Customers are saying

Customers consistently note the excellent camera quality, long battery life, and ease of use of the SoloCam S40. The solar panel is a frequently praised feature, enabling convenient and continuous operation. While some users experienced issues with notifications and concerns about water resistance, the positive feedback on features like night vision, motion detection, and the spotlight significantly outweighs the negative comments. The built-in storage, eliminating subscription fees, is another highly valued aspect.

The biggest draw of this camera over others is definitely the integrated solar panel which charges the internal battery, so as long as you have a reasonable amount of sunlight, you should never need to take this camera down to charge! Other features that Eufy has generally nailed on all of its cameras: -Video Quality - 2K video is crisp and clear -Spotlight is great for getting color video at night for action reasonably close to the camera -Night vision is also good when spotlight is not used. -No subscription fees, fully local storage! -Motion/person detection works well with lots of customization options Overall, another great camera from Eufy!

This is a great camera. I may be upgrading all my cameras to eufy now! I have an Arlo Pro 4 camera on my driveway now, and while thats great, it is not hardwired and the battery has to be charged every 4 months or so. 4 months is a long time, and the camera itself is great, but still having to take the camera off the mount and inside to charge for 6 hrs or more, leaving the home vulnerable and unprotected by that camera is a pain. Yes I could just easily by a solar panel to charge it, but I'm lazy and I haven't, and that's an additional cost. So with ALL that said, the Eufy Solar powered solo cam is awesome. I am still working through the app to find all the features, but so far so good! I obviously like the fact this has a built in solar panel to charge it. It has only been a few days I have had this so I will need to wait and see just how well it works. Make sure you follow the directions and use the included USB cord to FULLY charge the unit inside before you mount it and rely on solar power. The charge for me was slow. It had some power as the camera turned on, but instructions say you should wait until the LED light on the front stops being blue, and that took about 8 hours before I received a notification it was "fully charged". Setup is really easy. I created a Eufy account via the app, and used the QR code that showed up to register the camera. Charge the camera, connect to wifi and mount it outside using the included wall mount. Obviously this camera has a solar panel on the top so you will need to make sure it is in a location exposed to sun most of the day. Do not mount it under the eaves of your roof. That will not work. Best part about this is that there is NO subscription costs monthly like ring/arlo/google nest, etc. Free local storage. I'm thinking about upgrading all my cameras to eufy now.! Very recommended!

There are many things to love about this camera, so I'll start with the cons. 1. Storage is fixed and not upgradable. 8gb is onboard, and that's what you're stuck with. 2. Battery is also fixed and non-removable. If the battery dies, then the entire unit is hosed - you have to buy a brand new camera. 3. Short mount. This is probably an intentional design feature given how heavy the unit is, but I guess it's more of a mixed bag. The solar panel is integrated to the top of the unit, so with the mount being short, your options for placement of the camera are fairly limited. More on this to come. With a separate solar panel + cord system, you can place the solar panel on your roof or off your gutter to get adequate sun exposure, while the camera is installed under your overhang or roof where there isn't much direct light. With this camera, because the solar panel is built onto the top of the camera, that means I couldn't install the camera under my patio. Furthermore, with treeline and neighbor's roof being tall, there were only a few spots in the back of my house where I could still get enough sunlight to make use of the solar charging. If you have an open layout with plenty of sunlight, then this won't be an issue for you, but for me, it was. Other than those few cons, there really isn't much to dislike nor nitpick. The onboard AI is actually pretty smart in filtering out false alerts. The solar panel only requires 2 hours of direct sun to maintain charge. The app integrates seamlessly and everything can be controlled from my iPhone. No monthly usage fees. Image quality is a step up from 1080p as would be expected for the 2K label. Once you unbox, you just have to do the initial charge of the unit, then get it linked up. With my home wifi mesh network, I didn't have any connectivity issues at all with the camera. All in all, a solid outdoor camera with just a few flaws.

A terrific "place anywhere there's WiFi" camera

I received this product in exchange for my fair and unbiased review. The Eufy Solo Cam S40 security spotlight cam solar 2k is pretty much the perfect outdoor security camera for those who want to do it themselves but don't feel comfortable running power or data/video lines to a camera. It easily connects to your existing WiFi network and has terrific video and picture quality thanks to it's high-resolution 2k image sensor. The spotlight functionality is enough to light up a side yard or a small front yard, and as long as you have WiFi and sunlight, you can place the camera anywhere. ---------------------- First impressions and setup: The camera is packed efficiently in its box, with the mounting hardware, instruction literature, and a USB-C charge cable (used for initial setup) in the package. The mounting hardware is easy to install - you'll want a drill for this step, however, as it makes putting the screws in easier. The Eufy app will walk you through every step of setup. To test how easy this is, I had my 10 year old son do this step. It took him about 5 minutes to get it done from start to finish. The only good thing to know here is that you'll want to use the included USB-C cable to charge the camera a few hours prior to setup. ---------------------- Usage: The camera is super easy to operate in the app. You'll have access to play back past recorded events, view a live feed from the camera (including the ability to talk to people through the camera), control the built-in spotlight, and adjust how the camera works (sensitivity settings, nighttime recording settings, and even the color temperature of the spotlight). There are two features you may want for this camera but are not there - continuous recording and SD card storage. Owners of Eufy's HomeBase will also be interested to know that this camera, like any of the older Solo cameras, does not use the HomeBase for storage. ---------------------- Drawbacks: Besides the storage and continuous recording things, the main drawback of this camera is it must be installed in such a way that it receives a few hours of sunlight a day. This means you won't be able to install it under eaves of your house, in a tree, or on the north side of your home. ---------------------- Conclusion: I'm a fan of the Eufy Solo Cam S40 security spotlight cam 2k. It does everything I need it to do and does those things well. The motion recordings work every time, and even setup 75 feet outside of my home, the WiFi connection is perfect. If you're wanting a camera you can place on an outbuilding of your property or even outside of your home where there is no power, this is a perfect fit.

This is an AWESOME camera. I recommend it, because you can just mount it up and forget it. The app is super easy to understand, along with very easy controls. The quality of the camera is great compared to others, and is very clear. The battery? Well, it's solar powered...BUT, it does have battery when it's not sunny. That is REALLY long compared to my old camera. 8GB built in memory is wonderful, again...set it up and forget it. Spotlight is bright, and it detects motion really well. This is worth it people, just buy it.

The only question I have now is why don’t all cameras have the built in solar? I guess it makes sense that there are some spots (like my front porch) where the camera just wont see sunlight directly so having a solar panel wouldn’t make sense… but man this is so nice, where I put this camera there is a ton of sunlight all day long (except when it is raining). I didn’t charge the camera all the way up like the instructions said to do because I wanted to see how the solar panel would do for recharging, I have gained about 3% of my battery back, but a majority of that was on the one sunny day. The other days were extremely cloudy, one day so much that I only got 2mAh from solar compared the sunny day where I got 261mAh for reference. You can find all of this info in Settings, Power management, and then Dashboard. I have several Eufy cameras and the one thing that annoys me is that I can’t put them all in Home, away, or one of my custom scenes at the same time. I have my cameras that use the home and then others like this one that are sold as a solo unit. That is my only complaint. Other than that, I absolutely love this camera. The spotlight is surprisingly bright for how tiny it is. I was thinking I needed a floodlight for where I put this but with the fact that the solar is charging it up to where I’ll never have to charge it and the light is bright enough to light up the entire area I want to (a staircase into the backyard). 2k is the perfect resolution. I have never not been able to see something I wanted to with 2k unlike 1080p. 4k is better It just doesn’t give me anything extra that I can see unlike the step from 1080p to 2k. The app has come along way since I first got it a few years ago. It is smooth to use on my android phone, and the integration with Alexa works perfectly. I love that I don’t need to pay for storage with this camera, I can if I want to but I don’t need to Overall, I have to say this is a pretty perfect package for a camera. I absolutely love the integrated solar and small spotlight.

I have three differently-branded DVR-based camera setups (I don't live in the best area - not the worst, but not the best) - the only thing any of them lack though is the ability to cover a small area of our back yard where our shed is and that's due to there being no power out there. That's no longer a problem! The camera setup was extremely easy and pairing with the app was just as simple. I was able to set up the camera in less than an hour to be able to peek at that area of my yard while we've been out of state. No DVR for someone to steal, which also means zero cloud storage fees! It stores everything on the included 8GB memory card. I need more of these ! Definitely worth looking into should you need a camera that you dont need to worry about running a power line to or replacing batteries!

    Great Outdoor Security Camera

There’s a lot that can be said about the Eufy SoloCam S40 camera - and almost all of it is good. It’s larger and heavier than other security cameras I’ve seen. It’s about 5 X 3.5 inches and weighs over a pound. The large top surface area is needed for the integrated solar panel and the weight is probably due to the battery. The battery is not removable, so in the event that it needs a recharge, the entire camera would have to be dismounted and charged via the USB cord. But it seems like that would be a rare occurrence. I charged the battery to 100% before using it and inside testing took the charge down to about 80%. But even though it was raining most of today, the charge was at 96% after I put it outside for a couple of hours. The battery charge can be easily monitored in the app. The Eufy camera works with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant and Apple HomeKit. I don’t have any of those so I wasn't able to test that function. There are 2 motion detection options. The camera has an AI Human Detection system that detects objects similar to the human shape and filters out animals, cars, etc. Or it can be set to detect all motion. It performed well on both settings. The camera has a 135 degree field of view and 8GB of local storage. Stored data can be easily monitored and cleared to create more space. Any videos that you want to save can be individually downloaded to the phone’s photo album. Events are stored by days - not one long running tally. The camera includes a very bright spotlight that can be set to come on at night when motion is detected. Both the color and brightness of the light can be adjusted in the app. Videos taken with the spotlight on were very sharp and looked like they were taken in daylight. I noticed that when I had the outside house lights turned on, the Eufy spotlight did not come on. Lots of things can be customized in the app. Changing the default notification sound lets me distinguish a Eufy camera backyard alert from an alert given by the camera that is in the front window. In my case there was a 10 - 15 second delay between the motion event and notification on my phone. That is similar to the time lag for my other camera by a different vendor. The coolest thing is being able to adjust the activity zone. Once the physical camera position is fixed, the target area can be modified in the app to eliminate spots that might give false alerts (people walking down a sidewalk) or any overlap into a neighbor’s yard. No subscription is needed with the Eufy camera. I just discovered how valuable that feature is. The trial period on another brand of camera that I have ran out yesterday. I no longer get notifications or event videos. It’s worthless without the paid subscription. I tried the Eufy camera inside to see if it might work if I put it in a sunny window with the option to plug it into the outlet as needed. I thought I might use it to see if anyone was walking past the front window. But it apparently can’t “see” through glass so that didn’t work. I did have some trouble with the 2K HD video. The default video recording quality is 2K HD and the app gave me a message "2K HD video not available on your devices" if I tired to view a recorded event or the live view. In the app settings I was able to change the video quality to Full HD (1080P) which allows me to view all the events on the event log. But I still get the error message if I try to see the live view. The Eufy app doesn’t just control the camera. It has an Explore button that shows “picks for you” with the other Eufy products and plans. I found that, and the SALE sign that sometimes flashes, to be annoying. I just want the app to control the product, not try to sell me things it thinks I want. Other than that, the camera is phenomenal and a good investment that should provide service for several years.

I have been using eufy security cameras for quick some time and have always been totally satisfied with their quality and results. This is a step up from the other products I have because of the big bonus of added solar charging and operation. It has allowed me to place the camera at a higher position and out of reach of would-be thieves. Unlike the other units I own, I no longer have to climb a ladder to retrieve and recharge when the battery gets low. Just be sure to place it in an area that gets a good amount of sunlight during the day to keep it charged up throughout the night. From my experience, eufy has always made quality products that I am proud to have around my home for peace of mind.

Very pleased with ease of installation and use. Have great Wi-fi connection to all the cameras. No subscription needed. No home base. Son-in-law has Eufy cameras and loves them. Said if the solar cameras would of been available when he bought his, that is what he would of bought. Been up for about three weeks and on nice sunny days they recharge to 100% most of the time. Plus they were on sale and couldn't pass them up. Now looking to replace both door bells with the Eufy door bell cameras.
