The nighttime resolution leave some to be desired. Also recording of events requires a premium subscription, be aware. This is an older product which is scheduled for upgrade this year according to rumor. I had the need arise before that date. The IQ version was not available. I would look at ARLO 4 as an alternative

Nest cameras use high-power infrared (IR) LEDs to illuminate the scene. Night Vision video quality can be affected by internet speed and other issues. But, most Night Vision specific issues are caused by your camera’s infrared light that reflects off a surface near your camera, like a shelf, window, window screen, or wall.
As for the recording of events, Nest Aware is a paid subscription service you can use with your Nest products to help keep you informed about important events at your home. With the Nest Aware subscription, you can create your own custom zones to cover the areas you want to be notified about. Activity Zones can have your camera send alerts and mark your video history timeline when there's important motion in the zone.
