A excellent fitness wearable. Only problem I found was the lack of instructions. But as far as a strapless HR wearable I find it better than Fitbit or any other wearables.

I bought this item for my husband for Christmas so he could monitor his sleep. I decided to go back and buy 4 more for my adult children. Can I say that this present was a huge hit. All my gifts were very much appreciated and are used daily and enjoyed. I would diffiently say this was a great purchase and one of the best items in this class of fitness watches.

Purchased to monitor my heart rate but it is also fabulous for tracking activity, reminding me to move, pushing me to meet goals. Is also a great alert for calls and texts. The only thing I would change is the height of the face. I bump it often.

Overall the tracker mostly does what it says it will do. What it does well: Step Tracking, Sleep Tracking. What needs to improve: MyFitnessPal integration (negative calorie adjustments are too high), uncomfortable watch band, flights climbed tracking. I used it for a while but got frustrated with the mismatched numbers between MyFitnessPal and Garmin Connect - they are way off from each other. I still use it for sleep tracking since my Apple Watch that I bought to replace it does not do sleep tracking.

Santa gave me the Garmin - Vivosmart Hr Activity Tracker + Heart Rate - Purple. I'm not a big runner or anywhere near a fitness nut, but this little wrist rocket is perfect for me. Buzzes me when I've been sitting at my desk too long to get up and MOVE, gives me lots of good information (distance, stairs, variety of workouts, heart rate, even time & temp...). Advanced users have plenty of detailed data to tap, but the step counter is the big prize for me and it's wonderful. Let's me know how far I've gone today and the app on my phone gives me more history than the law allows. The little gal at Best Buy helped test the Fitbit and a couple of others, but the Garmin was far better. It is the perfect device to get an old fatty up and about. Could not be happier.

This has been a reliable fitness and running tracker. Despite no GPS, it functions well and gives a good estimate of distance. The HR monitor is moderately slow to changes in rate but accurate after a minute or 2.

The new screen over the original Garmins is much better, and the newer features and heart rate monitor is nice... but, it keeps losing sync with the Galaxy S7, It seems to have a hard time keeping synced so it can update to the phone / web app. I have had to pair it again and again several times in the month that I have owned it. I have always gotten it to pair and sync again, but it gets frustrating. I would not recommend this to anyone with an S7 until they fix whatever keeps it from synching.

We appreciate your feedback and for taking the time to write your review. I’m very sorry to hear about the Bluetooth and sync troubles that you experienced with your vívosmart HR, and I wanted to provide some troubleshooting suggestions for both you and others who may be reading this review.

With regard to the Bluetooth issues:
      1. Please ensure that the Garmin Connect Mobile app is up to date. If "auto updates" are enabled on your phone, you may already be up to date. If not, you can check the Google Play Store to see a list of app updates that are available, if any.
      2. Please ensure that your vívosmart HR has the latest firmware installed. We recommend using a computer to update the device via Garmin Express (http://software.garmin.com/en-US/express.html).
      3. Please ensure that you're following the pairing instructions as listed below. (Please note: Your vívosmart HR will not function properly if paired directly through the Bluetooth settings on your phone. It must be paired within the Garmin Connect Mobile app.)

      Pairing Instructions: http://support.garmin.com/support/searchSupport/simpleCase.htm?caseId={a84ed9c0-92f9-11e5-4cfe-000000000000}&kbName=garmin

Once your vívosmart HR and the Garmin Connect Mobile app are updated and the devices are paired, they should sync properly. Should issues persist, Garmin Customer Care would be happy to assist you further, and can be reached using the contact information listed on our Support page (www.garmin.com/support).

Again, thank you very much for your input. (KS) Garmin

The Garmin offers a larger display than other trackers. It is easy to use and convenient as it shows emails and texts on its display. The app us not as nice as other tracker apps, but it isn't too bad. It is water resistant up to 50ft also. This makes it easy to keep the watch on always.

Generally, this is a good product that works as advertised. It seems accurate although I haven't definitively tested that. One feature I find especially interesting is that it records my sleep among light, deep, and awake. I was surprised at the results. It requires charging twice a week which, of course, precludes using it during the time it is attached to the charger. However, it charges quickly and is fully charged in about an hour. Another feature I like is that it gives me a readout of emails with a vibration notification so I can see who is emailing me without looking at the cellphone.

Good at the basics for our first fitness tracker

My husband and I both bought a Garmin Vivosmart HR tracker this year at Thanksgiving: for me, the regular band; for him, the extra-large band. We have Garmin devices on our bicycles that have lasted for years and trusted the Garmin quality. Overall, each device works pretty well for our purposes, which are primarily setting Steps goals and tracking daily activities. We have run into a few "bugs," some known and unresolved by Garmin. First, we charged my device using the USB cable provided, attaching to an old laptop running Windows 8. The Garmin application works fine on this computer. However, it stopped recognizing the device for charging and/or synchronizing after the first two times. Our old laptop has multiple USB ports; it wouldn't work on any of them. We tried switching the cable since we had two new devices. Neither one worked. So we eventually synchronized mine using the Bluetooth functionality on my iPhone and my husband's using the app/Bluetooth functionality on his newer Windows 10 laptop. We use a converter to charge via surge protector. So far, no new issues on charging or synchronizing. Garmin knows that the Floors function is faulty on this device, especially for measuring floors ascended. Sometimes it correctly "reads" the elevation gain on my device for our stairs at home; sometimes it misses it altogether. Sometimes it correctly "reads" the elevation gain when I climb two full flights of stairs at work (with more than 10 feet per floor); sometimes it reads this as one flight; and sometimes it fails to read it at all. As I said, this is a known issue that Garmin hasn't corrected. My husband wears his tracker on his right wrist because he wears a watch on his left wrist. Even though we have used the online app to specify that he's wearing it on the right, it still displays as if he's wearing it on the left. Software glitch; no fix yet from Garmin. Finally, I have my tracker synchronized with MyFitnessPal app. The Garmin app reads the MyFitnessPal information pretty accurately, but not vice versa. MyFitnessPal app always shows fewer actual calories burned than what the Garmin app is showing from my activities and workouts. MyFitnessPal says this is because they're estimating calories burned?? That makes no sense that their estimate would be lower than the actual calories calculated by Garmin. But I let it work for me, figuring it's better to have burned more calories than what I'm tracking on MyFitnessPal. So just a few glitches, but we're both very pleased with this as our first fitness trackers ~ and motivated to let it help us make healthier choices for the new year!

The Garmin Vivosmart HR is easy to set up, use and reliable. If you are more concerned with function over form this waterproof watch/tracker is for you. As of Jan. 2017 Fitbit only water resistant offering looks like a fashion bracelet & does not include a watch function.
