Nice, but not for me
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Camera is made well. Very "Apple-like". Interface is ok. Picture during the day is ok. But for me a few deal stoppers. 1- Wireless requires not just a signal, but a really good signal for 1080p. I can get a mid bar strength at my outdoor locations, but Nest says its a weak signal and the cameras keep dropping offline. 2- bandwidth of having more than two cameras on the same wireless access point. I set up a different wireless network just for my security cams. I have ATT Gig service, so its not the pipe, but I rarely get the full 30fps. 3- Admin interface for a Paid Service should have more options for an Advanced User. Fine to have a basic interface for basic needs, but I would prefer a text overlay, and some other typical security settings as in FPS etc if I am going to pay $200-250 per year on 3-4 cameras. 4- Night picture I always found very "muddy". And in the day, the leaves on a tree or bush seem to mush in a blob. I have used other security cams in the past with Blue Iris or Security Spy software and have not had as much of an image quality issue. Short of it is, my 4x cameras are going back. I will look at POE wired solutions. Wireless, and the limited interface settings on a paid service, are a deal killer for me. Others it may work great, but not for me.

You get what you pay for
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Did a lot of research and hesitated between the convenience of no cables...(Arlo) and not replacing batteries (nest). Nest has continuous recording, and you can actually look at the cameras without being scared of depleting the batteries. Installation is straight forward provided you have an outlet nearby, better if outlet is outdoor. Pros: very good field. Ok resolution during the day. Outstanding night vision. Software is great. push alerts work very well. Cons: expensive, wired, nest aware is too expensive. There is a lag between an event and the notification (a couple seconds). Resolution could be a little better during the day.

Best on the market, but not for everyone
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Case and point: this camera is currently the best out there in terms of build quality, usability and network support. There are troves of IP cameras out there that are cheaper, but the question becomes: how easy is it to check up on the camera and get useful information from it? Since installing in a backyard a few months ago I was most surprised about the camera record quality. On a sunny day it clearly captures full 1080p video that can be watched from any of my mobile devices. At night, the quality is lower but probably just due to the fact that there isn't as much light input. Nest has a great ecosystem, which is huge to consider with this camera. Since all of the data uploads to their servers and is processed in real time for face alerts, etc, no data is at risk on site at home. This of course comes with a cost. The reason why this product might not be for everyone is that is is a PREMIUM subscription product. It costs about $100 a year for the data and alert services. To me, this is justifiable since it is uploading 24/7 at 1080p quality and Nest takes care of all of the data management and processing. I have never once had an issue with app connectivity. Overall, I would rather have a system that I pay for that works than one that is mediocre and requires tons of adjusting and babying. Lastly, I think this camera works so well because I have fiber internet. If you have a slow internet upload it just simply may not be clear or work. You really need a network that is capable of handling the constant uploading at HD quality. If you don't, I would be careful before considering this since all the data must be uploaded and cannot be saved locally. While I only have one camera currently I play to install about 4 more to the exterior of the house. The ease of use, quality and great user interface have really proven exceptional to me.

Great picture, nice looking, easy instal
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Got these for my front door and backyard and they work great.. If your a techy guy and a handy man install will be quick. I love the wide angle of these cameras. Yes you need a subscription recommend going with the yearly price slashes some of the price well worth it. Sound it catches is awesome plus being able to talk to people is a plus to scare away those dogs pooping in your yard.. recomend a good wifi system which is required. Highly recomend for all to keep your home safe..

Good Camera, when it is online, which is only 50%
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had this camera for about a year. I gave this two stars because the camera is great in day and night. I like the Nest app. However, as mentioned in other reviews, there is connectivity issues with this camera. I originally had a 200mbps internet plan, netgear CM1000 cable modem and netgear nighthawk R8000 wireless router. I have no issues with any other device on the network, including a nest doorbell, 10" nest hub max. I too spent extra money on upgrades (upgraded internet speed to 400 mbps and purchased a new nighthawk rax50 router and a netgear wifi extender even though i can get 80% signal strength at -45 dB in my neighbors house). I am hesitant buy another camera as I am not sure it will work as advertised. I did stop into Best Buy and they told me that there was no video because Nest Aware doesn't keep the recording when there is no activity, however, I purchased the 24/7 for 10 days recoding plan. I should have all video recorded for that time.

honest review
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.this is going to be a real review on the next camera. currently i have a nest thermostat and 2 nest smoke detectors. They all work FLAWLESSLY. When it comes to the cameras they need work. The cameras are good quality wise. When it comes to reliability they are very shaky as internet based cameras. I have a very "smart, automated house". I pay for 250 Mbps through my local provider. They are not the best but when it comes to the cameras they are the only thing in my house i have a problem keeping a constant internet connection to. Everything else in the house is always 100% working. The cameras disconnect a lot of the time and they will sent me a message saying they have been offline for at least 2-3 times a day. I have changed out my router my modem and everything trying to find a problem that is not the cameras. Ive even had friends buy this product that have differnt internet providers to see if it is just me and it is NOT. This has to be a problem on nests side. (Good luck getting ahold of their support!) I have spent 3 separate times on hold for 30 minutes unable to get anyone to help me. I have 2 cameras set up and its not just one it is both. They are both withing 15 feet of the router in the front and the back. My august smart lock is the same distance and ive never had any problems in the year i have had it. Would i recommend this product? Yes if you dont mind a total of 30 minutes a day being down. But for the price of the yearly fees they charge you shouldnt have to pay. i could expect this from a free service...but not a paid service. Hopefully there will be a future update to help but you never know!!

Impressed, works well!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Easy to install as we had an outdoor outlet. So it's great not to worry about batteries to recharge. Image quality is usually great except for the digital zoom which is not terrific. It was getting disconnected often when we bought it a few months ago but after the latest couple app updates, it seems to be working much better with very few disconnects... I have it streaming through my Google Home and it works like a champ.

Good but could be much better.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. At first glance the image quality is much better than most other cameras. However the way that the camera tries to save bandwidth is just bad idea for anything other than a live view of the beach or something that's not going to record important security incidents. I gets an actual image every few seconds and then tries to stream only pixels that have changed since the last full image that was taken. When this ends up being is a picture that may look crisp and sharp but anything that moves is pixelated. For example you would expect with the clairity of this camera to be able to easily identify a person but since people on camera are moving around, most of the images of peoples face are just pixelated blobs. If you call tech support they would give you the run around saying that the quality should be great at all times and that it must be my WiFi or lack of bandwidth. I'm currently using EERO mesh for my wifi witch has excellent coverage and available bandwidth as well as keeping the devices on channels free of interference. I'm getting about 600Mbps down and 60Mbps up over my wifi and I have gigabit internet. This happens with all 5 of my camera's and I see the same when viewing videos of other nest cam customers who post their video's on youtube.

Great product!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Love it? Purchased in 2018. Still works great. Night vision is clear. And I like that monthly subscribed service is on $6 for two devices per month. I connected both cameras to google nest home and stream the cameras 24/7.

Returned
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased these cameras based entirely on the good reviews here. My experience was quite different than most. Setup was straightforward. I have one camera installed in my backyard, the other on my front porch. Both cameras go offline very often and for extended periods, like anywhere from 20 to 45 minutes at a time. Sometimes they won't come back online at all without going out and physically unplugging the power cord to reset them. Calls to Nest Customer Support were worthless, unless you like spending an hour on the phone with a barely English-speaking script reader. Assuming that maybe my wi-fi signal was the issue, I spent three days troubleshooting. I even called my ISP and upgraded to their top-tier 250Mbps service. I also bought a Linksys wi-fi extender for another $100. The backyard camera is only 20' from my indoor router (a barely 1-year old LinkSys) and the wi-fi signal app I have on my smartphone says the signal is strong. I placed the wi-fi extender literally on the other side of a window where the front porch camera is installed - it is located only 3' from the front camera, separated only by a pane of glass. That signal from the extender is off the charts strong. Yet both cameras continue to drop signals and go offline. I've tried everything suggested in their myriad of troubleshooting guides, relocated them, even swapped their positions. Nothing is working. Even if these cameras are going offline due to signal issues (which I don't believe to be the case) why do they stay offline for 45 minutes?? And why won't they reconnect on their own with my having to unplug them? At this point, I don't believe these cameras could establish and maintain a wi-fi connection if I glued them to my router. Very disappointed, considering their cost and mostly positive reviews. I'm returning these to Best Buy - I hope you have better luck than I did.

Issues with connection to WiFi
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve bought two of these two packs, two for the back and two for the front and for some reason the two in the front just do not want to connect. I’ve had them for 2 years and no luck! But the two in the back work perfectly

High Quality Cam with Major Drawback
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had my two outdoor Nest Cams installed for about a month and am impressed with the very nice picture quality both in daylight and at night. I particularly like the ability to set up multiple alert zones within a frame and also adjust when notifications are sent to phone and/or email. However, my major disappointment is the camera's inability to adjust the sensitivity of when an alert is triggered and a notification is sent. Despite carefully setting up targeted zones I constantly get notifications triggered by shadows, headlights & reflections. Consequently, I tend to ignore the alerts because they come so frequently. Tech support advised that there is no way to adjust camera's sensitivity for these distractions other than setting up zones where no shadows or reflections or headlights would shine. This is virtually impossible outside. If notifications are not an issue for you, this is a great product.

Great camera, when it works.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The picture quality is great during the day, and pretty good at night. My biggest issue is with the cameras internet connectivity feature. Placement of camera is a difficult task in itself because of all the limitations: short power cord, out of direct sunlight, within reach of router, and a power outlet that is either locked or indoors. By the time we found a place for it and mounted, we found that the connection is very iffy and it loses connection about 13 times a day, sending a notification every time. I just learned to ignore the notifications after a while. I hope no one actually cuts the cord or unplugs the camera to steal it, because I would likely ignore the notification of the camera going offline (because it’s like the camera who cried wolf) and realize much later that my camera is actually gone.

Software Bugs
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Originally, happy with the quality of the hardware, but the operating software has problems they have not fixed after a month. You can not log on to your account reliably using Google Chrome, or Edge. I found Mozilla would work. One of the cameras would not pair on wifi. When it did, it would only operate in a limited mode. NEST Customer service said it was defective and they would send me a new one. Hardware: The power cable had a clumsy locking collar that made it difficult to connect to my computer for troubleshooting. You had to pull all of your USB connectors to allow the cable to be plugged in. For an outdoor security camera, a magnetic mount should only be an optional way to mount it. I could accept the other short comings, but when I was told one of the cameras was defective, I returned both. For an outdoor camera, I would want rugged hardware. This camera passed quality checks at NEST
