Customers have good things to say about the 4.9 Cu. Ft. High Efficiency Smart Top Load Washer, particularly its cleaning performance, large capacity, and ease of use. The size of the machine is also a positive point for some users. However, some customers have concerns regarding the noise level, the absence of an agitator, and issues with balance during operation. There are also a few reports about reliability and the spin cycle.

We are extremely happy about this purchase. We have had a front loading unit for many years and decided to go to a top loading. The washer is huge inside and looks great with the matching dryer. We have been able to feel the difference from our previous machines compared to these ones. The clothes feel a lot cleaner and smell cleaner.

LOVE THE WASHER PARTICULARLY CAUSE IT DOESN'T
HAVE THAT REMOVABLE AGITATOR IN IT. I
PURCHASED IT BASED ON THAT AND
AM SURPRISED HOW WELL IT WASHES.

Throughly enjoy, while its sensing the laundry its SLIGHTLY loud…but the amount of clean your colors and whites are, dang near incomparable. While washing it wont keep you awake at all. The deodorant stains in my white shirts, gone. My jeans(ralph lauren, Levi Strouss, Tom Ford) with the right settings, came out beautiful. The
We’re thrilled to hear you’re enjoying your washer, and it’s providing an excellent cleaning performance for you! Regarding the noise during load sensing, you may want to make sure the washer is leveled to cut down on any extra vibration that may be adding to the noise level. We’re confident the washer will keep taking care of all your laundry needs for years to come!

Not as quiet as I thought it would be. The cycle is longer than I thought and it doesn't default to maximum spin so it can be necessary to do a spin and drain cycle after completion of wash cycle.
Your new washer may sound different from your prior unit because of the newer technology. Clicks, water flowing, gear sounds followed by pauses, and electric hum sounds are all part of the normal wash cycle. We recommend that you review the "Sounds" section on pg. 24 of the Owner's Manual for a description of the sounds you may hear.

Washer is slightly noisy, the capacity is awesome.
Hi there – We’re happy to know that you're enjoying the capacity that your washer offers! At the same time, we’re also sorry that the noise level for this washer hasn't met your expectations. Modern washers and dryers will generate certain sounds/noises due to the nature of their design, and you can learn more about those sounds by reviewing page 24 of the owner's manual. Thanks for your time and have a wonderful day! -Don@GEA

I love this washing machine. I chose the impeller, and it works great. It seems to use less wasted water, cleans my clothes perfectly and quickly. It does show fingerprints, but considering the price and quality of this washing machine, I can surely live with that.

The washing machine actually does all that it says and is especially good at getting most of the water out of the fabrics; however, in doing so it tends to make a lot of noise as it bounces around the room. It’s a bit embarrassing when company is here.

Brand response from GE Answers

Hello- We are happy to hear your washer is working well and cleaning your clothes. However, we are sorry you're having this experience with your being extra loud. It may be getting out of balance. All GE Appliances washer tubs move freely within our exclusive auto balance suspension system. It is a rod and spring floating suspension, designed to withstand extensive out of balance situations without the need for an "out of balance" switch. During an out of balance load, the basket is allowed to "float" forward and backward, side to side, and up and down, yet it never touches the floor nor is it even connected to the floor. As a result, the clothes basket can move freely, and this is normal. Note: The more the legs are extended, the shakier the washer will be during operation. We have some Anti-Vibration Pads that may help with this issue. Please check our site for these or reach out to our GE Parts team. If you have any questions in the future, please let us know. We are always happy to help! Joyce@GEA
