Major downgrade from 1st version.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall it is a Major downgrade from first version. If you never had first version you will probably like it but beware if you are going from 1st to 2nd. Resolution and Aspect Ratio is the most noticeable downgrade. To bad major retailers dont sell 1st version anymore.

Posted .Hello there, IvanC. Thanks for sharing insights about the Nest Doorbell (wired, 2nd gen). We're sorry to hear that your experience didn't meet your expectations.
Unlike some other video doorbells, Nest Doorbell (wired, 2nd gen) has a 145° diagonal field of view at 3:4 aspect ratio. It is intended so you can see people from head to toe, and packages left on the ground. While the newer model offers improved features like increased resolution, better night vision, and a sleeker design, we acknowledge the trade-off in field of view. We're constantly evaluating user feedback and exploring ways to optimize future models to balance desired features with a wider field of view. In the meantime, you may be able to adjust the viewing angle slightly within the Home app settings for better coverage depending on your porch layout. Or if possible, consider mounting the doorbell slightly higher or at a slight angle to capture a wider area.
If you need any help with the features of the Nest doorbell, you can visit the Google Nest Help Center or contact us anytime here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp

Frustrating
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. No support for nest app. So now I need 2 apps to see my cameras . Only Google could make a nest camera that doesn't work in their nest app. Their old cameras don't fully work in the Google home app and their new cameras don't work in the nest app

Posted .Hi Redman, thanks for sharing your feedback on Nest Doorbell (wired, 2nd gen). We can imagine how having to use two different apps can be an inconvenience for you. We’re aware that longtime Nest users enjoy having the option to view the Nest camera feeds from the Nest app or web or web app. However, our priority is to create an integrated experience with other Nest and smart home devices. While the new Nest cameras and doorbells are exclusive to the Google Home app, users with previous versions of Nest cameras, like you, can view your camera feeds in the Google Home app alongside the new Nest Doorbell and Nest Cams.
We request for your patience as we’re working on a seamless solution to create a better user experience. Meanwhile, we suggest having the latest version of the Google Home app that may improve camera playback controls to make it easier to play, pause, and navigate between events from the camera history view for cameras set up in the Google Home app. And if you need help with any concerns about the performance and functionality of the camera, You're always welcome to let us know here and we’ll gladly help you the best we can: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp

Unreliable!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Google Nest Doorbell is completely and utterly unreliable. The camera freezes when it begins recording audio and video. As a result, only the first second or two is recoded which is not nearly enough to see if there is a welcomed guest or it is an intruder. Moreover, if the doorbell is used, the video either freezes or goes to a black screen. To make matters worse, the audio produces an obstructive echo that makes communication useless with the individual at the door. All in all, this device is unmistakenly worthless!

MAJOR FLAW for security
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Video clips of events are automatically generated or if someone presses the doorbell. But if something occurs where the Google does not think is an "event", a clip is not created. A car was stolen off the street right in front of the camera but since it did not "flag" it as an "event", I am not able to download the clip to submit to the police. This is an available feature on the old Nest app, but if you're forced to use the Google Home app with this product, you will find out too late like many other people complaining in the Google Community forums that this has been an issue for a while.

Posted .Hello there, EugeneK. We appreciate your feedback on Nest Doorbell (wired, 2nd gen). It’s unfortunate to hear about the experience you had during an incident.
We suggest checking your camera settings as event detection depends on settings that you select. You can choose which events your doorbell can detect and record (people, motion, package, etc.). From there, you (and each member of your home) can decide which of those events to get notifications for. If an event is turned off, you won’t get notifications for that kind of activity. You can also change the settings like adjusting video quality, wake-up sensitivity, length of video clips, time between recorded events, and using activity zones to monitor specific areas.
Furthermore, you may need to check for any range issue or wireless interference that can affect the overall performance of your camera. Sometimes the device may pass the connection test during setup, but will struggle to stay connected if it’s just a bit too far away from your router. You may also check for objects such as mirrors and refrigerators between the doorbell and your router as these items could block the connection. Notification previews are useless
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Similar to other reviews on here, the notifications do not show the actual subject that triggered the notification in the first place. Translation: “person seen” notifications with previews that show my empty porch when I press and hold the notification (rather than the person standing on my porch). Spent 2 hours on the phone with Google support and now they’re sending me a new one. Seems like there are some bugs to iron out. Now I’m questioning my upgrade from the Nest Hello (gen 1) wired doorbell.

Posted .Hi Chris, thanks for taking the time to share your feedback. We're sorry to hear that you are having some delays with notifications with your Nest Doorbell (Wired).
Nest Doorbell (Wired) determines when something moves based on how much an image changes over a short period of time. So, your camera may not send an alert if the following is true:
- The activity is out of your camera’s field of view.
- An object is blocking the camera’s view.
- The camera is very far away from the activity.
- The lighting in the scene is dim or washed out.
We recommend moving your camera, change your camera’s angle, or change something in the scene so that you don’t miss important activity. If your camera detects a lot of activity in a specific area (for example, a busy sidewalk), you can create a zone and set notifications for activity outside the zone only. If you set notifications for activity outside the zone, it can help when you get too many camera alerts but don’t want to turn notifications off completely. Here's a detailed guide you can follow in setting up activity zones: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9207697

Posted .Hi there, RubenU. Thanks for the feedback. We’re sorry to hear that your experience with the Nest Doorbell (wired, 2nd gen) is below ideal.
Checking the doorbell settings can help. You can choose which events to trigger recordings (people, motion, packages, etc.) and use activity zones to focus on specific areas. Also, there are different factors that can affect the Night Vision. Try to angle your doorbell away from bright lights, or to install it in a shady spot. You should also make sure that any nearby surfaces or objects (like a wall) are out of view, since the doorbell’s infrared light can reflect off a surface. You can also try the simple steps outlined at the following link: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9259738

Posted .Hello there, MarioA. Thanks for the feedback you shared about the Nest Doorbell (wired, 2nd gen). Nest has long been focused on delivering quality products and giving value for the price to our customers, including three hours of event history right out of the box for the first time ever. On-device processing also gives our customers smart alerts and Activity Zones, which historically have required a subscription. While there's no fee to stream full resolution live video and receive basic notifications, you’ll need a Nest Aware subscription to receive advanced features.
