Front camera has poor sealant and comes off easily with heavy wind. I do not recommend anyone to purchase these cameras for home security.

Serious contender!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.eufy - Security Spotlight Cam Solar 2K Solo Cam S40 review I will start out by saying that I have owned or tried pretty much all of the major companies’ security cameras on the market (except for Eufy). For the last couple years, I have been using one of the big ones and I have been very happy with it. But recently they released a new line of sub-par cameras and their new app has turned horrible so I was looking for something new. I jumped at the chance to give this camera a try since I have never used and Eufy products before, but I have heard good things about them. Right out of the box I found it to be a nice hefty camera that seems very solidly built. I have no doubt that this will be able to handle the elements. I live in southern Wisconsin so I will definitely be able to see how it works in the extremes of all seasons. Setting it up was fairly easy, although I did have a little trouble getting it connected to my router. These only work on 2.4Ghz bands and my router is dual band. So by default it tries to connect to the 5Ghz network which wasn’t working. I ended up setting up a guest network and that one was strictly 2.4Ghz to use for this camera. After getting that figured out, the camera was set up and ready to go in a matter of minutes. Mounting it was fairly easy. It comes with a bracket that you screw into the wall with the included 3 screws and then you put the camera on the threaded end and you are able to position it how you need to. The mount is plastic, so im hoping that will hold up, time will tell. I was also a little concerned that there was no kind of locking screw or anything to keep the camera on the mount. Someone could easily come and unscrew the camera from the mount. But you would get them on video doing that. Thankfully I am mounting mine high enough that someone would need a ladder in order to do that. They recommend charging the battery fully before mounting which I did. Mine will be in direct sunlight for most of the daytime. After a few days use, the battery on my camera was still fully charged. We have probably 10-20 events a day that it records, so hopefully I will never have to take it down to charge it. Going into the app I found it a pleasure to use after coming from that other companies’ app that I had been using. Its not perfect, but its very good. I walked in my yard to test out the notifications. It easily picked me up when I came into view and it took about 6 seconds for the notification to show up on my phone. I was able to see a still image in my notification window showing me what the camera saw. By default that option was turned off, so I had to turn it on. We have a bunch of plants in our backyard that were setting off false notifications when the wind blew, but after tweaking the sensitivity settings in the app a little bit I was able to get it dialed in perfectly. I found the video to be very clear and I was easily able to pick out fine details during the day. I was also anxious to see what the night would bring. I am happy to report that the light on the camera easily lit up my whole backyard (its roughly 30’ x 50’) the full color night vision was amazing! Something that I had been lacking with my previous system that just had black and white. I was able to see a lot more details (with the spotlight on) and it was much clearer than my other system. Obviously at night it’s a lot more grainy, but its by far the best I have seen in a camera to date. I found the notifications also worked very well at night. It was able to pick me up when I walked in the frame just as well as during the day. Using the color night vision without the spotlight it pretty useless though, its so dark you can’t see anything. It would be nice to have the black and white on all the time and then the color kicks in when the motion is detected and the light comes on. Then you would always be able to see what is going on without having to switch back and forth between black and white and color. Overall, I have been very impressed with this camera. Not to mention you get all of this with no monthly subscription fee!! Although there are some subscription and monitoring available if you choose. I was so impressed that I actually ordered their doorbell camera as well as their pan/tilt floodlight camera as well. I cant wait to get them installed and try them out as well. I’m hoping I can switch to an all Eufy system and get rid of my other system altogether! A couple small things in the app that I didn’t like is that when you first open the app, there are still images of the last video event that was recorded (or live view) I think it would be nice to show the current live video on all cameras instead of having to open each one up individually. Even better if the current live video could be displayed on all the cameras so you can get a complete view of everything happening. Also, my experience with the Google Home Hub was not that great. I was getting 15-20 seconds before the video would come up on the screen when I went to view a camera. I was also getting a stream unavailable message a lot as well. Not sure if that’s Googles fault, Eufy’s fault, or a combination of both. Would be nice if that was a little quicker. Not sure if that could be fixed or not though. Overall, I have been VERY impressed with this camera and I highly recommend it. I can’t wait to get my other Eufy cameras and get my whole system set up. If you are currently unhappy with your security system or have a major company that just released sub-par cameras and are forcing you to switch to an app that doesn’t work as good. Give these a try!!

ESSENTIAL Outdoor Home Security
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Eufy Spotlight SoloCam S40 is an all-in-one self-contained wireless video solution, with its best application being for outdoor surveillance. It can serve as a camera, motion-activated spotlight (using smart features), security camera, and communication device based on your needs. The S40 is a behemoth when put next to other cameras, but NONE are also solar integrated with a large battery. The field of view is a little tight, so you may need to adjust once you see your camera feed. The IP67 weather-proof build offers excellent protection from the elements, so you can set it and forget it. The setup process is quick and easy using an intuitive app-based approach. In all, Eufy knows how to do security right and ALL without monthly fees AND using ONBOARD AI. With this solution, you essentially get a camera with an unlimited battery so long as you give it a few hours of sunlight per day. Otherwise, you will have a 4-5 month battery life as most other cams in their lineup. Setup As an existing Eufy user, I added another device using the app as you would have done in the past. If you're new to the Eufy ecosystem, go to your app store and download Eufy Security, create a login, then add the device to your account - easy as that. I first like to test and place the camera in the general area to ensure solar charging and good video coverage. Everything you need to mount is provided for you in the box for a standard install. Long screws and also a set of wall anchors with screws to match are provided in this kit. If you are in the market for smart security, Eufy is where to start looking first! After installation, a quick check of the footage, and you will be ecstatic about the camera quality! I would say that is the best feature. It has HDR to help with bright situations, and the resolution and clarity are excellent in low light and daylight shots. License plates and faces are visible, which is a must in this industry. Strengths and Weaknesses The app and setup process is straightforward to use. The camera itself is a self-contained IP67 weather-proof BEAST. I like that there are NO FEES, local video storage, and it integrates well with Alexa and Google. With my Alexa ecosystem, I can use it as a trigger to turn on a light or send a notification through any of my Alexa speakers. The inclusion of onboard AI reduces false alarms and alert times while doing a great job of filtering people from the rest of the alerts. Below are a few thoughts I'd like to share regarding my likes and dislikes with the system. +Easy setup using the app and QR Codes +Just 2 hours of direct sunlight each day is enough to continuously power +Strong solid connection +AI onboard to detect people in just 200 milliseconds to minimize false alerts and keep your phone quiet. +Built-in storage 8GB claiming two months of storage encrypted under AES128 military-grade encryption to protect your privacy. +600 lumens of focused light with color temperature control and color night vision! +Alerts are almost instant! +No monthly fees! +Weatherproof IP67 +90dB siren built-in with flashing light and 2-way communication all in a self-contained easy to use and install solution. +Solar panel integrated for near-endless power. -Hard to conceal, starting with the color and size. It's a lot larger than other solutions out there. -Must enter "Power Manager" for an exact battery percentage and charging details. -There are moments with buffering, but usually, they work themselves out after a few seconds. -Planned obsolescence - Batteries not removable or replaceable. When it dies, you must buy new hardware. Onboard storage is not removable or upgradeable either - two pretty essential points of failure on wireless security cameras. Verdict This system is excellent, and I recommend it to anyone who doesn't want to pay monthly fees, charge their outdoor cameras, or pay for overpriced cameras out there. Eufy has created a sweet spot in the home surveillance market where the saying you get what you pay for doesn't ALWAYS have to be true!

Great Picture with Solar Charging
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.2K video quality combined with solar charging makes the Eufy Security Spotlight Cam Solar a great security camera. I have been using the camera for the last week. It's sitting near 100% or at 100% charge all the time. Zone mapping has worked great. The camera's software was easy to set up and the AI detection does a good job distinguishing between cars and people. The experience hasn't been perfect, solar charging built-in comes with its own drawbacks, but the experience has been pretty good. I'm happy with the camera and I can easily recommend it to others. To use the camera, you will need to download the Eufy Security App and set up an account. From there, setting up and initializing the camera was relatively easy. You will need to fully charge and update your camera before you mount it. Mounting is both easy and difficult. The camera needs a good amount of direct sunlight to charge. That means, you can't place the camera directly underneath an easement or guttering. You need an area with direct sunlight for the camera to work its best. Even when the camera gets direct sunlight, the camera doesn't appear to be that efficient with its solar charging. I've had the camera out for a week now. Most days had direct sunlight, but I only showed a 1 or 2 bars solar charge when the device was charging at its most efficient. The Eufy app states that 300 mAh is required to charge the camera 2%. Even on the sunniest of November days, I peaked at around 170 mAh according to the app. Despite not charging as efficiently as I would like, the camera maintains its charge. But I have the camera out in the sunlight all day. I don't believe the camera would stay charged with just one or two hours in the sun. But even if there is a slow drain, it will still be a long time before I actually have to take the camera down and charge it with a cable. I looked into gutter mounting options. If you consider a gutter mount, you should know that despite being a Eufy camera, the Solar Cam 2K is quite a bit heavier than other Eufy cameras. Make sure any gutter mount you pick-up is sturdy and can accommodate the extra weight. But the solar does appear to be working. I'm not sure it works as well as Eufy advertises, but it has worked well enough for me so far with the way I have the camera mounted. I just recently installed a new WiFi 6 mesh network and so far I haven't had any coverage problems with the Solar Cam. It's not the strongest device on my network, but so far, the 2.4ghz connection has worked well. Ai detection has done a good job distinguishing people and objects. So far, I haven't had any false alarms. The notifications and the recordings have only been triggered by people. I could change that setting if I wish, but my phone gets enough notifications. So far, I am really happy with the camera's software. The built-in speaker and microphone work well. I've had conversations with people. At first I pretend to be God, and then when that schtick fails, I explain that I am testing a new camera. And so far, I have had no problem hearing them and they have had no problems hearing me. The spotlight works well, but keep in mind that using the spotlight too much will drain your battery all the quicker. I like this camera. The video quality is great. If you have the camera mounted in a well lit space WITH good WIFI coverage, I believe your experience with the camera will be positive. Recommended 4.5/5

Solar powered camera ticks all the boxes!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The biggest draw of this camera over others is definitely the integrated solar panel which charges the internal battery, so as long as you have a reasonable amount of sunlight, you should never need to take this camera down to charge! Other features that Eufy has generally nailed on all of its cameras: -Video Quality - 2K video is crisp and clear -Spotlight is great for getting color video at night for action reasonably close to the camera -Night vision is also good when spotlight is not used. -No subscription fees, fully local storage! -Motion/person detection works well with lots of customization options Overall, another great camera from Eufy!

Great Camera - No Subscription Fee!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a great camera. I may be upgrading all my cameras to eufy now! I have an Arlo Pro 4 camera on my driveway now, and while thats great, it is not hardwired and the battery has to be charged every 4 months or so. 4 months is a long time, and the camera itself is great, but still having to take the camera off the mount and inside to charge for 6 hrs or more, leaving the home vulnerable and unprotected by that camera is a pain. Yes I could just easily by a solar panel to charge it, but I'm lazy and I haven't, and that's an additional cost. So with ALL that said, the Eufy Solar powered solo cam is awesome. I am still working through the app to find all the features, but so far so good! I obviously like the fact this has a built in solar panel to charge it. It has only been a few days I have had this so I will need to wait and see just how well it works. Make sure you follow the directions and use the included USB cord to FULLY charge the unit inside before you mount it and rely on solar power. The charge for me was slow. It had some power as the camera turned on, but instructions say you should wait until the LED light on the front stops being blue, and that took about 8 hours before I received a notification it was "fully charged". Setup is really easy. I created a Eufy account via the app, and used the QR code that showed up to register the camera. Charge the camera, connect to wifi and mount it outside using the included wall mount. Obviously this camera has a solar panel on the top so you will need to make sure it is in a location exposed to sun most of the day. Do not mount it under the eaves of your roof. That will not work. Best part about this is that there is NO subscription costs monthly like ring/arlo/google nest, etc. Free local storage. I'm thinking about upgrading all my cameras to eufy now.! Very recommended!

solar convenience with no monthly fees
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. There are many things to love about this camera, so I'll start with the cons. 1. Storage is fixed and not upgradable. 8gb is onboard, and that's what you're stuck with. 2. Battery is also fixed and non-removable. If the battery dies, then the entire unit is hosed - you have to buy a brand new camera. 3. Short mount. This is probably an intentional design feature given how heavy the unit is, but I guess it's more of a mixed bag. The solar panel is integrated to the top of the unit, so with the mount being short, your options for placement of the camera are fairly limited. More on this to come. With a separate solar panel + cord system, you can place the solar panel on your roof or off your gutter to get adequate sun exposure, while the camera is installed under your overhang or roof where there isn't much direct light. With this camera, because the solar panel is built onto the top of the camera, that means I couldn't install the camera under my patio. Furthermore, with treeline and neighbor's roof being tall, there were only a few spots in the back of my house where I could still get enough sunlight to make use of the solar charging. If you have an open layout with plenty of sunlight, then this won't be an issue for you, but for me, it was. Other than those few cons, there really isn't much to dislike nor nitpick. The onboard AI is actually pretty smart in filtering out false alerts. The solar panel only requires 2 hours of direct sun to maintain charge. The app integrates seamlessly and everything can be controlled from my iPhone. No monthly usage fees. Image quality is a step up from 1080p as would be expected for the 2K label. Once you unbox, you just have to do the initial charge of the unit, then get it linked up. With my home wifi mesh network, I didn't have any connectivity issues at all with the camera. All in all, a solid outdoor camera with just a few flaws.

A terrific "place anywhere there's WiFi" camera
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I received this product in exchange for my fair and unbiased review. The Eufy Solo Cam S40 security spotlight cam solar 2k is pretty much the perfect outdoor security camera for those who want to do it themselves but don't feel comfortable running power or data/video lines to a camera. It easily connects to your existing WiFi network and has terrific video and picture quality thanks to it's high-resolution 2k image sensor. The spotlight functionality is enough to light up a side yard or a small front yard, and as long as you have WiFi and sunlight, you can place the camera anywhere. ---------------------- First impressions and setup: The camera is packed efficiently in its box, with the mounting hardware, instruction literature, and a USB-C charge cable (used for initial setup) in the package. The mounting hardware is easy to install - you'll want a drill for this step, however, as it makes putting the screws in easier. The Eufy app will walk you through every step of setup. To test how easy this is, I had my 10 year old son do this step. It took him about 5 minutes to get it done from start to finish. The only good thing to know here is that you'll want to use the included USB-C cable to charge the camera a few hours prior to setup. ---------------------- Usage: The camera is super easy to operate in the app. You'll have access to play back past recorded events, view a live feed from the camera (including the ability to talk to people through the camera), control the built-in spotlight, and adjust how the camera works (sensitivity settings, nighttime recording settings, and even the color temperature of the spotlight). There are two features you may want for this camera but are not there - continuous recording and SD card storage. Owners of Eufy's HomeBase will also be interested to know that this camera, like any of the older Solo cameras, does not use the HomeBase for storage. ---------------------- Drawbacks: Besides the storage and continuous recording things, the main drawback of this camera is it must be installed in such a way that it receives a few hours of sunlight a day. This means you won't be able to install it under eaves of your house, in a tree, or on the north side of your home. ---------------------- Conclusion: I'm a fan of the Eufy Solo Cam S40 security spotlight cam 2k. It does everything I need it to do and does those things well. The motion recordings work every time, and even setup 75 feet outside of my home, the WiFi connection is perfect. If you're wanting a camera you can place on an outbuilding of your property or even outside of your home where there is no power, this is a perfect fit.

Love how battery lasts a very long time. Never had issues with connections easy to install. I love the app I can watch footage from a year ago.
