I've been using these unitized washer/dryer units for decades. My last unit gave me near 20 years of service, reason why I decided to renew my unit with this GE Spacemaker combo. I'm very pleased with the functionality and the results: it's good in both, washing and drying the clothes. Also, it's very easy to use, with the necessary cycles and settings, not more, not less.

The lint screen is cheaply made and I would rather the handle on the dryer be made of a sturdier plastic or metal. It could be a little quieter. Does well cleaning the clothes.

It looks small but it does good size loads. It spins so well it makes drying time shorter. Highly recommend this unit especially for small spaces.

The washer has surprisingly large capacity for a stacked unit. The door of the washer is a little tight, but that is pretty standard for a stacked unit like this. Happy with the purchase.

Sometimes purchases are just so-so other times you hit a home run. Unfortunately the GE Unitized spacemaker washer and dryer was to be several unforeseen complications in a purchasing exercise. We purchased our current condo almost a year ago and it came with an older model Whirlpool Unitized set. It was older, noisy and ready to be replaced. On spec and even in the store, the GE model was very nice looking, and seemed to be exactly what we were looking for to replace our current stackable. We were limited in space as the condo has a closet that fits to standard stackable appliances or this one sized unitized configuration. We decided to replace like for like and unfortunately the cosmos were just not going to let us do it. The story ends great but just is not what we expected at time we were making the decision on the GE. The delivery was prompt, team were great and then the first problem occurred. After unboxing a brand new set, the dryer door wouldn't latch and there were dings and places where the metal casing was bent. The delivery team was really good and said we should send this back. We did and waiting for a new set to arrive. This was disappointing. At the cost of nearly 1400 dollars, I was never feeling the value of the models equaled the price. I was uncomfortable but we asked for a second delivery of a new unit. When the second unit arrived, it was even worse. Out of the carton, the dryer door handle had a sharp metal piece exposed and plastic pieces were cut up and scarred and a few more metal dings. How does a new appliance get damaged inside a box showing no signs of any trauma. Anyway, even though the GE model on paper exceeded our hopes, the 1400 price tag is in my opinion too high for the quality of the appliances from the factory. They had to be damaged before placing into the boxes. Not one but two or I would have just written it off to a fluke. Now the good news, after speaking with our local BestBuy, they really cared about our experience. We actually measured the closet and we could fit a standard size stackable set. We chose the LG stackable washer and dryer. It arrived perfect, clean, fit in the closet and was ready to go. Our last set in our home we sold was the top loading version of these same models. For just a hundred dollars more we go tremendous quality and features compared to the unitized set. I really was rooting for the GE set but in the end, we ended up with a better solution for our needs and we thank GE for their delivery support and rush to get us a replacement. They also took back the units without any problems. It was rare in my opinion but two times experiencing inferior quality units and the price were leaving me uncomfortable. I am not a laundry expert, but just as a consumer, I would think the GE unitized set should be priced in the 1000 range. When adding power cords, vents, and the lack of features commonly found on similarly priced 1400 dollar washers and dryers, we ultimately decided to just buy the standard models to the unitized version. I hope GE figures out what is going on in these sets before they are packed. They are outstanding for small spaces and for those who only need the basic washer and dryer. If the price was 999, many in that space would have an easy winner. At $1199-1400, even on sale, quality and limited features don't compare with separate stackable units. I am just trying to be real. I like the GE models, just had a couple of hiccups trying to purchase them. Hopefully others have better luck. Don't write them off for my experience alone.

I’d bought an earlier version of this machine about 5 yrs ago and it was nothing but trouble.. time and time again I’d have to call for repairs on it because it kept freezing up.. that little blinking light show it would put out when things had gone awry had really gotten old. Since I was pretty much stuck with having to get a stacked unit, I’d looked at separate units you could stack.. problem with those was I wouldn’t be able to have a pedestal underneath because it wouldn’t have gone through the doorway to get installed and I’m way too old and crippled to have to get on my hands and knees to get clothes out of the washing machine. I don’t know what GE did, but they finally got this one right. Wash cycle takes about one hour and clothes come out extremely well spun so the dryer doesn’t have to work very long to get things dry. Another perk from the older version is this one is so quiet! I keep going in to check on it because I can’t hear it running like I could the old one. Their older version was like listening to a jet plane with engine trouble when it was spinning. Another plus for this unit is it not only has a sensor setting for the wash size, but you can choose your settings yourself.. THAT was a biggie for me. Also, the water fills from the top so I can run the water over my soap cap rather than having to dump it in first. I’ve had this one for almost a month and not a single problem. I did notice that sometimes, not always, if I started the dryer right away after it finished and I hadn’t turned the washer setting to off, the wash lights would come on.. I just turn the dial to off and no problems. I have, once again, become a fan of GE appliances, but will admit, I got the extra 5 year warranty... just in case.
