Really versatile zoom lens!

I had no intention of getting a new lens but one of mine quit communicating with my camera body so it turned into an emergency lens-buying situation. Glad I chose the 24-105 which is proving to be a great walking-around lens. I used to take two cameras, one with a 16-35, the other with a 70-200. Now I often find myself walking around with just the 24-105. It isn't quite as sharp as other lenses I have, but it's definitely passable.

Good lens, constant f/4, lighter than 24-70GM

I wanted to try this lens as it had a little better range, but in the end I found the extra range was not as important as being able to go down to a f/2.8 f-stop. Unfortunately Sony cheaped out on the design of this one, so when you zoom out it protrudes to become a longer lens rather than the professional lenses that can zoom in/out and remain the same size. Other than that the lens was sharp and seemed well made. I will recommend this lens, but only because it is decently priced for what it is. The design is really embarrassing the way it sticks out as you zoom. It looks like you have a cheap kit lens when you are out with your professional Nikon/Canon buddies.
