    Some Good. Lots of Problems.

I bought 8 of these (both indoor and outdoor). Generally they work well. But, there are serious problems. The zones you create to mark when a person walks into the zone often does not register. The cam on my porch could see a person standing there for several minutes and not register it on the playback marking or notice that is supposed to be sent when someone enters a zone. Also, the playback does not have a time/date stamp that is viewable when you copy the recording. . . say to give it to the police after a break in. When I called for assistance, the main people have no idea how to deal with issues and I was kept on hold for over and hour and a half for a supervisor before hanging up. Nest, you could be great. Get it together.

    Terrible Servers, Overpriced Service

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The Nest servers are absolutely terrible, unfortunately for Amazon, they use AWS servers. Nest customer service has a bad habit of accusing customers that it's their wifi setup. We're using Google's Wifi Mesh with 4 points and have stellar coverage throughout our home and backyard and the cameras still skip and spin and show low quality a lot of times, even though I can stand right next to a camera with a phone on wifi and get speed tests of 175/25 easily, 25mbps should be plenty sufficient for a camera to upload in at least 720p but it can barely do that. The Nest Home website (home.nest.com) is terrible on a computer, zooming in and out doesn't work half the time when you try to enhance the video and a lot of times you just see a spinning icon. Things seem to run smoother on my phone but no matter which broswer I use on my gaming PC, it just seems to have trouble. Nobody likes to continue spending money after they've already purchased a product and the Nest Cam practically becomes useless after the Nest Aware trial expires unless you spend $10 a month to keep it. You can only see a photo shot of an activity that occurred within the last 4 hours without the subscription but that's it, zero video storage. Nest should either develop software that users can install on a PC that can record the video on their own device or provide at minimum 24 hours of live video history for free. I love nest products but do not buy it unless you plan on spending an extra $10-$20 a month for Nest Aware.

Useless unless you pay $20 mo per camera

Wanted to keep an eye on my home, was looking for 3 cameras. These work good during the day but night time resolution is useless. First, it does not work through glass at night. I tried to aim one through a window next to my front door and the built in IR lights just cause glare. The resolution at night is poor, impossible to recognize anyone. Also, during the day it informs me of every car that dives by yet missed a delivery guy dropping off a box? He walked right in front of the camera. Also, I was not aware that unless you pay $20 per month, per camera, you cannot go back and review what it has seen. So what was $500 investment turns into $720 per year to use.

Each time we lose power, the power needs to be cycled to the camera for it to work. Not easy to do when you are 800 miles away. Therefore, camera remains dark (useless) until we physically go back and fix. Great when it works!

Beware a status light is always on

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

We have nest cams all over our house. And one is in our childs room as a monitor. Well...google/nest in their infinite wisdom modified the camera settings in an update. So now instead of being able to turn the status light off (so it doesn't shine in a dark room with a sleeping child)...it's now on all the time. And get this!!! It's even better!!! It blinks when you are watching the video. So my daughter wakes up...I check the camera...and now I see her staring at a blinking light wondering what the heck is going on. Whoever runs product development at Nest should be fired and never work in tech again. How can you be so disconnected from your customers?? Let's not even mention that the ones pointing outside to monitor the driveway or back yard now have lights that won't turn off so you know exactly where not to go if you are a bad guy and what part of the house to avoid. I'm seriously appalled by this company right now.

    Horrible support

I own 8 Nest cameras at 2 different houses. Be aware that to save any video/history, you need to pay for cloud storage. They now have a 5 day history for less money vs a 10 day but you need to cancel the 10 day & then resubscribe for the 5 day. I have spent hours on the phone with tech support & I am now sorry that I own 8 cameras.

Completely failed us in our time of need.

We purchased a camera under the Dropcam brand, provided all the necessary information and placed a credit card on file for future renewals about a year ago. At no time did they offer us a renewal, attempt to charge the card on file, notify us something was wrong or tried any sort of contact via email or phone. Yesterday someone entered our home and upon logging into their system I found no video history and only noticed an offer for an Annual subscription to Nest Aware? In desperation I paid the $100 fee but again no video history? FYI, my email was correct as is all the other data we had initially provided. Unlike thermostats and other similar devices, security cameras are much too important to trust to a company that mainly focuses on home automation. BUYER BEWARE!

    Overpriced and limited controls

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I bought two of these cameras. When I first got them the picture was crystal clear. I have one aimed out of my front window and was able to read license plates. After about 3 months, pictures became pixilated and essentially worthless. I can't even get a clear picture of the faces of the people walking on the sidewalk about 8 feet from the camera. I called Nest about this and they blamed my internet. So, I called and increased my mbps, this made no difference in my picture. It only cost me another $25/month. Aside from that, you don't have complete control over the camera. I want to be notified every single time someone is seen by my front camera because my home is on a dead end street. But, Nest Cam has what they call "intelligent alerts" that cannot be turned off. So it decides when to notify me. I get notified when cats run in front of my cam but not when cars are using my driveway or people are walking right in front of the camera. The only way to stop them is if you do not subscribe to nest aware but then you can't record anything. For me, these two huge issues render these cameras useless.

The camera is great. Good quality & good app. But is useless if you don’t get the monthly subscription. It says you can go back up to 5 hours but it really doesn’t even do that. I subscribed to their 10 day plan that is on processing for a week. When called customer service they couldn’t help. Now I’m out of my return period and I have a pack of 3. :(

    DO NOT BUY

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

These cameras are completely useless without nest aware. Nest aware is at least $100 a year for the first camera and $50 each for the others. I bought the 3 pack and spent over $500 (including taxes). NOW I am required to pay $200 EVERY single year for the subscription. So as you can see the price of the cameras constantly increase. IF you do not want to pay for the nest aware you pretty much have a $200 camera sitting on your wall with no purpose. With out nest aware your camera will not record period. Your camera will take a snap shot of activity and send it to you, BUT most of the time it is a useless picture. The screen shot constantly captures the back of heads and a whole lot of NOTHING. I hate it I wish i could return it, but I am outside of my 15 return window -_-. DO YOUR RESEARCH! I would recommend spending a tad extra on a nice set opposed to the NEST because in the long run you are going to spend more on these nest cameras.

    Beware

$800 camera investment and $300 dollars a year in subscription costs and they still don’t work right. There is one contact number for this company and it goes to tech support, no customer service, no customer retention and no corporate contacts. Speaks volumes to the garbage they produce. They have been ‘working’ to fix my issue since March. They have since stopped replying to emails, don’t return calls and banned me from commenting on Facebook (really, what company does that) and only refunded partial subscription costs for ‘their’ server problem. Now they want you to believe they can do security systems....how about focusing on fixing the garbage you currently produce before you try to expand into other technologies.

    Save your money

Camera works great for the first 30 day trial period. However, had I known you have to pay a monthly fee to record video, I would have never bought it. $120.00 dollars extra per year just to record video is ridiculous. After the first 30 days you can only watch live or the camera takes a snap shot and sends a still photo to you. There are better systems that allow you to record to your hard drive. Wish I new it on the front end. I do not recommend this camera system unless you have money to spare for an annual subscription. They trick you with the free 30 day trial period and than most people cannot return items after 30 days and you are stuck with a camera that doesn't record without spending $120/year.

Beware! No replacement parts = disposable garbage

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

NestCams work great - unfortunately they don't provide any replacement parts. If you need something, such as a replacement base, you are out of luck. In my mind this makes the cameras a garbage product. I owned three of these and needed a replacement magnetic mount. Since they were out of warranty they completely refused to help. For the sake of a 50 cent part they lost my business ($600 in cameras) plus my membership ($15 plus a month) and my use of any google product forever. Bad business.

Not worth the money in long run

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I have over $1500.00 in this system. Wired would have been a lot cheaper and more reliable and able to watch history. I bought 5 cameras from Nest. Always had issues with outside units not connecting. Even bought a $300 wifi extender to fix. Still didn't help. You have to pay to have them record. If not you just get live cameras nothing more. So if something does happen. You can watch it live but to show to police or someone else forget about it. They wanted $300.00 a year to record these 5 cameras. You can buy a wire system for $300-500 dollars get years of recording and always be connected and not rely on wifi. If your wifi is slow. Guess what cameras don't work well either. I would never buy these cameras again Wireless they are not. You still need a power source to plug in. Electricians can cost more than installing a camera system

Constant WiFi connection issues, not worth it

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

In addition to this camera being pretty useless without the $120/year Nest Aware subscription, the constant WiFi disconnects make it useless even with the subscription. The Nest Cam is more sensitive to interference than any other WiFi product we have in the house. And when it disconnects, it stays disconnected for up to 1 hour at a time. This makes is unreliable if you're counting on it to be a security camera, or even worse, a baby monitor (which we had planned on using it for). I haven't tried it yet, but the Arlo cameras seem more compelling than the Nest Cam.
