My old Google nest speaker was never like this. Sadly it finally but the dust. Also I don't find the sound quality very good. If i did it again, I would get a different option. All this said, it mostly works well and does what asked.

If you have the google eco system, I think its a good addition. I was looking for audio capabilities and its sound quality is average. The one thing nice about it is that you can talk to it for your music. However for me audio quality is more important and so I returned it, but for what it is, great value for your $.
