Nice printer! Works great for my printed patterns. Excited to give the larger 13x19 a try. The software only thing gave a little trouble. Im also eager to how the ink last compared to cartridges.

    Great Photo Printer!

I needed a new photo printer and have used Epson and Canon photo printers in the past. After researching and talking to some people I know that had purchased the Epson Photo ET8550, I purchased one myself. I've had the printer for 3 months now and am very happy with this printer. The photos it produces are gorgeous and the use of ink is stingy! From 8" x 11" prints to the 13" x 19" prints all are simply photo lab equivalent. I have had zero problems with this printer since owning and printing many, many photos. I can't say enough about this printer. If you are looking for a great photo printer, you will love this one. I am so happy that I purchased this printer ... it is Great!!!

We bought this printer to handle more advanced and demanding large format printing and photo needs. Little did we know we were also getting a workhorse that could power even mundane tasks. My family found ourselves in a bind not having ordered holiday cards and decided to try printing our own. Not only did this printer help us power though our card list (75+ double sided color holiday cards) but the printing quality never showed streaks, roller lines or evidence of overuse.

While it is too early to review the printer for performance (we have only had it a couple of weeks and have put it through all its capabilities yet) we can report that it does well at ordinary printing for office and personal correspondence. It does excellent scanning of photos, graphics and documents to PDF, JPEG, Tiff. Such copying as we need to do also works well. we have yet to do photo and art printing but will be tryin is out this coming week. Features of the machine like the output tray pushing out while printing after being hidden for neat appearance is cool. thick paper through the back feed works fine. We like the ink tanks instead of cartridges and the pricing on the ink as well.

Excellent photo prints. The ink is affordable. The printer is easy to use and with this printer, 13"x9" prints are an option.

I like it so far. Quality of prints are good. Setup was pretty straightforward. I would like it if they had better documentation. It’s not clear how to use 13x19 size photo paper as the paper carousel doesn’t look like it adapts to that size. But, I haven’t tried it yet.

Premium quality photo printer with low running cos

The Epson EcoTank Photo ET-8550 is a solid all-in-one photo printer that delivers high quality wide-format prints. It's 6-color ink system gets you vivid quality, and offers extremely low running costs thanks compared to other photo printers. It's best suited for photographers, artists, and serious hobbyists who need near-professional-quality prints at home. I would not recommend that this printer be used for documents. It's scanner capabilities are sufficient

First, the printer was simple to set up and get networked. Second, it's a relatively fast printer, even for photographs. Third, the color prints done on photo paper look very good. Lastly, the Ecotank technology will save money, as the inks come in 70 ml bottles that are used to fill the six tanks on printer and they are far less costly than typical ink jet cartridges with less printing capacity. This is an expensive printer and one should look for discounts. Best Buy had a very good sale price along with an Epson sponsored $75 discount for trading in my old failed printer.

If you use it correctly, this produces pretty amazing photos. Use the correct paper, probably Epson. I initially tried it with old photo paper and was on the cusp of returning it. The ink and paper were designed to work together. Epson really ought to include a couple sheets with the product so you see the results. I really like the way the ink tanks are filled. This is a huge upgrade from the inkjet cartridges, and looks like it simply will work better and much cheaper overall. The low cost of the cartridge ink jet printers is recouped when you buy more cartridges. I'm impressed with the way the ink bottles have "keys" so you can't get the wrong color in the wrong tank...that's really crucial. So far, love it. Epson's software could be more modernized.

I got this printer because it CAN print on thick cardstock, however doing the rear feed slot in the back is a bit of a nuisance. You have to partially disassemble the printer and keep trying to print from the back until it actually prints. I bought the printer to print up mock-up packaging for new products before spending money on "real" packaging. The printer prints nicely on Canon brand glossy photo paper, but leaves pizza wheel track marks on all other brands glossy photo paper that I have tried, including Epson brand photo paper. Matte photo paper doesn't have a gloss for the spikes to leave holes in so any non-glossy paper should be fine. I have tried 3 different brands of compatible inks and all worked good enough for me so you can save money on cheap ink. Some of the prints on photo paper will have extra marks on the paper where some of the excess ink rubs onto something and then onto the paper in the wrong spots, but those stray marks don't happen all the time. The stray marks just mean a good 13x19 photo paper is ruined and you need to print again. I also recommend waiting between poster prints to let the excess ink dry so it doesn't rub off onto the next paper and create stray marks. I haven't tried printing on any disks yet. To make sure the ink doesn't dry in the nozzles, you will need to find a 5 color Cyan Magenta Yellow K(black) Grey color print purge picture and print that as "regular" and a 1 color K(black) and print as photo paper glossy, to make sure all the nozzles are blasted clean, recommended about 1 time per week.
