    Epson Customer Service Runaround

Do not buy an Epson printer. They do not support their product. I got a gigantic run-around. I registered my new printer, Epson XP-830, by creating a new online account under my name. The following day I was unable to login using my password that I had created. I sent two reset requests to my email account, but they never arrived, not in a spam folder, nor anywhere. (#1) I called Technical Support, 562-276-4382. I waited 15 minutes for an agent. They told me I needed to call their Epson Store for a password reset, 800-873-7766. (#2) I waited another 15 minutes. They told me I had selected the wrong option & got Technical Support again. (#3) So I called a third time & got the Store. They told me they only sell products & I would have to call Technical Support. It took me close to an hour to get nowhere. Each time I waited I got a message apologizing for the delay & suggesting I call Wed - Fri when call volumes are lower. It was a Thursday! Here's the bottom line. I bought an Epson. I deserve my punishment! You will be sorry too.

    Disappointed

I bought this based on the reviews after having been a loyal HP printer user. This printer worked fine initially but is now just terrible. The driver software eliminated the draft setting, so it uses ink more quickly. The print quality is terrible. Black blotches sometimes, lines often. I am now going to have to buy a new printer after only a year of use.

    It's an ink HOG...

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I bought this printer about 6 mos ago. It was highly rated in Consumer Reports and I particularly liked the stated ink capacities. However, today is the last straw. My son had to print a paper for school (no colors). When he tried the first time, the printer said the black cartridge was empty. Ok...it was fairly recently replaced so I was surprised but I had another and installed it. Tried printing a second time and the printer now said it was out of photo black. Hmmm. I NEVER print photos. I tried again, specifying black/greyscale only but printing failed and the printer again said I need to replace the photo black cartridge. WOW. After doing some searching online, I called Epson. There's no way to bypass usage of the photo black ink. Epson designed the software such that you cannot bypass usage of PBK ink. That's the last straw. I'm getting about half the stated print pages per cartridge anyway. I'm done w/ Epson.

    Total Fail

This is a definite "Do Not Buy"! The printer is nice and full-featured for the price, and works like a charm out of the box, but then the problems start after it wears down just a bit. I'm just a light user and these things still happened starting four months in. Mainly, giant smudges of ink across the page. When I returned the printer the service guy showed me how this thing basically deposits tons of ink on the sponge the printhead rests at, then that just drags across the pages. I don't know how Epson put this thing on the market. Using the rear tray for specialized printing was hopeless, that did not work even once. Then something got stuck under the ADF scanning feeder and I had to figure out on my own how to get it out so dark lines would not show in my scan (the Epson online help is useless and near non-existent). I makes pointless sounds all the time (like to remind you to get your documents off the printer) so I can't use it when anyone is asleep at home.

    I HATE this printer

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I've had this printer less than 6 months. I very, very, very rarely print. When I do print, it is in draft mode, gray scale. I NEVER print in color. Still, I've had to replace ALL of the cartridges twice. I'd love to find out that I am doing something wrong. Also went through EPSON's step by step in selecting new ink. Their guide instructed me to buy the wrong ink. They said I could return the unopened boxes but not the opened box even though I didn't open the cartridge. They also said I would only get a percentage returned. After a windows update "Can't communicate" message that prevents me from using the printer menu. I need to go through the Epson application to scan. I can't just click the Scan button on the printer. I thought I did my homework before buying this. Wrong. I HATE, HATE, HATE this printer.

Hi Kenneth, we're sorry for the disappointing experience you've encountered with your XP-830 printer. Please give our Advanced Epson Support Team the opportunity to assist you by calling 1-800-241-5794; Hours: Monday – Friday, 6am – 8pm PT; Saturday, 7am – 4pm PT. Also note that Epson printers contain a permanent print head that needs to be charged with all colors to work. Even when you are printing black text only, a small amount of color ink is used to keep the print head charged, preventing air bubbles from entering. Air bubbles can damage the print head. Black smudges

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This is my very first Epson printer, and it will be my last. A very frustrating experience. Wasted loads of expensive photo paper, greeting card paper, plus regular paper and ink due to black smudges. Many long technical support calls resulted in inability to solve problem - although they put me through hours of trying different approaches. If I cleaned the print heads between every photo or greeting card, there would be less smudging, but some would still be there. Also color printing often has two colors per character! I've kept this machine for a while (too long), but it's going in the garbage tomorrow. I'm replacing it with a Brother MFC-J995DW. I have never had a Brother printer before, but I'm hoping the excellent reviews are correct. The great reviews of this Epson printer led be down a harrowing path.

    Buyer Beware - Worst Ever

After six months it kept dropping the connection to wi-fi. Support couldn't help me, claimed I had the wrong password to my network. I didn't, and all my other devices connected. The cheapest, flimsiest design and materials. Door never aligned and shut properly. Couldn't remove ink cartridge because fragile clip was partly under the housing. Had to use screwdriver to release it. Then when new cartridge was installed kept getting error message "doesn't recognize cartridge," even though it was the correct Epson cartridge. Tried over and over re-loading, scrolling thru menu. Rebooting. Finally it had a total meltdown. Froze on the error message and would't even shut off without without being unplugged. My advice if you buy this is to put it directly into the trash and save yourself much time and aggravation.

    Guzzles Ink/Inferior Printing

This printer replaced an HP one that gave out, and it has turned out to be a much bigger ink hog with crummier print quality. We're done the ink-wasting, trouble-shooting steps to get it to print without leaving horizontal white spaces in various lines on the page, but to no avail. Would not buy again.

    Slow as molasses

I've owned 3 of Epson printers in the 800 line. They generally last 2 years before I have problems. This one brand new if I want to print a 2 page document takes about 10 minutes for it to register and print the document. I'm assuming it may be faulty, but unfortunately that is what is happening.

Spend the extra money and buy a better machine

I bought this to replace an 8 year old Canon MFP that had an unrecoverable start error. I thought that it would be a great deal, because of the price. It is a great paperweight. It is slow. The scan software is cumbersome and limited. The ADF is poor, and multi-picks pages. There is no page width adjustment on the ADF. You can feed two paper widths. Eight and a half. And eight and a half. When the ADF does work, it has a light background copy of the reverse side of the paper. Whoever is giving this machine five stars is either a paid poster. Or has little experience with a decent machine. I learned my lesson about going cheap.

    Worked great until firmware update

This printer served my child well during year one of college. Unfortunately, a firmware update has rendered it unable to recognize the ink cartridges. That so hoses the printer that I can apply no other patches or solutions because it cannot connect.

I hate this printer. Drops out of wifi ALL the time, cannot connect when needed. I even bought a hard wire and still have issues connecting. Scanning is a bore, takes AGES just to do one sheet... that's if the software doesnt crash first. Expect crashing softwear and/or spinning wheel of death when scanning, sometimes both. Printing has always been blotchy from the start but now it just leaves massive black blobs everywhere. Has never been good for photos either, which is one of the reasons I picked this model. Terrible print quality. Do not recommend.

    Lousy Printer

this printer is a real pain. Black and white texts come out looking like the text alternates between standard and bolt type. Photos printed off of this printer always have black streaks running thru the image. I have cleaned the print heads, realigned the heads multiple times, with negligible effect. I'm tempted to toss it off of my deck!

If you are looking for a WIRELESS printer this is not the one for you. It goes to sleep so before you print you have to go and wake it up before you attemp to print and even after you do this most the time you click print and nothing happens! This thing is utterly useless! Buy th HP!

    Terrible printer

Owned this for about a year. Riddled with problems. Printer head would keep getting clogged every so often and had to resort to head cleaning. Black ink would get onto the rollers and so the paper would end up with black streaks. Banding would occur frequently and head cleaning would not get rid of it. Really disappointed. Just replaced with a Canon printer. So far so good, but will post a review after a few days of use.

If you are looking to print something in a hurry this is not the printer for you. Hit print and go make yourself a cup of coffee while it takes its time warming up. Like all Epson products if you run out of one ink cartridge the printer becomes useless. What does a black page have to do with yellow ink?
