Nest Doorbell

You just need to make sure the existing doorbell transformer can handle this. Setup was a breeze and the user interface is very easy and user friendly. I just wish you could view the videos in the nest app as we have the thermostat and smoke detectors.

My last Nest doorbell quit working unexpectedly and I was hesitant to get a new one because of the trouble I had installing the first one but the instructions were clear and it was as easy as just disconnecting the old doorbell and connecting the new one.

It consistently ranked as number one, or in the top three in multiple publications, and so did the Nest indoor / outdoor cameras. I purchase both and my family is very happy with the quality and ease of use.

I did not purchase extra storage so it only captures imagines for limited time - but you could purchase additional storage with subscription. Very easy to use and alerts when packages arrive.

Free video recording, even when power is out, and on board storage instead of just relying on the cloud. Better housing design. Different colors to choose from to match your aesthetic/theme of house. But there is also big cons, the camera quality has gone down. Even though it is 1080P, google states it is better because of HDR processing. Looks good on paper, not a display. The veiwing angle has also gone down. So plan on purchasing a aftermarket wedge in order to get the best angle in most cases. I do like googles smart devices, but maybe the next one will be an actual upgrade. Ok for the price and features.

The video quality settings lets you choose how much of your internet connection gets used by your Google Nest camera or doorbell to stream live video. The higher the quality setting is, the more bandwidth is used. When you pick a video quality setting, you’re picking the quality of the live video stream and the quality at which the video gets recorded and saved. You won’t be able to go back and watch your saved video at a higher video quality. Here’s how:
- Open the Home app Google Home app.
- Touch and hold your device's tile.
- At the top right, tap Settings .
- Choose Video.
- Under “Video quality,” choose Max or High.

It plugged straight into the wall with it! It has been recording anything that moves in view. I just wish the web view had better filtering. Aside from that, it does its job well!

The camera is very sharp and integrated seamlessly with Google Home and the Google Displays. The existing chimes do not work but it may be because the transformer is undersized.

Posted .Hey there, RWP216. We’re glad that you find the Nest Doorbell (wired, 2nd gen) great. It’s unfortunate to hear of your experience with using the device along with your existing chimes. A traditional doorbell system uses very little power, but Nest Doorbell (wired, 2nd gen) has specific power requirements so the camera can continuously record video, so make sure that the transformer (power supply) meets the specific power requirements. It needs to be connected by wires delivering 16 - 24 V AC, and at least 10 VA (in North America) or 12 - 24 V AC and at least 8 VA (in Europe).
