As for me, I found it a little awkward to figure out, even when I tried following the instructions in the .pdf file. Do I need to enter my starting address AND my destination address? If so, what are the step-by-step details? I also find the sound the unit makes EVERY TIME you touch the screen to be annoying. I'm not a techie type person - maybe that's what's causing the difficulties/dislikes for me. I took it on a recent road trip but never took it out of the box. I guess I should have bought a new atlas instead and saved myself some frustration and some money.

It has a lot of features, sure, but other than that, it's just average, if not a little lower. The routes it give, regardless of how you set it up in the options section, are usually the scenic, longer routes. I'll have my phone maps open and this as well and my phone wins every time. Even though I have the setting as "shortest route". I wouldn't recommend buying it, just use your phone, definitely will give better, faster directions for your destination.

For some reason I lost earlier version and wanted to try this new version. I was disapponted with the option of locating address in new version. In earlier version it use to filter the address with zip code, then to street address. whereas in new one it starts asking street address first. I was lost.

It does not tell you to turn till you are right at the cross street, no time make sure you are in the right lane or not. If you miss your turn it does not redirect you to get back on track.

Your nüvi 55LM has the option for you to change the voice prompts to text-to-speech (TTS) which will speak street names (e.g. "Turn right ON ELM STREET in 500 ft."). Enabling this feature if not already may improve the usability of your Garmin GPS.

Another feature your device comes with is Lane Assist. Using Lane Assist will guide you to the correct lane for an approaching turn or exit, making unfamiliar intersections and exits easy to navigate.
