    Ok product.

Today I had an interesting issue. I linked nest cam and hue lights and enabled option where lights turn on, when nest detects motion in the dark. And that is not working. I contacted nest support, and explained the problem. Support routinely tried options like deleting and creating link between nest and hue, wanted me to reboot nest cam! etc... and nothing worked. Support suggested to contact hue support, as light is not their product. I told support that it works with ifttt, but not with nest, works with nest. I might be wrong, in my opinion it might be a nest issue. This is because, third party triggering(ifttt) hue seems to work. But not with nest here. And if I reach philips, what stops them saying it is a nest problem? Inter operation is a cool idea. But, when issues arise dropping ball is a grave. When articles/nest website boast that nest has a platform and certifies a product, shouldn't they plan cross customer support? Or leave it to customer to run among customer supports of various products? In that case does 'works with nest' really works? Continues recording is needed for certain location in my home. I am charged for the storage, which I kind of agree. Ideally I prefer local storage for continues recording, and alert with a snippet of video on motion detection. I couldn't find a product like that. I still recommend the product for some one who is looking for continues recording as the hardware is good so for, but software not great.

    not dependable!

After having my 2 nest outdoor cams for 3 weeks, here are the pros and cons: Pros: 1.Very clear picture 2. Can use 5ghz band resulting in less interference from other devices on my and neighbor’s 2.4ghz wireless bands. Cons: 1.Reviewing saved videos with the Nest iOS and Apple TV 4 apps is terrible! Although I have high-speed internet service, I constantly get the “spinning wheel” buffering symbol while waiting for a video to open. The videos infrequently open and I have to close the app and reopen it to get it to even attempt to load them again. The saved video files can only be reliably opened and/or edited by using the Nest Aware feature (paid subscription) within a browser on a computer. 2.The video can only be viewed and stored with any decent resolution by using the Nest Aware paid subscription. There are instructional videos on the internet that will show you how to use various security camera computer applications to view, save and store your recorded nest cam videos locally to your home computer, but be aware that if you use one of the said programs, the bitrate will only be around 30kbps and frame rates will be between 7 and 9 fps-resulting in poor quality video. There is no way to change either of the rates to improve the quality. Therefore, Nest leaves their subscription as the only true option. A hole of 7/8” inch minimum is required to pass the power cord through a wall.

Ok little camera, seems to work well. I do wish it was battery-operated though. It was a pain to run electricity to the camera. But overall it's okay.

These are great cameras, but you have to have AC power for them. It would be great if they were battery powered.

The camera constantly goes offline. I get several emails during the day that the camera is offline. My parents and friends get the same results. We have nest doorbells that have never gone offline. This is a Nest Cam Outdoor issue. Not internet or wifi connectivity. Please fix. Your products are too expensive to work like this.

I Understand Why The Price Dropped 42%

This is clearly a transitional product that escaped before it was released. 1. You can knock the camera off its magnetic base with a stick. Nest will tell you that the culprit will be photo i'd when this happens (unless he wearing a hoodie). Ok so now I feel good? 2. Power cord design is clunky targeting the trailer park market, given the same power requirements as an iPhone its amazing this is the best they could come up with? 90% of the people who will buy this product will have a internal power source and really should not have to drill a 1" hole in the wall to make that solution work. 3. Even though this uses the same guts as the nest indoor cam it seems the wifi antennae in the unit are compromised and not as effective due to the steel enclosure. In summary I am taking this back and testing the Nest Outdoor IQ to see if they have addressed these shortcomings. By the way, the nest iq is $150 more.

We're sorry to hear of the issues you are experiencing with the Nest Cam Outdoor. While it may not seem like a good mounting for the camera, we did have several that were still hanging correctly after hurricanes Harvey and Maria. The hole size is due to the USB connection size. With the Nest Cam IQ Outdoor, we changed the design to a smaller plug. Also, the Nest Cam Outdoor is actually in a composite housing, which should not interfere with the Wifi signal. Nest

    Awesome camera

I have four of these outside my house. I took the chance and left them outside during hurricane Harvey. They didn't budge one bit. Other than the occasional shutting off from power blinks, these cameras stayed running the whole time and didn't get moved or blown away by hurricane winds. I will recommend these cameras to everyone I know

    Google Ruining Nest

The Quality of the Camera's are great we have three. However since Google has taken over Nest has gone downhill. They ended up cancelling our nest aware subscription since they say they had a problem processing the payment supposedly. They notify you on your gmail account Only which I set up for my 86 year old father and he never checks it, they don't notify you within the App. The only way you find out is when it stops working. You can only chat with Google Support no other support method and they can only verify you by your google e-mail address. If you manage a few gmail addresses they can't verify you. I looked at our payment method on the account and it was valid. The nest cam went up to 6 bucks a month for each camera so they apparently wanted us to renew it at a higher price by cancelling our subscription, they also permanently deleted all of the recordings that were saved. A few were being saved for Law Enforcement purposes. Google is running this product into the ground with a facebook type attitude towards customers, no support and questionable business practices. I recommend going to a non-subscription product where you don't have to deal with this type of non-sense. Without the subscription it's basically worthless. People really need to send a clear message to these type of companies.

    Two camera issues

I purchased a two camera unit on their website. After trying to install the second camera their customer support stated they do have an issue with the second camera not syncing properly. It is a known issue they were willing to send another camera to me to fix the issue but I believe this product should work right out of the box. I had to pay to send it back as they would not pay for the return shipping. That was after two days of waiting for an answer from customer service to see if I could even return it. Severely poor customer service.

I called Nest it took 45 minutes to talk to someone that was of no help. I own 6 Nest products and will never buy another. The cameras video quality is good during day but you cannot discern what someone looks like at night, the time you need the most. Installation is with a magnet, camera is not fixed so anyone can steal it. Nests response was at least you will see who is stealing it. Well only if its during the day. Monitoring costs $100 a year not worth the money.

    Don't Fall For It

When i bought the two pack system i was told that you only had to buy storage space if you want to save 10 or more days of video. I checked all over the box and there was NOTHING that said you have to pay monthy/yearly fees. As soon as I placed the cams around my house I noticed that the picture was great, but the speaker is not loud enough for anyone to make out what your saying, the app is slow and reloads a lot, and they disconnect at least once a day. I have checked my router, wifi settings and have 50 mbps, but they still disconnect. Also, what they dont tell you is without their Nest Aware package ($150 yr for two cams) the cams are pretty much useless. You can Not play back, save video, or customize motion settings. I would definitely NOT recommend this product to anyone.

I can’t understand why these are so highly rated. When they work, they’re good, and they’re easy to set up, but unfortunately they work INCONSISTENTLY. I’ve had dozens of events with people CLEARLY coming and going from my property and the camera fails to capture anything. I’ve had cars pull directly into my driveway and the cameras fail to record it. Sometimes they work fine but FREQUENTLY they totally fail. Nest’s customer service is lousy. They tell you to update the app and then disappear. The cameras have been worse since migrating to google. They are constantly going offline. Sometimes multiple times an hour. I often wake up in the morning, to find my camera stopped working in the middle of the night. I have three of these cameras and they cause so much frustration. When they works they’re great, but they FAIL to record significant events every single day. Save yourself the hassle. BUY A DIFFERENT CAMERA SYSTEM.

BEWARE Got Locked out of my Account

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Purchased a pair of outdoor Nest Wi-Fi cameras and was setting them up for the first time. Received an error message from the Nest website and re-started the install. Suddenly, the site would not accept my password. Tried to re-set it and the site said Account not Found, however, In another attempt it said "User already exists". So I exist in their system but can't reset my password. So I called Customer Service and they said I had to wait 48 hours for them to re-set my account! What? I didn't even set up these camera yet and got locked-out for 48 hours. No option for a re-set from NEST. Nope, that's the way it is you need to accept it and By the Way, "Sorry for the inconvenience". I own these cameras, but you are at the mercy of NEST deciding when they decided to re-set your account to get these cameras to function. What am I waiting 2 days for? They also said if the account is attempted to be accessed in this 48 hour period, the 48 hour cycle begins again which basically means that if I don't wait MORE than 48 hours, the CLOCK STARTS ALL OVER AGAIN. All customer service would do is offer me a free month of subscription service for my inconvenience... That might be worth something if after all this, I actually decided to keep them. Why would I want to engage in a long-term relationship with NEST? Not worth someone telling me I need to wait a company imposed "mandatory" amount of time to use my own product. Definitely not worth it. and returning for a refund.

    Terrible Servers, Overpriced Service

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The Nest servers are absolutely terrible, unfortunately for Amazon, they use AWS servers. Nest customer service has a bad habit of accusing customers that it's their wifi setup. We're using Google's Wifi Mesh with 4 points and have stellar coverage throughout our home and backyard and the cameras still skip and spin and show low quality a lot of times, even though I can stand right next to a camera with a phone on wifi and get speed tests of 175/25 easily, 25mbps should be plenty sufficient for a camera to upload in at least 720p but it can barely do that. The Nest Home website (home.nest.com) is terrible on a computer, zooming in and out doesn't work half the time when you try to enhance the video and a lot of times you just see a spinning icon. Things seem to run smoother on my phone but no matter which broswer I use on my gaming PC, it just seems to have trouble. Nobody likes to continue spending money after they've already purchased a product and the Nest Cam practically becomes useless after the Nest Aware trial expires unless you spend $10 a month to keep it. You can only see a photo shot of an activity that occurred within the last 4 hours without the subscription but that's it, zero video storage. Nest should either develop software that users can install on a PC that can record the video on their own device or provide at minimum 24 hours of live video history for free. I love nest products but do not buy it unless you plan on spending an extra $10-$20 a month for Nest Aware.
