Worth the money
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It's a great product. I always wondered about spending the money for this well known brand. I could say it is worth the money. I have had other detectors for about 100 dollars less and thought it was marginal. But, I could say I'm glad to have spend the extra for this radar detector. It's easy to use and customized to what your preference. As long you take a little time to read the manual. Also, the case it comes with is great to store your unit. The only bad thing is the suction cups it comes with. It's terrible. For the amount of money I paid for the detector I wouldn't even thought the suction cups would be a concern. I had to replace the suctions cups within the first month. I was really surprise. The people of Escort shouldn't have over looked that simple detail!

Best Device for Speeders
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I live in NYC and I am constantly speeding on the highways in and out of the city (my usual cruising speed is 80 MPH) and I have to say this device has saved my driving license. There have been MANY times that it has alerted me to highway patrol or a state trooper and since buying the device, I have yet to be stopped for speeding. If you're a speeder, I highly recommend this device. I will say though, remember that this device is $300, so it will have it's amount of false alarms. Better safe than sorry!

Very Effecive
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have owned this radar detector for a few years, best you can get. I owned others and they did not give the warning nearly as quick. I have on highway picked up radar at over two miles. The multiple modes allow you to customize it for your desire. Dims and blacks out for audio only mode. The mute on the cord is great. Very useful, but at times it may pick up too much. I had a problem using in certain vehicles causing the alert to go off every thirty seconds, but it seemed to be only certain vehicles. Dont leave it in the car during extreme heat. I always put it under the seat for protection but the heat caused it to malunction. I like the mount adjusts to right angle. Overall highly recomended. Just dont leave it in hot vehicle.

Excellent radar detector
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this radar detector more than a week ago. During my use, I was very impressed with the X50's performance. I was particularly impressed with its range during ideal sitiuations, i.e. long open roads. I was able to detect LEO's radar from more than a mile away as stated by many other reviews. The X50 also does well when radar signals originate from around curves. The X50 didn't detect around curves more than a mile away but still gave enough warning to adjust speed. It did o.k. with hills also. The only thing I would be careful with is hills that are very deep. Deep hills do not allow signasl to travel as far thus the X50 may not alert fast enough to adjust speed. City driving is the most negative experience you may have with the X50. The X50 excels at highway and interstate driving, however, the X50 is still very supceptible to false alerts when driving around urban scenes. Areas with high levels of shopping oriented buisnesses are the worst areas for the X50 or any detector for that matter, although I would suspect the X50 does better than a lot of other radar detectors. These areas are littered with alarms and automated door openers and cause havic with the X50. The X50 has some neat features that I haven't expierenced with other detectors. The X50 is programmable allowing the user to taylor its behavior and how it displays information. My preference was auto mute off with spec display on. You can also turn off X band which is not widely used by LEO. There are three types of city modes that allow you to run city mode with X band, LoX, and normal. There is also a POP mode that is off by default. I found the POP mode to cause some false alerts and resorted to leaving it off. The X50 utilizes digital signal processing or DSP. This is a way of analzing signals to determines its validity as a legit threat. I would not by any radar detector without this feature. All in All, I was very impressed with the X50's performance. I was able to take it on a road trip Father's Day weekend where it more than paid for itself. Didn't really detect a lot of activity going but coming back I encountered a lot of action. I was able to make it back home without being pulled over, driving at what "I considered" to be decent speeds. My only gripe is the X50's tendency to false alert in urban areas. For this reason I decided to return the X50 and shell out the extra money for the Escort Passport 9500IX. The 9500IX is basically the same radar detector as the X50 but with the addtion of GPS. The 9500IX has the capability of locking out false alerts which is the main reason I decided to return the X50 and buy the 9500IX. Even though I returned the X50, I would still recommend it. It is an excellent radar detector that may be getting a little long in the tooth. There are other radar detectors that have the same performance with the addition of new innovative features like GPS (9500IX). If you don't want to spend a whole lot of money but still want excellent performance, this is the radar detector for you. I wouldn't take anything from it, on the highway that is.

Don't settle for anything less than and Escort
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had Escort units for over 20 years now. (this is my 3rd). Never been without an escort. Products are extremely reliable and well built. Love the sensitivity of the unit and the configurable options (sounds, views, multiple signal viewing, etc). I have had this unit for over 6 years and love it. Don't waste your money on anything other than Escort. I have friends who have purchased other units and find they false all the time. They end up throwing them away and getting an escort. BTW, I have never had a speeding ticket in my life.

Decent buy!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Rarely does this thing false. Works like a charm. 2 saves in just one month. It would be nice if there were spare suction cups included, as they always go bad.

Great radar detector.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I can't even remember how many times this detector has saved me from potential tickets. It is expensive but is leaps and bounds better than a cheap detector I have used in the past. The smart cord is great too, especially at night when you don't want any lights on the detector. The suction cups are not that good but you can mount it using different methods and accessories and replacement parts are readily available directly from Escort. Overall I would say this is a solid choice.

Best radar detector in the mid price range
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had my 8500 x50 for 5 years, and it has saved me from tickets on a long commute dozens of times. Most times I can detect a radar 60 to 90 seconds before I can see it. I've gotten two tickets while using this unit. The first, I was driving in the hill country and when I came over a hill the trooper turned on his radar once he saw me. The device had nothing to detect as his radar wasn't on until it was too late. The second time I was driving I35 between San Antonio and Austin and the trooper got me with a laser. Once again, the x50 had nothing to detect until it was too late. The 9500 has the GPS, but I personally don't need the added features or the added price, so this is the unit for me.

Great Product! Escort is the best!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was suprised at the range of this detector. It picks radar up from over two miles or more away! The laser works really well too, you can actually get an advanced warning before you see the cop! I was suprised at the accuracy of this product, it's unbeatable. The auto sensivity feature is great, virtually eliminating most false alarms. Buy and escort, you won't be disappointed.

Exceptional Choice
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.About 9 months of use now and this thing has been great. It has a mode that will allow you to see multiple radar sources at once. Very accurate and few false alarms. If there is radar present it will alert you. Great range of options in the settings, just make sure you read the manual and keep it handy for future adjustments and fine tuning. A bit on the pricy side, but it will save you if you have a heavy foot or if you are in the wrong place at the right time.

Excelent radar detector
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This radar detector is one of the best buys for the money, you get all the same protection as far as range and number of bands as the more expensive units, at about 200$ cheaper. I have caught my speed many times because this little puppy goes off and i allways seem to slow down in time (knock on wood). The range is incredible especialy on the highway, i would recomend to anyone looking for a radar detector that will last them a whle.

RECOMMENDED BUY
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have just had this radar for less than a week and it has already save me from getting a ticket. It provided me with ample alert time. Only draw back is that it rattles against my wind shield which can get annoying and the suction cups don't hold this heavy radar very well. Still best value for the money.

Amazing Product!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Escort Passport is amazing! I have had it for a year and a half now and it has not failed me since I bought it. It can detect from a great distance and even over hills and around corners. It has many customizable settings so you can set it up however you like. It is easy to use and it has probably been one of the best investments I have made in a long time!

Best detectror i've had so far
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have owned a few different radar detectors in the past 10 years or so. This one works the best. It provides a great coverage and gives you a huge warning on speed traps that are coming up, or cops that may be waiting around the next corner or coming up from behind. My detector has gone off about 30 seconds before I saw the cop waiting on the side of the road. Since my detector went off I was able to slow way down and I got to watch the sucker without the detector get pulled over. The only issue with this detector is the "Laser" setting. There is no warning what so ever. Basically, if you see and hear your "laser" signal going off... you're getting pulled over. #if you're speeding of course# I would love if Escort was able to fix that, because that was the one and only ticket I have got in the last 2 years of having this detector. Overall, I am satisfied.

Great detector
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got the 8500 as could not justify the 9500 with GPS capability as the only real difference. Plus the 8500 and Valentine 1 have been neck and neck for years as TOP PERFORMER with Escort edging it out this past year or so with long distance sensitivity while Valentine 1 had slightly less false hits...I will take the longer detection range on hwy any day. The Escort also has a nifty windshield mount setup that allows you to adjust angle internally rather than having to bend your suction mount. The programming functions are great so I could totally block any Xband signals but turn on safety and lidar. Also purchased the hardwire kit and then went to Autozone and got a mini fuze add a circuit....$8 that allows me to plug it into my fuse panel rather than tapping into a wire in the vehicle harness. This prevents there being any warranty issues and also gives a much cleaner fit and finish on a switched fuse. I used the homelink fuse spot (BMW) with a 5amp fuse...ran wires up through A-pillar and headliner....then put the remote MUTE button and display down on left side of ashtray. Very clean install and no worries on having to cut wires. Great buy!

good radar detector, but...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.i've been using an X50 for a few weeks now. mostly been disappointed, but i just figured out why. everything i've read has said to turn off the X-band due to the high number of false alarms from automatic doors. i complied, but found that i was passing speed traps without a single beep here in Pennsylvania. i've been playing it safe, watching my speed while i learn the ins and out of my Escort, thankfully. i recently decided to try an experiment, and turned the X-band back on. i've had to put up with the frequent false alarms, but learned an important fact. everything i read on the matter stated that most police do not use X-band any more. that just is NOT true here in PA. it seems that PA State Troopers do still use the band, and this is not the only state. in general, i think that the 8500 X50 is a good radar detector. the tone is loud enough to be heard over moderate music volume (and it has a headphone jack). it has a high level of customization available in the performance. and it can be easily read / understood by novice users, or set up to give experienced users additional information. my advice is this: 1. make sure that ALL bands are turned on. the default for the X50 has at least POP turned off. 2. take a couple of weeks to learn / test your new detector. learn it's range for different bands especially. 3. if you have doubts about it working properly, exchange it. this is a sensitive piece of electronics, and there are probably going to be bad units. don't just blast it in a review because it didn't work for you. try a new one

Absolutely Amazing Radar Detector
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. One of the best radar detectors on the market. Has saved me on numerous occasions from up to a mile away. Best Detector ever
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is simply the best detector period. I have owned many many detectors and none can even compare to this one. I have owned mine for about 2 years now, and have came back to buy another one for my other vehicle...just because I have gotten too lazy to move it from vehicle to vehicle...its not hard to do, but I forget to move it..LOL

Best interier mounted radar detector available
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So far out of all the reviews, anything negative said about this product sounds like ignorant user error. First off this is a RADAR detector, not a cop car detector. If they do not have their radar gun turned on, you will not get a warning, I don't know why this is hard for some people to understand. Also, if you read the manual, POP mode detection is turned off out of the box, so you will need to turn this on. X band will be set to on out of the box, I would recomend turning this off as it is not used anymore as long as you live in a city with running water. K band is still being used though not as common, you may want to research how common this may be in your area, because K band is used in many other devices that may cause some false alarms. If K is not used in your area I would recomend turning it off. I choose to deal with the rare false alarm to protect myself from the few K band radar guns that are used in my area. Anyone who has had the hassle of getting a ticket should be able to see the value in spending the money and getting a quality radar detector. If not waste your money on a cheap, cobra ticket detector with about 50 feet of range.

Must say this is the BEST RADAR EVER
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have owned my Passport-Escort for about a year and a half and I must say I have yet to get pulled over for speeding since. Even though it is somewhat pricey, I would much rather pay for this one radar instead of tons of speeding tickets. It picks up distance great! Especially on the highway setting. I recommend that anyone who has a lead foot buy this radar detector.
