gets right, is the filling mechanism for the ink itself. Absolutely no mess, no touching the ink, and a decent size tank. I did not purchase any ink so I can not speak on the price.

The printer works as advertised. However, the set up process is long and cumbersome. What happen to plug and play? This connects to wifi, and then calibrates, and then downloads something, and then calibrates again. It was a solid 30 minutes until I could actually print something.

Works? But I am no expert on printer quality.

I am no expert on printers, but seeing as my parent's previous HP printer lasted for around 10 years (only stopped working due to HP planned obsolescence by refusing to post available Windows 10 drivers to their website), I wanted another one with a long lifespan. After about a month my parents have had no complaints, so if you are simply looking for a review that says "follow the instructions, and you have a working printer/scanner" then this is the case for me. 4 stars instead of 5 due to the following: 1. The year is 2022, there is no call for only putting a 2.4 Ghz antenna inside the printer instead of a dual band 2.4/5 Ghz 2. They should put in bold letters at the top of the product description "DOES NOT COME WITH USB Type B CABLE". Hopefully you should have one laying around somewhere, but if not, you will need to buy one.

Incredible printer. My main use is for printing digital download paper collections for scrapbooking and card making and the quality of the print is very impressive. I love that the ink lasts so long. I don’t know if the correct word is ‘saturation’ but the color saturation is very deep and true to the digital images online. Only downside was setting it up. I had to call in a neighbor to help me. It took a couple of hours but I was behind on updates on my desktop so we had to wait for all those to finish - so partially my fault. Adding the ink is super easy so that was great. Once it was all set up it’s very simple to use.
