Amazing!

Haven't finished the game yet but so far the fighting is flexible yet challenging. The storyline is engaging enough with a good speckle of cutscenes & the upgrading of your characters, weapons and items isn't overwhelming. As for the levels, they're not open world but also not so linear that you feel like your hand is being held the whole time.

A must buy for the old fans and new

I really like how they have fleshed out more story from the Avalanche team for the remake. The battles can take some getting used to, I haven't play a FF since FF8. The side quests can get a little boring a tedious, but still fun in a way. I wish I had the summon materia from Best Buy for pre-ordering the game, but I haven't gotten an email or a code. Not sure what the deal is.

Great Reimagining

There are differences. The combat system is wildly different. The story is expanded. There are changes from the original events. Still, it maintains the spirit and tone of the old game, and is a great deal of fun. If you have the time and desire, and aren't going to be bitter because of the changes, pick it up!
