Install was easy and simple, the videos shown make it easy. Sets up in the Nest app just like anything else. Still trying to figure out how to get my google home and home mini to ring when somebody approaches.

    Not worth the cost

Overall the product itself is very good; however the cost to purchase this product and other devices is just the beginning. If you have experience in owning or purchasing other Nest camera products, they charge you for data storage for each individual device, not one account fee. Conveniently they give you a trial period that exceeds most return policies. It's disheartening because there are a lot of other products out there that won't cost you the equivalent of a monthly monitoring fee from a home security company. I would highly recommend other products that do not charge such high fees to review footage for 5 days or longer.

    Notification Delays

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I am so sorry that I purchased the store bill. If I hadn’t paid to have it installed, I would’ve returned it. The notification delays are ridiculous. Someone could be there and gone before you get the notification. In doing some research, I see that this has been a problem with the nest hello for a long time. Certainly not how it’s described in its advertisements. I expected the notifications to be almost instant and they are not. I would not purchase again. I tried calling customer service to no avail.

    Stay well away

Save your money and save yourself lots of aggravation, and buy from a company that actually supports their products and customers after the sale. I bought this less than a year ago, along with a Nest Aware subscription for video storage. I was a very loyal Google user (Android phones, Chrome, a range of other Nest devices and other products in the Google Assistant ecosystem) so I decided to get this even though competing brands were cheaper and offered cheaper services for video storage. For the first several months everything worked ok. Then I woke up one morning to an email letting me know my Nest Aware subscription had been cancelled. Nest/Google says they didn't cancel it, and I know I didn't either, but that's not the problem. I told the "customer support" rep that I didn't care why it had been canceled, I just wanted to reactivate it. He sent me a link for a "New" Nest Aware subscription which turned out to be more expensive and only offered storage of "events" (as detected by the camera) instead of continuous recording. Because of the uneven lighting on the street in front of my door, event detection at night is very unreliable even with the night vision enabled. I explained this and said that I needed the "old" subscription because the new event recording wouldn't work for me. He said someone would get back to me. It took a full week for someone to write a short email telling me I could just buy the New Nest Aware. It took them a week to send me this useless email. After several more exchanges with customer support over email/ twitter, the gist of their replies was that the "old" Nest Aware was no longer available and I should just buy the new one. No attempt was even made to try to help me address the fact that the product no longer works for me with this new subscription, all they cared about was to make sure I spend money to buy their new subscription, regardless of the fact it is useless for me. So, less than a year after selling me a product, they discontinued it and are now forcing me to upgrade to a more expensive product that won't work for me. I now have to choose between buying a storage subscription that is useless for me, or get stuck with a worthless camera because without the aware subscription, most of the camera's "smart" features won't work at all. What's worse is that this isn't Google's first time. They also recently discontinued the "works with nest" program, another example of Google making a product worse *after* they sell it. I now have zero confidence in Google's willingness to continue support for their smart home products after they sell them. Regretably, my past loyalty was rewarded with a product that is now useless to me, and a house full of Nest devices that can apparently stop working overnight if for some reason Google decides it's no longer convenient for them to continue offering or supporting the product. At least it's cyber Monday so I can start shopping for devices to start replacing the Nest junk I'm now stuck with.

A Dissapointment due to video delays / lag

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I chose the Nest over the ring based on professional reviews and the fact that the power is hardwired. I did not want to deal with batteries. Over the 3 years I have owned my Nest Hello, I am still plagued with 5-8 second delays in notifications. If you are trying to talk to someone through the 2 way mic, it is very difficult to hold a conversation. The problem has to do with Google sending the stream up to the cloud before being sent back to your device. This is completely unacceptable. A google search will show this is a very common problem that Google is ignoring. Every time I open a case, I am told the problem is with my internet or wifi. They never take ownership. For the record, I have Verizon FIOS 1 GB internet with a very reliable 920/920 typical speed. I also upgraded recently to a Linksys Hydra Pro 6E router and my Nest still lags. It is definately not the router or the FIOS. Google now says a 5 second delay is normal. Google can fix this easily by sending data to cloud after delivering to monitoring device. This issue persists on mobile, Windows 10 PC, and on my Google Home. The common denominator is the doorbell.

Google (Nest Legacy) Smart Home - *ZERO* Support

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Full disclosure- this is really more an indictment of Google and its inability to support the Nest ecosystem it assimilated in 2014 than a review of (mostly excellent) legacy Nest products themselves. What remains of the support team evidently has *no* idea how these products work or how to troubleshoot them. They're assigned to individual device categories, so you'll find yourself completely without meaningful support if you have multiple devices (e.g. Nest thermostat, doorbell, smoke detectors) and they fail, in my case, to assist each other in setup as they're designed to do. What you'll get instead is the same round of basic suggestions (try resetting, updating, making sure it's plugged in, etc.) and finally a promise (after being stuck on hold for at least half an hour) to escalate, which- for me- after several weeks and multiple cases logged- has yet to happen. Despite their use of what seems to be a case management system, there's zero continuity- so you're stuck at square one every time you try to reconnect. All of this is pretty disappointing, if you consider that Google is one of the few Megacompanies with enough human and financial leverage to accomplish literally just about anything- certainly including adequate support of the technologies it consumes. If you're reading this, Big G, I wish you the best of luck in uniting everything you can reach under your malevolent umbrella of tracking and advertising technology masquerading as security and resources for consumers. For prospective users: Caveat Emptor. Your list of other good options is rapidly growing.

    Great but........

So we've had the the Hello doorbell cam for about 3 months now. Since the trial period is up we've noticed that you don't get a camera shot of anyones face. It's always the back of someone or nothing at all. My brother and a few friends have the Ring and in actually shows a little video of the person at the door. Nest wants you to pay a fee to do the same thing. That's just greedy. Google gets to see who is at your door but, we don't? Kind of defeats the purpose. Unless you are going to pay a subscription, you might want to look for something else.

Delays in Notifications...don't buy until fixed

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I've had this doorbell about 2 months now and I hope that Best Buy will let me return it. I previously had a Ring and it gave me too many alerts and required that I do the monitoring to set up "zones" so I took it back. With this one, it give less alerts and worked fine at first but then they free month of Nest Aware ran out. Now, it's not real time. Someone can ring your doorbell and be long gone before you can even get an alert or try to talk to them. Nest sent out an news release saying they are investigating the delays but that's not good enough for this price point. And if it's going to be delayed by 20 or 30 seconds, then what's the point. I was home Thursday and waiting for UPS package and I heard the truck pull up, heard him come to the door and ring the doorbell and by the time my phone picked it up, I could hear the truck start and the driver leave. So it's my Wifi? Nope, got 50MB and you guessed it...a Google Onhub router along with several other Google products that I'm not rethinking. Nest has acknowledged this issues and is saying a fix is coming "soon" and they going to give free subscriptions to Nest Aware...not good enough. Going to see if Best Buy will take this POS back and go back to the Amazon one.

We're sorry to hear about these issues you've experienced with your Nest Hello not sending notifications right away. A 20-30 second delay is definitely not expected as the Nest app is designed to alert you as soon as someone rings the doorbell. Feel free to reach out to us through one of our support channels if you'd like us to look into this with you further.

Rip off, poor camera and system

I thought this being a nest product and priced high would be good. I was wrong! Video quality is inferior to competition, the provided anchors didn’t work at all, he feature of being able to talk to someone at the door is a joke. The delay is SO bad and audio is choppy. Even the prerecorded messages are choppy. I though Nest would have figured it out, apparently not. On top of this, it records 24/7 regardless if you want it to or not. There is NO option to only record when movement detected which cause my internet bandwidth to exceed the monthly limit. I was charged $50 extra for internet! Then on top of that.... nest wants another $100 a year to be able to see my video it’s recording. Their pricing and system are a complete joke. With Arlo it would only record when needed AND I always had enough FREE cloud storage to review the recordings

    Fake Non-subscription Video Storage

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Ongoing, basic non-subscription video storage of the last rolling 24 hours was a feature referenced in some reviews that this product does NOT have and which was one of the key features to choose it over a RING doorbell. The feature is enabled as you set up the doorbell, but is only a "teaser" and is NOT available after you to try the free trial of the Nest Aware subscripion service with longer periods of storage. Three chats with customer service finally revealed a buried FAQ's reference to this situation. Also, there are NO sound or motion sensitivity settings to prevent neighbors across the street car lock alerts or exiting driveways from excessively tripping frequent notifications. Finally, the camera view is NOT low enough to view packages delivered and set against the door threshhold.

Without a Nest Aware subscription, you'll still receive motion and sound alerts, as well as have access to the live stream 24/7, but you would only be able to see the last 3 hours of snapshots. BEWARE: it may blow your electrical transformer

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

My experience started out great - I was excited. I had the product up and running for ~6 hours, and then....my power blew out. Now my doorbell has no power at all, and I need an electrician to come out and replace my doorbell transformer. I called Nest to see if they'd help, and they said they couldn't. Both my chime and transformer and now broken. Even weirder, I previously had a both a Ring doorbell and a Vivint doorbell. Both had the same power requirements and both worked on my electrical set up. My recommendation: wait for Nest to fix their power issues (on version 2). This one takes too much juice, and has a really terrible installation process that could easily cause shortages. Get a Ring or Vivint, and wait for the Nest version 2. (even though this one does have some facial recognition which is best-in-class, and is cool)
