Great printer but pricey ink cartridges

The Epson WorkForce WF-7840. This is a great home office or small business printer that does the work of printers 2-3 times its cost from the other guys. Setup was a snap. It took me all of 10 minutes to unbox, plug in, insert ink cartridges, set up the Wi-Fi, update the firmware and drivers, and connect it to my home computer. Now onto the unit. The WorkForce WF-7840 itself is huge; it will take up a large space on your desk area and according to the specs, clocks in at 45.4 lbs. Ventilation appears to be on the underside of the unit, so I avoided setting it on the ground and placing it back in a corner. The size is a con, however it still comes with a lot of great features: Two papers trays each with 250-sheet capacity, which can be customized for wide-format papers and printing, as well as a 50-sheet capacity rear tray. The touch screen on the front allowed me to navigate the various menus and options with ease. An auto-feeding tray on the top allows for quick 2-sided copying and scanning. Lastly, the unit printed black and white pages lightning fast (the specs say 25 ISO ppm), and color pages still pretty fast, and with excellent quality. Even the max format 13” x 19” was stunning. I made simple bar menus that looked vivid, professional, and printed the span of the entire page. With that having been said, the inkjet cartridges are a bit pricey. Epson’s website sells the replacements for ~$60, and there doesn’t appear to be any way to get aftermarket replacements or to refill the cartridges. I am going to be eating through ink cartridges printing in the wide format. I could really see this adding up; making the printer the “loss leader” for the inevitable ink cartridges you’ll have to buy. Overall, a great printer with great features, is easy to use, and quickly produces high-quality printed pages, but could end up costing you quite a bit in the long-run with the high-cost ink cartridges

    Amazing Printer--Easiest Installation Process EVER

This was the EASIEST installation ever! I am not the most technologically-inclined user, however I become a master at the things that I need. I have just allowed the CD to set up every aspect of my printer. For the first time ever, I am using wireless connectivity....and intend to set up the APP on my I-phone and I-pad so that I can print remotely. The 13 x 19 printing ability is something that we look forward to using too. This will enhance our client presentations. The quality of standard printing looks remarkable, and I look forward to printing photos based on what I seen already. Very, very pleased!

    Fast and quiet printer

This printer is wonderful! It is very quiet and fast. The exit tray comes out automatically when you print, so it’s not in the way when you’re not using the printer. The first time I used it, I printed 100 sheets of labels with no problems. I make labels for soup mixes and jams that I sell at farmers’ markets, so I want them to look professional. The print was very clear. The rear paper tray is very easy to use. I would definitely recommend this printer.

This printer is really good and I love the fact that it prints extremely fast compared to my last printer! What I love most about it, is probably the most simplest thing, that is a dual side printer! I haven't had this feature in a long time, and it was surely missed. I love the fact that it has colorful and bright pictures as I use this printer to make flyers for a property that I'm listing. I also love how easy it was to connect to my Wi-Fi and started working right away! Another cool feature, is the way that you can connect it to Alexa. I didn't even know that it does this until my daughter was printing stuff using Alexa in are home. I thought that was really cool! I love the bright screen on this model, but I think it could have been a little bit bigger. This printer is definitely something you would want to have for a small office! The only thing I may be concerned about, is how long will the paint cartridges last before I have to buy new ones, but I truly believe that this printer is under priced for everything it does.

This is a great working and fast printer. it's quite large so be sure to have enough space , I had it on top of my mini fridge and it worked great. I loved the vibrant colors of the ink and how nicely it worked. I connected the printer to my phone and had no lag while printing

This epson all in one printer is a beast! My unit did not come with a paper manual so I went in blind. I was able to add this printer onto my network with ease. I was able to add the Wi-Fi direct option as well. The latter is a bit the long way to print but nice to have a work around. The only thing that was not clear was the scan to my email function. With my older unit, different make, I was able to link up my all in one to my personal email on the actual unit. However, to do this with the Epson, I needed to use the Epson app as a hub to connect in this case. This way I was asked to make an account to do this procedure. I do not like this because of yet another account to remember a login and password for. The using of Google to print certain things is neat but I do not see myself using it. The dual paper trays are always welcome! Compared to a small tray that normally holds 50 sheets of plain paper. The speed of printing and connecting are super quick. Also the sleep mode is a little off putting. There's a light ring that strobes rather than just sit idle. I do wish there was a way to turn that strobing off. Other than that this is a great machine for a power user. I have to see how long the ink lasts.

Great printer, easy to set up. Print quality is very good. I needed a printer that could print 11x17 and our old printer’s quality was getting bad so I got this one on sale. should have bought it sooner.

I have used this printer almost everyday since I bought it back in 2022. It has worked great and been quite reliable. It goes through ink a little faster than the others I have had but it's still worth it.

    Great Features - Good Value

The build quality is a bit flimsy, everything works properly, but I am concerned about length of service. I am glad that I purchased an extended warranty from BestBuy. The printing quality is good the speed is acceptable. It does duplex scanning which was important for me. BestBuy had a great discount with free shipping.

    A Real Workhorse!

I use my printer in my classroom and really like the speed and quality of the prints. The one drawback is the "sample" ink. Epson should really bite the cost of the ink for those purchasing new printers and include full size ink cartridges.

    Unnecessarily complicated and unreliable feeding

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The setup instructions were sometimes not very clear so far as making the connections with the computer and the wording of the various choices in the 'menu-trees' of the on-screen 'Settings' function. It was often difficult to find the path to get to a specific setting, especially if I had to make particular changes in order to get a different look for the output. Often the automatic choices proved to be the opposite of what was desired, even though what was listed sounded like what I wanted. For example, when I selected 'Portrait' orientation, the output would actually be printed in a 'Landscape' format. Also when choosing 'Auto Select' for my 'Paper Source' the printer would automatically select the 'Paper Tray' located in the rear of the printer, even though I had set 'Cassette 2' as my default 'Paper Source.' Since this rear 'Paper Tray' is manually fed, and not my choice of sources, it would not have any paper in it, therefore the printer considered this an 'Error' and would stop until the 'Error' was cleared. To make matters worse, paper would repeatedly fail to feed, especially from 'Cassette 2.' The paper is standard Office Depot copy paper [purchased in case-lot quantity--10 reams] and I've never had feeding problems in previous printers. I tried to scan studies that I had done in college [about 10 pages at a time] yet the 'Automatic Document Feeder' would jam after just a few pages. It took more time to clear the jams than it would have taken to scan each page individually. The process to get the printer to do a scan was also unnecessarily long and complicated. In spite of these difficulties and problems, I generally like the product. I like the resolution of both the scanning and printing functions. It's just overly complicated in order to run any particular project.
