    Notifications dont work correctly

I have 2 cameras still being used by the Nest app, the new gen 2 doorbell requires Google Home app. I upgraded/nstalled last weekend and the video preview on the notifications does not work properly. So every notification you receive will just be showing the outside of your house not of the person, animal, etc that triggered the notification. So literally for every notification if you want to see what happened you need to open the app. And yes, my notifications work, in my notifications you can see leaves moving on plants etc. Its like the notifications dont know which part of the recorded "action" it should sent to the notification. Will give google a few weeks to fix this or I will have to return it and re-purchase the gen 1 wired that works with the Nest app. Do not buy this until you have seen reviews where people have indicated notifications are working.

Hi there Sj24, thanks for choosing our Google Nest products. We're sorry to hear about your disappointment with the images for the notification feature of your Nest Doorbell (Wired, 2nd Gen). We value your feedback and we'll make sure to pass this along to our product team since we're always searching for ways to improve our products and services.

Motion detection on Nest Doorbell (Wired, 2nd Gen) can be affected by changes in the light level, and shadows moving across the frame like when a cloud moves in front of the sun. This also includes other movements within the camera's field of view like trees or bushes swaying. To further improve your alerts or notifications, we recommend trying out the steps below:
      1. Change the Activity Zones on your camera. You can delete your existing Activity Zone and create a new one in any area within your camera's field of view. Just make sure that none of the zones you create overlap.
      2. Change the angle of your camera and account for the lighting in the surrounding area.
      3. Restart your Camera.

We're still hopeful that you will reconsider and keep using your Nest Doorbell (Wired, 2nd Gen). For any other questions you may have, you're always welcome to contact our support team here:  https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp Nest

When it comes to installation, nothing like the old model. Very hard to install. Doorbell chimes has different wires, etc. If I had known that I would have looked at other brands as well since it's like starting over again. Also, the new model is much bigger and an eyesore that some HOA's may be opposed to. The app doesn't work well either. They migrated over to a new app platform and now I have two doorbells on different apps.

Hi there, JasonM. We’re glad that you find the Nest Doorbell (wired, 2nd gen) with decent quality, and we hear your concern about its battery life. If your doorbell is detecting a lot of activities, adjusting the doorbell settings such as video quality, length of video clips, time between recorded events, and using activity zones to monitor specific areas can extend its battery life. This link can help: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/10901611

If you think the battery life is lower than expected even after adjusting the device settings, we can help you check for other reasons why the doorbell is behaving differently. Hello there, JerryS. Thanks for the feedback, and we’re sorry to hear you ran into a connectivity issue with your Nest Doorbell (wired, 2nd gen).

A range issue or wireless interference can affect the connectivity of your doorbell. Sometimes it may pass the connection test during setup, but will struggle to stay connected. Your camera may be out of range due to weak signal, and wireless interference can give you trouble connecting Nest products or other wireless devices. It can also cause slow network communications or intermittent disconnections. So your Nest products might continuously disconnect and reconnect, or they may be slow to respond to app control. For more help, read Troubleshooting wireless interference here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9276282

Hi Jobbi, thanks for still choosing our Google Nest products, even after your older Nest Doorbell stopped working after 5 years. We're also glad to hear that you liked the video quality of Nest Doorbell (Wired). However, we're sorry to hear that the move to the Google Home app from the Nest app, didn't quite meet your expectations.

We wanted to make the Google Home app as the one place where you can control all your favorite Nest devices and other smart home devices with the Google Assistant. Here are some benefits you can get by using the Google Home app with your Nest Cam (Indoor, Wired):
      - Automatic security protections such as Suspicious activity detection, 2-Step Verification and Security Checkup.
      - Your Google Nest devices and services will work together. For example, if you have a Nest Cam and a Nest Hub, just say, ""Hey Google, show me the backyard camera” to cast your camera stream to your display without any additional setup.
      - One account to sign into both the Nest and Google Home apps.
      - Your homes and home members will be aligned across the Nest and Google Home apps.
      - If you're willing, you may set up your Nest cameras to the Google Home app. Check out this help article: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9893532

This would have been easy to install if it weren't for our builders putting glue on the previous doorbell. Other than that, it's excellent! The picture is better than the previous generation. Also, it would be best if you put in the additional extender on the box for houses with stone.

Normally this would receive a high rating. However, when buying a gen 2 doorbell, it can ONLY connect to Google Home, not the wonderful legacy Nest app. You really screwed this up Google. Now when replacing older Nest products, it can ONLY go on Google Home according to the Google tech support. Yup, that’s why this gets a pathetic 1 star rating.

Upgraded(?) gen1 to this gen2. The nest app is now useless and you must use google home. The notifications that are sent the phone does not give the correct preview of what actually triggered the notification. So when you recieve an alert, you have to actually open google home and play the video back. I’ll return if not corrected.

Unlike the previous version, there's no Smart Device Management API access. That means you can't do anything with it outside of the Google ecosystem. You'll also suffer from limited features unless you purchase their cloud subscription. It's an ecosystem trap product.
