And I was surprised to see it alerts you when you are going thru a school zone. And the directions are always right on the spot!

A few updated features that have been added since my older Garmins such as what exit signs will look like as you approach them. The format of search categories are somewhat different and took awhile to get used to since I'm already used to the old format.

Regarding the device taking you all around instead of a more direct route to your destination, the device has navigation settings that can be changed to provide a more desirable route. We would would encourage you to use the steps below to change these settings on your device or the Garmin FAQ link/URL.
1. power your device on
2. press Settings
3. press Navigation
4. change the settings to help provide a more desirable route

Product great however description wrong

I bought it literally on my way out of town (in the US) however once I got home and looked at it more I discovered that Canada was not included like the best buy.com description said. However, I got it at a great price so I decided to keep it. The screen is bright, the split to show what lanes to use for an exit is awesome too. I would reccomend it, however be aware that it does not have Canada.

Some nüvi models are preloaded with regional maps. Some versions come preloaded with US & Canada, other regional versions are only sold in the US and contain the lower 48 States. The nüvi 55LM is a regional model which are preloaded maps of the lower 48 states, other nüvi 55LM versions sold in the U.S. do have U.S. and Canada maps.
The Product Features section will help guide you to which maps are loaded.

This was on sale and seemed like it might fit my needs and budget. Worked great for the trip, and I use it occasionally to get to unfamiliar places around town. Good product.

He would get really frustrated with not being able to find places. He would use his GPS on his phone but then got pulled over for using his phone. He felt trapped being home all the time. So I went out and bought this little guy. It was such a perfect gift. There are some updates you need to do before using, no big deal then you just plug and go. I recommend it to anyone and everyone. Especially if you're brand new to an area!
