    Having problems now

When I first got the camera's I thought they were the best but now I see the problems. Teenagers are harassing me but it doesn't zoom enough nor is it clear to see. The computer programs doesn't work, it won't let you get into the other widows to make videos. I have been on hold waiting for tec support for over 20 minutes with this music loop going on over and over again. Trying to make videos on the app is impossible - it jams, it doesn't stop where you want it do, doesn't start where you want it to so getting on the computer has been the easier way to get to the data. Now it's not working, you can't get beyond the dashboard, i guess atleast you can get that. Problems more to do with the ability to access the data on the computer and use it. If you can't make the videos and save or share, it's no longer of value. Not good, of course this started a day or so after i signed up for the service since my trail period was up. Maybe recommend to friend - unfortunately it's only yes or no

    Disappointed with outdoor cameras

I have had problems with the nest outdoor cameras going offline frequently. I've spoken to several tech support reps,at Nest, tried all of their suggestions and spent money upgrading my router and bandwidth signals. I shouldn't have my cameras all night. Purchase at your own risk.

Great camera easily compromised and stolen

I installed this camera under a garage carport at the highest point that I could ( a little over 8.5 feet). The way the camera is made it is virtually impossible to protect the cord from being cut. Most cameras you can tuck the wiring behind the mount and have it fed from a hole cut in the wall. Due to the design of this camera you cannot do that. To compensate I ran electrical conduit up to about 7.5 feet thinking somebody would need a ladder to cut it. Well guess what they used a ladder or something to cut it cleanly and stole the camera. They say you can secure it with clips. Those are easily compromised as well. Here is a picture of the theft. Not sure what their end game was, but they wanted the camera. This is in a relatively high traffic low crime area.

    Check Wifi router disclaimer

I have indoor and outdoor versions of this product installed at my home. They have been running for over a month. Initial performance was excellent. However, several of the cameras will not maintain a wifi connection now. No other wireless devices in my home have this problem. The product documentation available on-line details many router compatibility issues.

great if you don't need details

Make sure you do your homework before purchasing a security cam!!!!! I didn't and I ended up with this due to good reviews from people who do not know security. This has 1920 horizontal pixels. You need 80 pixels per foot to ID a license or person. If you do the math with this wide angle lens you will find that at 6ft from the lens you will be under that pixel per foot mark, making license plates and facial features unidentifiable beyond 6ft. The problem is the wide angle lens. Everyone thinks that is great, but it is NOT GOOD if you need detail. I had a porch pirate take a package practically from under the camera and ended up with no useable info for the police. He even backed his car into the driveway! Couldn't read the plate.

The first rain has come after installing this camera outdoors, guess what happens?... After getting wet the camera no longer works. I've dried out the camera, removed the camera from the Nest app then attempted to add/reconnect the camera. It still does not work, no light no sound, NOTHING!!! It's a shame. I am starting to question whether Nest tested this camera under ideal situations.

Above average Nest user - Cannot recommend

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I have several Nest products in my home, the thermostat and multiple fire/CO2 detectors. Both of these products I would recommend and give 5 star ratings. This camera is not on the same level as their other products. I purchased this camera with the intentions of being notified when there is activity on my property. I have one zone set up that covers all of my property seen on camera from 10 feet away from the street, up to my door. I get approximately 10 notifications a day about a car driving down the street (not part of my zone), yet when a package gets delivered or a coyote is standing in my driveway I get no notifications. I have been working with Nest support for 6 months now (this is not an exaggeration) and they cannot figure it out. I send them screenshots, video clips, copies of emails on a weekly basis. I have about 25 hours in troubleshooting this with them. I have asked to just get a refund and be done but they will not extend an offer for refund. I was told that even though notifications work well for most, I am one of many customers that they just cannot seem to tweak the code correctly for. Save yourself the risk of being a stat like me and choose a different product. Again, this is coming from someone that is a strong advocate of Nest Thermostats and Detectors.

Don’t waist your money or time on these!

I’ve had these for a few years now, they use to be decent cameras until google bought nest! Since then I’ve had NOTHING but problems!! I live in a bad area! And I NEED to be able to keep an eye on my vehicle! But I can’t do that because I’m constantly dealing with frozen images, and being disconnected from my cameras, or I can’t even connect at all when it’s most important! I’ll never buy another nest product again! I’m sitting outside in the cold right now watching my truck because none of my cameras are connecting! And that includes my indoor nest camera that’s right next to my router! Do not waist your time or money with nest cameras! I’m throwing these in the garbage! Put your money into something that’s actually reliable, unlike these junk cameras!

I liked the picture but thats about it. You can buy so many cameras that save the recordings even for a short amount of time. At $150 Ill stick with DLINK, I can record to a memory card, get email updates and send it to my NAS or hard drive. Amazing they charge for recording. Id even be happy with 24 hours.

Our Nest Aware service is designed to record video history captured and save it to our cloud storage. This ensures that if someone were to attempt to break in or remove the Nest Cam, the footage would not be lost. Since there is no physical device in place on the Nest Cam to store the footage, there is nothing that can be taken or destroyed to prevent the footage from being seen by those who need to. Nest

    Good Camera, Terrible Cable Design

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Camera images are fine as long as it is in the wifi range. But, the bummer was 7/8" USB connector that the camera uses. If you want to power this outdoor camera from inside the house, you have to drill a 7/8" hole in your wall. Ouch. I am not sure how product designers couldn't think about this problem. Who wants to power a security camera from outdoor wall plug, where it can easily be tampered with. Can't they just add a thinner pluggable connector? This bad design takes away everything that is good in this camera...

A few good things but more unacceptable bad

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

My experience with two nest outdoor cameras has been extremely disappointing. These cameras are far from perfect! Get ready to see your video feed buffing a lot! And my network gets a solid 8 MB of upload when I stand right under the cameras! If you ever need to change your Wi-Fi get ready to disconnect your camera and bring it inside and hook it up to your computer. For me that’s totally unacceptable! My installation was tip top with no wire showing outside. Which means crawling through attic space to unplug a camera to bring it inside to just change the Wi-Fi? I say BOGUS!

    Limited range of ambient temperatures

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The published limits on ambient temperature for the camera exclude low temperatures (<32F) commonly occurring in Midwestern and Northeastern winters and high temperatures (>104F) commonly occurring in Southwestern and Inland California summers . Operating the camera out of this temperature range (32F to 104F) may render the Nest warranty invalid and/or impair proper functioning. The good news is that Nest agreed with my concern and issued a post-paid shipping label for returning the camera. Eventually, Nest will probably fix this problem. For now, don't buy the camera if you live in these geographical areas.

    Night motion detection

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

If you are buying this item for night vision motion detection, buy something else. We ended up returning ours. You have to be within 5 to 8 feet of the camera for it to pick up something. What a joke. And if you turn on a light you still have to be within about 10 feet. It also did not notify you every time it picked up motion. The Nest doorbell is considerably better which we like a lot. They need to put that system in their indoor security camera. The Nest Doorbell picks up motion at night over 30 feet from the house.

    Useless and Unusable in Court

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

You pay the high price for the Cam + Nest Aware to record clips and timelapses to record crimes, scenes, and evidences. The mp4 files have no value in court. They don't show what day is recorded nor the time. Completely useless!! Also, the nest app has by far the poorest quality design. The cursor and the clip selector do not feedback the date, so you never know which date you are selecting for the clip. It is very hard to navigate through the timeline. The limit of 3h clips is outraging considering that Nest Aware is $300/y, in addition to paying the equipment.

I bought this not knowing I would be REQUIRED to have a nest account. Not only that but you cannot even pull a stream off of your own network. It goes straight to nest servers where no matter where you access it from....you will be watching a jerky web video. NO THANKS!

Had the cameras installed yesterday. The free trial for nest aware was enabled on only 3 of 7 cameras. Was on with customer service for 45 min and was assured it was fixed. Waited 2 hours, not working. Called back, waited, got disconnected, called back, was on hold for 1 hour and one minute..disconnected. Called back (yes I am this stupid) yet again.....more hold time. Still no response. Buy the Arlo Pro 2 and don’t deal with these people

Good camera, "nest aware" service and support bad

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I have two of these cameras. the main issue is Nest Aware is required to make these cameras useful. The problem is the Nest Aware service frequently has problems "pairing" with the actual cameras. So you buy the camera and pay for the service but they don't work together. Then you contact support and they can't fix it. It's half baked and ridiculous.
