The dlc costs more than the actual game itself so be warned if you want everything.

Would recommended playing normal hard and playing through doing challenge modes you can find on reddit. Lunatic you almost have to watch a guide or its game over from your first move.

One of the Best 3DS Games

The battle system for this game is great, and the story is quite nice too. I really love the sprite-based graphics and the pairing system. If you have two characters pair up in battle, they will begin to support each other. There is often lots of extra stuff to do because of DLC missions/packs, although I wish it was free/cheaper. I already paid $40 on the game! There is so much to do as it is, though. Literally _hundreds_ of hours worth. At any rate, it's a fantastic game. If you even remotely like strategy/tactics games, you should give it a shot.

Or something like that. On the heels of Fire Emblem Fates being released in the west, I received an onslaught of gaming news mentioning Fire Emblem Awakening. I was unmoved by proclamations of it being the best game ever, and resolutely held out on purchasing it. However, notice after notice of brand new news eventually wore on my will, and I ended up picking up a copy when Best Buy restocked their inventory. So! My first ever Fire Emblem! Let's get one thing outta the way real quick: Having to turn on the Japanese VA work after each session of turning your 3DS on is annoying. I know it's been a long-known glitch, and I wish it'd just be patched already. While the english voicework isn't bad, you'll never pry Tomokazu Sugita away from me so long as his voice is in a game. So that detracted from the score... Moving on, I actually was surprised by how much I enjoyed this game. Though the translation takes quite a few liberties (some cringeworthy in how notable they are), I found the story solid if a little cliche. But my true love was the avatar builder. Choices are still incredibly limited and I found myself dissatisfied with several options being build-exclusive, but I found the option to build your own avatar very liberating and agonized over it for a good several minutes. The characters are a delight, and without mentioning names I can say I see several notable ones that really shine due to their given accent/speech patterns. The gameplay was the hardest learning curve for me, as strategy games had never been my forte, but given the difficulty option, as well as casual mode (the mode that doesn't have perma-death) this can all be breezed over if you're a beginner (like me!). I can't express much into this review, as from what I've glanced other reviews have summed up my thoughts nicely, so I'll leave you with this: Fire Emblem Awakening, more than any other FE game aside for possibly fates, is incredibly inclusive and you should definitely give it a try--even if you usually don't play strategy games!

This is a great game for anyone who is a fan of Final Fantasy Tactics. In combat (offense or defense), if you are next to an ally, the ally will assist you in battle. Each fight you have together increase the relationship between the characters. There are several difficulty settings to choose from. You can also choose to have allies that die in battle to never return, or have them return after you won the battle. Overall, if you want an in-depth game that is worth the money, this game is it. There are minor typos that appear every now and then, but it won't take the fun away from understanding the storyline.

Fantastic FE game for newcomers and veterans alike

This is a great role-playing game for the 3DS and a welcome addition to the Fire Emblem franchise. I was excited, yet weary, of starting up the game since it happened to be my first FE game, but it does a great job of accommodating those who are new to the series as well as experienced players. The different difficulty modes coupled with the new option to turn the series' signature perma-death feature on or off makes it easy to find a balance that's right for you. The story is very engrossing the first half of the game, and still holds up well during the second half. The gameplay is incredible and will definitely test your mettle if you're looking for a challenging strategy game. The graphics look great and continues to show the 3DS' potential. But the best thing about the game would be the amazing characters. I'm sure every player will be able to find characters for their team that they will grow to love. I can't recommend this game enough for any strategy rpg fan.

    Amazing turn-based RPG

I've never played a Fire Emblem game before picking this one up back when it came out. Heck, mainly picked it up because of its limited release status and how hard it was to find. However, I left it sitting in the packaging for a couple months before finally opening it up. But once I did, I couldn't put it down. Fire Emblem: Awakening has pretty much everything you want out of an RPG. Varying levels of difficulty, customizable characters, character relationships, and an amazing storyline. What initially drew me to the game was reading a review about how your characters had friendliness levels and that once they reached Rank S, something special happens (spoiler if I go further). If it's your first time playing these games, I recommend that you put it on normal mode instead of classic. Had to restart a ton of times since I'd have a character get killed every so often and they don't revive on classic. It can get a little frustrating when trying to level up weaker characters that can't even take 2 hits. I read that a straight clear of the story mode can be done in 8 hours...I did the paralogues and finally beat it after about 45 hours. If you want any sort of character development and a well-rounded party, then it'll take you a while to clear. Going to go back and see what other pairings I can get as well as making sure that I get all of the special characters as party members!

    Great game for advanced gamers

This is a wonderful game in many aspects, however I would caution some people from buying it for other reasons also. Pros: - It is a beautiful game graphically; the cut scenes and the artwork make great use of the 3D feature - It has a vast array of characters throughout the game that you will have the opportunity to get to know, build relationships with, and learn how to choose them wisely during your fighting strategy - The story line is amazing; it has great moments, drama and excitement, and it gives you the choice to make important decisions throughout the game that will affect the outcome of the plot Cons: - The game is too short for one playthrough, but too long for multiple playthroughs (I would like to have more time to develop relationships with other characters in the game, but the game is too long to go through again just to do that) - The game is somewhat difficult (even on the easiest setting) - Very time consuming, so that means if you're looking for a game that is low maintenance and easy to get into, then this is not your game In short, if you are a fan of JRPG (Japanese Role-Playing Games) and strategy games, this is the perfect game for you. However, this game is only for hardcore/advanced gamers, so it would not be a good fit for beginners are those looking for a quick, easy, and fun game.

I've played every Fire Emblem released in the Americas since 2003, and this is easily my favorite. The graphics are top-notch, beating out even the GameCube's Path of Radiance and the Wii's Radiant Dawn. The gameplay is classic Fire Emblem and has not changed much over the years, but it's hard to improve on perfection. Especially if you play on classic mode (where units who die are gone forever), the difficulty level can be punishing. However, completing chapters on harder difficulties with all your units still alive is very rewarding. Speaking of characters, there is a large and colorful army you can recruit, and so many units that you will not use all of them during a single playthrough - tons of replayability. If you love strategy games or RPGs, this is definitely one to pick up.

This is the game to get if you have a 3DS. Nintendo has brought out other Fire Emblem games in the US in the past, but this one is the best. This is a Strategy-RPG with a great story, graphics, and music.

Fire Emblem Awakening is the best game on the 3DS so far. The game allows you to create your own avatar and be a part of the amazing story. You will meet many characters along the way, each with a unique personally. You can even fall in love, get married and have children. The gameplay is just as you'll expect in any turned-based strategy game. There are three difficulties and two modes that you can play on, so it's very accessible to any newcomers or anyone looking for a challenge. I recommend playing on Classic mode for the extra challenge of keeping your character's alive. There is just so much depth to this game. I spent 70+ hours on my first play through. I highly recommend Fire Emblem Awakening.

OK. This game is simply excellent. The elements that are so important to RPG are all excelled in this portable game. The interesting characters, the surprisingly stunning visual, the incredible music, the tactical game play, and the recruitment of characters are among the best in recent memory.
