The camera is okay, the mounting method leaves a lot to be desired using a magnet to keep it in place. Having to pay for a monthly subscription in order to see video history sucks. I would much prefer to have the video saved on my hard drive.

Works good. But nest aware has claimed they will have a new monthly subscription for all products in your home. Should be up by start of 2020. We’ll we’re already a quarter way through the year.

The App is flaky, therefore I don’t know if it’s the App or the Camera. Both should work seamlessly to provide the the results for which it was intended. I am disappointed!!!

This nest camera is great. But wish it had more features and a battery option. I don’t have any outlets close to where I’d like the camera to be mounted which made it very difficult to use it.

Pros: Good picture Cons: Expensive monthly plan for Nest Aware. Terrible night picture Had to drill a 3/4 hole to get the ferrite core through my siding and into my attic so I could plug it in Terrible mount. Worst design ever. Unable to get my camera to stay in the position I need it. The result, my picture is tilted. Called Nest for a resolution, unfortunately they told me I was out of luck.

Originally purchased this camera. After reading all of the details, there is a monthly fee for storing video clips on their "cloud". We returned it, and purchased the Arlo Q which stores 7 days of video clips for free

Seems like a great product, but I only have a CAT 5 wiring to my front door, and so I wasn't able to get it installed. I had a Nest professional installer look at it as well and he didn't know how to install it over CAT 5 wire.

Not worth it if not willing to subscribe to nest aware. After 30 days of nest aware trial it's almost useless - only thing you can see is a live feed. Would have returned if it wasn't past the 15 day BB return policy. I will try Arlo next - they have 7 days free cloud storage per reviews.

Cameras are adequate but fees are ridiculously high. Beware of plans because they tell you one thing when you are signing up but don't live up to their word. I own many Google products and I'm very disappointed in the way I've been treated. Will think twice before I purchase another Google product.

    So Easy and Very Good

    Posted .

I bought 3 of the Nest Outdoor Cameras, after having my car (in my driveway) broken into. They were extremely easy to put up for a DIY job. So far, these little cameras have out performed my expectations. Installation: it is very simple. My house is wood, so I only need to drill screws into my wooden house to hold the magnet plate and the wire plastic cord hangars, which is to secure the power cord to the house. Camera Setup: extremely easy. You only need to download the app on your smartphone and have an account setup. You take a picture with your phone of a QR code on the camera itself and its a step by step online process. Extremely easy. You do need to be careful to make sure do this inside your home--close to your wifi station. Once setup is complete then take the camera outside and make sure your wifi signal can still reach your camera. You might need to get an extension cord so you can plug it in and power on your camera. You can look on your phone to see if you are getting a live picture. If you don't get a signal then either you need to move your camera into a new location or get a wifi extender. Nest Aware Service: This is the recording and notification service that NEST offers as an option. It is not needed, but I would highly recommend trying it for 30 days for free. Once you try it, you definitely want to use it. It notifies you in notifications and or emails--to let you you know that the camera has spotted something or has heard something near your camera. You can set up "zones" so the camera will only notify you if something comes in that zone. You can also set up times that it will or will not notify you. Nest Aware is an additional cost---10 day (of history stored) or 30 day (of history stored). And its all stored in the cloud--so you don't need a storage device. After my 30 day trial is over, I will go with the 10 day option for all three of my cameras which cost me a total of $200/year (for all three--$100 first camera; $50 for second camera; $50 third camera----for the 10 day service option). However, this service is not needed but definitely is suggested. If you choose not to get the service then you can only watch live---not notifications or recording options. The Cameras: are simple to use and very good quality. You can also change the quality if need be, due to internet speeds. Night capabilities are ok but no the best. You still need a little light to see with. If you need more light, then a porch or outside light will go a long ways to see a lot better. The cameras do not move electronically. You have to manually set the cameras and they stay in that position until you move them with your hand again. But they have such a great wide view that they can see everything---so you really don't need to move them at all once you set it the first time. The two negatives: you have an ugly cord coming down from the camera and its not the easiest to hide in every situation. I used my gutters to hide the cord coming down the side of the house. You can also use some paint, to camouflage the cord coming from the camera as well to help in blend in as well. The second negative can be seen as a positive----the power cord is meant to plug straight into an outlet---which is great (positive). However, technically someone can come and unplug your camera if the plug is easy to get to (negative). Personally, I have a small crawl space with outlets, so I took my cords through my foundation vents and plug them into an outlet. This keeps people from easily unplugging my cameras. Overall: excellent camera, super easy setup and installation, and great options (no service, 10-day, or 30-day) for Nest Aware. The service allows for a lot of extras like notification, set time and space parameters, and the ability to record at least up to 10 days. Plus the Nest app makes it easy to do all this and to watch. Its actually becomes addicting to watch (I must have a boring life!). If you still aren't sure, buy one camera and see if you like it. They are a little pricey, but I can see why. I'm glad I bought them.

Good cameras. Main complaint is that when you zoom in on something, the quality becomes very distorted. Would recommend dishing out extra money for the IQ outdoor cameras instead.

Pretty good camera system, however, be aware that it uses quite a bit of bandwidth. This can come into play quickly if you are limited by your internet provider on upload and download totals. (Such as CableOne) In addition, the system only records, and stores up to the last 3 hours of activity unless you subscribe to "Nest Aware". Currently the price is around $150 per year (if paid on an annual basis) for one camera to store 30 days of activity. Additional cameras add to the cost of the service as well as bandwidth usage.

Hi samvelam, thanks for sharing your experience with us. We're sorry for the difficult experience you have with recording familiar faces on Nest Cam Outdoor.

Here’s how you can help your camera better tell the difference between the faces it sees:
      - Place your camera at head level or a little above. That way, it can see someone’s face even if they’re wearing a hat.
      - Review your familiar faces library on a regular basis during the first few weeks, especially after you add a new person. Promptly fix any face identification mistakes.
      - If you’re getting alerts for people who aren’t there, try pointing your camera away from any reflective surface. When your camera picks up someone’s reflection, there’s a chance it might send a notification about multiple people.

If the issue persists, we recommend that you reach out to our support team for further help. We'd love to assist you, if you can reach out to us via the Google Nest help page here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp Nest

This is a GREAT concept for a camera. We already have an indoor Nest Camera. The problem with the outdoor camera is that the cord is 25 feet long and cannot be adjusted to be shorter. I literally need about 2 feet of cord and have no place to "store" or hid the other 23 feet. Good try, Nest.
