Definietly play the first one for ps4 that comes before this so you can get into the story line. Playing this game is spiritual and can help you evolve and be a beter person if you pay attention.

Brought back some elements from the original trilogy (won't spoil) And The DLC is a love letter to players of the original games, and gives focus back to Kratos journey story to midgard , it's trials are a lot more difficult just like the original series and a lot less walking simulator less compared to the base game.
