User Manual incorrect - now updated

The User Manual available online at the time when I bought the GPS clearly stated how to enable Audio when Recording. Once I tried to follow the instructions, the option did not exist. When I contacted Garmin about a week after purchase, their new User Manual that had that section removed must have been posted a few days ago. Garmin offered me to upgrate to their older NuviCam for an additional $50. Returned the Drive Assist and Back-up Camera.

When it worked it was great.

It worked well for 3 weeks. On the 4th week I got a new one. Lets see how lucky I am with this one. The last time I used the first one I was on the way home. About 2 miles from my house it told me to get on the free way and go South and get off the next exit and go on the free way going North and get off at the next exit. I could go on and on but I think you got the idea.

    Excellent unit

I purchased this unit to replace an older Garmin Nuvi unit. The voice command works nicely after a few glitches at first; I had to reinstall software to get it to work properly. The lane assist works better than I expected, although there are some false positives and other failures; it's good to have the extra warnings. The collision warnings work reasonably well, although again it gives some false positives; it's good to have the reminder to back off a bit. One unexpected benefit is that it warns if you're approaching a school zone, an animal crossing, or a decreased speed limit. I'm happy with the unit. It was a bit pricy, but worth it to me.

    Great product

Great product. The lane departure and front collision warnings are a little buggy but this is to be expected from a dash mounted unit. Camera doesn't seem to record sound but reliably records good quality video and will be useful in event of a crash. GPS functions are to be expected. With LMT, bluetooth, and a dash cam, this price can't be beat. Plus you can connect the backup camera and baby monitor.

    Well Rounded GPS Good Price

This GPS and it's feature is equivalent to last years model that was $349.99 except this one has a dash cam in it to. That makes this unit a great feature packed unit for the price. A lot of dash cams that don't even have the features of this one are $199.99 alone. You really can't go wrong with this unit. If you are in the market for a gps this is a great one and it has a dash cam. If your into the market for a dash cam well this one includes a GPS. I see other reviews complaining about no mic on it, but it's not advertised to have a mic for the camera so they gave bad reviews because they ASSUMED it did. IMHO dash cam needs no mic, what good will it do in court to hear your music playing on the video. It has the important stuff, Date, time, GPS coordinates, and speed, things that will be useful in case you have to go to court.

    Garmin - Driveassist 50lmt 5 Gps w/Camera

Great GPS - I only gave 4 stars due to not having used any of the blue-tooth functions yet. Pretty self-intuitive functions. Camera playback is clear in day and pretty darn good at night (think of what your eyes see at night with headlights on - camera sees/shows similar). MEMORY: This unit has TWO (2) Micro SD slots for memory cards - not the single slot in the product description. (1) for Camera @ 4GB - 64GB capacity (2) for Maps / Data @ 4GB - 32GB capacity. Voice is clear. Love the "camera" showing when you are near your destination point. The initial download of maps is "HUGE" so wait times will vary upon your net connection. Would recommend using either the 'Friction' or the 'Sandbag' type mount - that is unless you actually prefer using the supplied suction-mount.

    Garmin is the best!

Upgraded from an old Garmin and was shocked how many new features this one has! It took several times to get the position on the window correct for the crash avoidance and Lane departure to work correctly (seems to be higher the better). Crash avoidance works great while the Lane Departure seems to only work when there is a solid line on on side or the other. Also lane departure is subject to false reading when there are shadows on the road. But everything else works great.

the 5 inch screen is small

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I rate it only average because of only one reason , the SCREEN SIZE. Its 5 inches and the exit signs where you're suppose to exit you can barely see . the feature is the best , the direction is very accurate but the screen size is too small . if you have a perfect eye sight then this is the best. I exchange it with RandyMcnally and the screen size and the text size is awesome but the GPS ( randymcnally) I can only describe it in one word, SLOW , when you start it up, it takes 1 min. to open , its just slow . if compared to the Garmin, garmin is way faster, VERY FAST , when you turn the ignition on in seconds the GPS opens, but the only reason why I returned the Garmin is the screen size. I am very GPS dependent , I bought the first garmin GPS ,the street pilot was $1,500. I got tomtom and its no good , I have been a garmin guy since 2003,if this Garmin has bigger size , it should have been the perfect GPS, the collision alert is very good, the lane departure will only work when you cross the yellow line, but the white line in the middle it don't detect it , and the RANDYMCANNLY HAS ZERO lane departure and collision , randy McNally has this feature but so far it don't work.

Was looking for gps and a separate dash cam. Then found this awesome little thing - had BUILT IN dash cam. So instead of 2 separate devices and wires and plugs, I only need one device.

Dash cam does not record sound

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Was extremely disappointed that the dash cam does not record sound. for a GPS in this price range that should have been a given. The rest of the GPS functions work great , even the voice commands work great in my car with extremely noisy exhaust. I am going to say yes to recommending this product if you do not care about dash cam sound record, because the rest of the GPS works great.

    Best Garmin GPS To Date

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

this GPS is great. besides having a dash cam, it also has the warning when you are close to the car in front and an alarm if you are too close to the left or the right of the roadway. the GPS is small so it does not take up much room on the windshield. also, the backup camera option is very nice too.

So far no buyers regret. Like all voice activated items it takes a while to get familiar with your voice. Also I wish that it could be locked with a password.

    Stopped working in 31 days

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Never dropped or abused it in any way. 31 days after buying it I noticed the cam stopped recording, then I got an error that my cable wasn't the correct cable for getting traffic when it got traffic reports earlier that day. Then minutes later it stated the SD card wasn't in, it was. Rebooted it... never powered up. Completely dead, won't charge, PC doesn't recognize it when connected. I no longer have my receipt and registering it on their site the day I got it means nothing therefore it doesn't qualify for the 90 day warranty even though it went completely dead in 31 days. Garmin is not a brand I can buy from after this experience.

Voice Direction issues in Mexico after map update

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I went to the store and bought my Garmin DriveAsssist 50LMT GPS. It worked great until I arrive home and connect it to Garmin Express Software for the updates. After the updates the GPS stops responding for the voice directions in Mexico. It works great in the US, but once you cross the US-Mexico border the voice directions stops working in Mexico. I report it to Garmin Support and they only open a case number and told me to wait. If you want to use it in Mexico my suggestion is to keep the map version that it comes from the store. Do not update to map version: Full coverage of North America 2018.10

    Screen Resolution is Horrible!

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The Screen Resolution makes you feel like you bought a device from 1998. Let me give you a hint for making the best navigation device and this is coming from a professional driver. Take Garmin drive lux and add to it 1080 HD Dashcam upper right side because 95% of people put GPS on driver's left hand side. You should also add sound to the recording options. And it would be great if you added a lower resolution camera to record what is going on inside the car. I feel like you can make a better device even if it is more expensive. The screen resolution and camera placement and camera without sound recorder is a joke!!!
