||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.had problems with the first one was inaccurate on the road trip and trying to find places to go. went back to Best Buy and they exchanged it for a new one, the new one is working a lot better but still has some discrepancies. have some problems with trying to get the new maps update and to take into the unit.

Defective
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Battery lasts about 2 hours total even with multiple turning the unit on/off for trips. What's unbelievable is there is NO battery indicator light anywhere on the screen. So, at any moment you will be driving along and Bam! LOW BATTERY! CONNECT CHARGER! Just pops up and puts you in a panic scrambling for the charger. What happened next was truly something else...plug in the charger and the screen tells me "the device is not supported, plug in a compatible USB device cable." This is the cable that came with the unit! I drove straight to Best Buy and returned this little bugger.

Posted .The maximum battery life on the 3597LMTHD is up to 2 hours. The expectation for our automotive GPS devices is that they'll be used with the included vehicle power cable. This is especially true for devices such as the 3597, which include lifetime traffic since the power cable doubles as the traffic receiver.
With regard to the error message you describe, this is the message that would appear if you connected the power cable into the back of the device rather than the powered mount. The USB port on the back of the device is for data transfer (software updates and map updates).
Thank you for your feedback. -JPK

Not worth the money
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a good GPS however it says it's also a 3D GPS. The only 3D you get is when it shows you the sign your getting of. Nothing else is 3D , it worked fine but also to much complicated stuff. If this is a first GPS get one that's less complicated.

very heat sensitive, locks up regularly
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.overall, I feel my lower priced magellan was a better product. I paid more than three times the price of the magellan and feel I should have kept the old one. This locks up when it gets hot, I've had to mount it on my rpm gauge to keep it out of the sun and it does not annouce street names, just turns. Not as user friendly as magellan.

The best Garmin GPS yet
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my third Garmin GPS over 10 years. I loved my Garmin Nuvi 350 when I got it, and then thought the 1690 blew the 350 away. Now the 3597LMTHD is the best of the bunch. The screen on this unit is superb. The display was well thought out. One of the things I liked about the Nuvi 350 was the display of the cross streets along the top of the display as you drove down the street. This made finding streets much easier. The 1690 changed that to displaying the street you are driving on. While that piece of information is not really important to me, I could kind of see why they did that. The 3597 displays BOTH pieces of information. THANK YOU Garmin! The annoying "RECALCULATING" prompt is GONE! if you stray off course, it just displays the new route. The voice prompts are more informational as to what lanes you should be in at key points on your route. The voice commands actually works pretty well, just make sure to turn down the radio when using them. One of the features I liked about the 1690 was the ability to download locations to the GPS (using the built in cellular radio) from Google maps on our computer. That was a very important feature that I did not want to lose. Having to hook the GPS up to a computer to upload locations was unacceptable. This GPS supports SmartLink software on your smart phone. I can search for a location on my iPhone and hit a button and the location shows up on the GPS. While I liked using Google Maps better, this is certainly an acceptable solution. The traffic uses Navteqs HD traffic which is not available in all areas. The biggest problem I had was figuring out how to delete locations I no longer wanted. I used to go into a saved location and tapped on the icon for the location and an option came up to "delete" it. This procedure did not work and was starting to annoy me. I finally figured out that some screens had a "button" that looks like three horizontal bars. Hitting this icon brings up additional options and on this screen "DELETE" was an option. Another nice feature is the ability to zoom in and out using two finger gestures. Pinch the screen in to zoom out and pinch out to zoom in. You can also move in a screen list by swiping up and down instead of pressing up and down buttons. The screen is much more responsive when typing than either the 350 OR 1690 were. The GPS is held onto the mount by strong magnets, no more clipping and unclipping from the mount. While there are still features I have not mentioned, you can get the idea that this is a top of the line GPS well worth its cost.

Great features but they didn't all work
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bluetooth had no volume for the caller or callee. Voice commands were never understood. Battery did not hold a charge and would not charge in the car. We returned this model and bought one without Bluetooth or voice recognition. We are happier and it holds a charge.

GREAT SCREEN BUT SLOW TO CATCH UP

Don't Buy It
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The solar gain though the car windshield heats the metal case to the point where the device is too hot to handle resulting in fried electronics. I bought this device on 8/16/2013 and after a number of heat related failures it totally died within three weeks. Best Buy was good enough to provide a full refund in the form of a store credit. Apparently, Garmin never tested this product on a windshield before they released it. Poor Engineering. Find another model to buy.
