Trouble starting and erroneous low ink messages

The first week that I used the printer, it printed first time, every time with no issues. Now, after starting the printer, I have to restart it before it will connect to my wireless. Then I have to restart it again for it to actually print -- if I don't restart it the second time, it just sits there making noise, but never actually starts printing. After the first week, using the ink cartridges that came with the printer, the printer said that I was out of black ink (I did not print a full cartirdige worth, but figured Epson had cheaped out on the included ones and not provided as much ink as they normally do. I ordered a new cartridge directly from epson and printed one document on it. I now get the low ink message again. I'm very disappointed -- I thought I had finally found a printer that is capable of actually printing a document, but apparently Epson hasn't managed that feat with this machine.

A great replacement for my old all-in-one!

I purchased an Epson XP-830 to replace an old all-in-one that wore-out. I chose this Epson because it has the same features as my old unit and I'm happy with my choice! I had no difficulty setting-up this unit, but I did need to manually configure the wifi settings because I have two wifi networks and the automatic wifi configuration chose the wrong network. Although I don't print photos on my all-in-one, the printing resolution and speed meet my needs!

    worst printer ever

" this printer(epson xp-830) is the worst i have ever had. i replaced all the ink cartridges 2 weeks after i got the printer - thinking ok the cartridges that came with it probably were not very full. i printed 23 pages & again had to replace both black cartridges. the paper jams in the printer 2-3 times a day - i have to hold the printer up with one hand & try to pull out the jammed paper with the other hand - not easy!! my old top loading printer was easier than this bottom loading - just in case of a jam. so i called epson - got a very rude person but he said he would send me a black cartridge. i also asked him about my paper jamming daily event & the scanner which does not work properly either. he said wait until you see how the new cartridge works. what does the printing with the new cartridges have to do with the paper jamming & the scanner not working - can we go over those problems now - no, call back when you see how the new cartridge is working. well now my new red cartridge is empty after printing only 1 color page & about 20 black & white pages. i think it would be cheaper to toss this printer & buy a canon than to keep buying ink for this epson which comes to about $83 including the tax for the 5 cartridges. also the printer does not work that well - doesn't print the top or bottom lines of the pages & prints very light - especially the color. it does not have much adjustment to remedy these problems. i went in to by a canon, but the salesman recommended this epson. however his was 5 years old, & they must have gone downhill since then. and i still have the paper jamming problem & i can't scan photos. i certainly am not happy with this piece of junk!!! The set up of where the paper is the and tray that comes out when it prints is awkward. It's cheaply made, not thrilled with it but it's good enough. Picture quality is good but you have to specify the paper and select the best printing quality or it's not great.

    Nice Printing

Works great, at you would expect, scanner is very good for documents and good for photos. The document feeder works well, for scanning standard pages. The pop out output document tray and pop up control panel, activate when printing. After printing remove the printouts and push a button on the touch screen and the output document tray retraces and the control panel move down, very nice.

Product features are superb. A bit pricey for my budget for a printer. But i am really looking for something that can be helpful for me doing my arts and crafts. Also the usb port functionality for scanning and printing is a must for me. I have not used it a lot yet. But hopefully ink usage will be ok as well.

    ink hog

I bought this printer about 9 months ago. Today I went out and bought a different printer from another manufacturer because this printer SUCKS! I have never had a printer use as much ink as this one. That is a problem, but the worst part is that when the printer decides the ink level is low it refuses to print or even scan, which requires ZERO ink. After trying every way I could figure to bypass this annoying feature I decided to give up and move on. I will NEVER buy another Epson printer.

    Worst Printer I Ever Bought

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I bought this printer 7 months ago and it vexes me like none other that I have used or bought. It uses ink TOO rapidly. So, if you think you are saving money in the short-term, you most definitely will pay more long-term (but not long enough) in ink costs. (I just replaced the black ink 2 weeks ago and need to do so again. ) Also, I often have to take the same ink cartridge in and out of the unit, sometimes 3 times, in order for the unit to recognize that I have replaced the cartridge. There is too much movement with the paper tray and it is awkward to move the paper tray. It does not always recognize the positioning of the paper. Also, when printing, I expect to be able to take the documents off the printer in the order in which I select. Having to reposition the documents is a waste of time and can be confusing when printing multiple documents. This printer will help you out in a pinch. Bur long-term it will cost you more money, waste time and productivity as well as aggravate you into buying another product. By the way, I am experienced with many printers and am no novice to the operations of such equipment.

Won't print black when color ink out

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I have had this product for six months with occasional home use, and was very satisfied until finding out that when one color ink cartridge is empty, the printer will not print ANY documents. This is true even when the black cartridges are full. It is unacceptable to be forced to buy unneeded color ink to print black and white documents when the black cartridges are still full. This delayed being able to print an important document and forced a trip to FedEx while waiting for ink order to be shipped. I will never buy another Epson product, as I now see reviews that this applies to other Epson printers as well. Very poor business practice and unfair to the consumer not to reveal what I consider to be a defect prior to purchase.

    lousy printer

I replaced an Epson Photo2200 with this printer thinking it would be as good as the one I was replacing. This one is NOT user friendly at all. Print qulity is good but figuring out how to load the paper and then get it to print is a nightmre. When I can get it to print it will print one copy and then send through a plain piece of paper with nothing printee on it. I am very disappointed in this printer. I am looking at Cannon to replace it and just write this one off. I hope I have better luck with Cannon

    Poor print quality in black

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Have had printer for about two months. Poor rating is because the printer prints poorly in in black. Sometimes, a line is printed in what appears to be small, backward italics. If you reprint the same page, the italics occurs in exactly the same spot. I tried for two hours to realign print heads. This changes the location of the italics but does not solve the overall problem. Although it prints color photos well, I prefer those from my old HP Photo printer with 5 color cartridges. The HP photos seem brighter. But others might disagree. The mechanics of the printer (e.g. paper feed) are okay. The menu system is well laid out, although sometimes there is too much information and I got lost. I would probably have given the printer a 4+ if it were not for the poor quality black printing. .
