Avoid! Defective Product
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this product in June of 2020. Yesterday I came home and noticed the front of the unit peeling and flaking off. I reached out to Google to see what could be done to resolve the concern. They informed me that this did not fall within warranty, even though the product is clearly defective. In doing more research online it looks like this is the case with many other users. They do not offer any resolution on how to prevent this issue and suggested I try to keep the device out of direct sunlight. This was quite hilarious to hear considering it is meant to be used outdoors.

Possible Safety Issue
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Possible safety issue. After being installed for slightly longer then a year the doorbell failed in a conductive state. The doorbell chime became constantly activated (like someone was holding down the button). I have a coil type chime which became very hot from being constantly activated (it was also humming). The rear of the doorbell (by the two screws) was also hot to the touch. I luckily was working from home that day and was able to disconnect it pretty quickly but I do find this very discerning. I did open a case with Google Support but they haven't got back to me yet (I filed the case one week ago).

Erratic
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Unit at odd times goes off line. Blue white light stays on, indicating unit has power. I have a Google WiFi, and app allows testing communications between devices and router as well as internet speeds. Pixel phone held near Hello shows 385Mbps wifi, Hello not connected to WiFi. and internet tests at 40Mbps down, 5Mbps up, After 15 to 30 minutes unit comes back on, and test shows Hello to wifi at 65Mbps. Nest ignores request to replace. Search "Nest Hello offline woes" and see Reddit and Nest Community posts.

Posted .We're sorry to hear about these issues you've experienced with your Nest Hello. Most offline issues are caused by not enough upload speed to handle all of the connected devices in the home, or this could be caused by other wireless interference or even power issues with the transformer not providing a constant steady voltage to keep the Nest Hello online properly.
Feel free to reach out to any of our support channels and we'll be happy to look into this with you.

Buyer Beware!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Owned for two months. First month is worked great, we loved it. shortly after that it started to break down on us, requiring factory rest (per Google Support). Eventually is stopped working all together. It then caused our Chime in our house to buzz, overheat and create a strong burning smell, which almost fried our transformer. I highly recommend not getting one of these products. Google Support has been 'looking into' these issues for about two weeks now with no solution.

Completely Useless
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Was very excited for the Nest Hello to finally release only discover its completely incompatible with my home. In this day and age of wireless technology, you would think something like this would come with a wired option for homes already wired with a doorbell and older buildings with no such system installed but NOPE instead Nest expects me to cough $250+ to set up wires which is impossible btw because I live in an apartment!!! Honestly skip this junk and stick to Ring since at least they're smart enough to include a wireless option on their doorbells

Posted .The Nest Hello is designed to be on and streaming 24/7 to ensure nothing is missed when someone is approaching the door. Because of this the Nest Hello needs to be powered by existing doorbell wiring in the home supplying 16-24V AC.

Check comments on Nest Community
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Before buying a Nest Hello be sure to check comments and questions on the Nest Community website. There is a torrent of existing customers that have doorbells that cannot maintain a wifi connection. In my case my doorbell is disconnected more than it is connected, rendering it virtually useless. The May 2018 software update has serious bugs and here we are in November with no fix in sight. Nest customer service is not helpful, blaming the problems on the customer's wifi, wiring, router, internet connection etc. even though Nest Community managers have admitted they know there is a problem. After living with the Hello problems for four months I strongly recommend against the Nest Hello. No one needs this aggravation.

Why does this get good reviews?
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I dont understand what the hype is and why I get SO many false alerts?! I live on a pretty main road in our neighborhood and I am constantly being told it see's someone although there is never anyone...not even someone walking by! I also have the camera somehow zoom in randomly and when I go to look at an 'alert' its zoomed out of focus. Maybe I have a bad one, but I dont understand the positive reviews.

Google just removed important security features
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Google just rolled out a software change that fundamentally alters the value of this product. The change has the device inform trespassers whether the camera is currently recording them, and thus also has the effect of informing them when they are not being recorded, for example, when your network is down, or your Internet connection is down, or when Nest services are down. This actually puts the safety and security of the homeowner and the homeowner's property at greater risk by advertising to trespassers and thieves when no recording is being done. Furthermore, Google has compounded the negative impact of this disastrous security change for doorbell owners by also informing people at your door when you view them remotely and then choose to ignore them. Rather than patching their product's security vulnerabilities, Google has chosen instead to screw over their paying customers because that is presumably cheaper and easier. If there is a class action lawsuit, I will join. I'll also be looking for a replacement product that doesn't place the interests of thieves over the interests of the homeowner and paying customer. This is not like changing the feature of one of Google's free products. This was a purchased device with a specific set of features. Google has reached out and removed vital security functionality from a purchased security device. I am livid about this change and angry that I must now search for and buy a new security product that hasn't been redesigned to help trespassers and criminals.

Please read this before buying
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Beware: The camera functionality is extremely basic without the hefty monthly fee: ONLY LIVE STREAM; ZERO "SAVE" OPTIONS. You WON'T be able to SAVE VIDEO OR PICS, you WON'T be able to VIEW PAST VIDEO, scroll back in time, only real live streaming, you WON'T EVEN be able to SAVE VIDEO OR PICS LOCALLY. ZERO. Nest gives you 3 HOURS OF SPORADIC PICS ONLY :( Even Arlo gives its customers 7 days of free cloud footage. Nest should let you save video or pics on a local drive/phone SD memory at least, but not even that is allowed... IF YOU BUY, BE READY TO SPEND $100-$300 EXTRA A YEAR (that's the cost of the doorbell itself) EVERY YEAR TO ENABLE "SAVE VIDEO" OPTION.

Posted .Without a Nest Aware subscription, you can still view live video 24/7 and receive motion and sound notifications to your phone and email. Our Nest Aware starts at $5 a month, or $50 a year for the first subscription, and $3 a month or $30 a year for additional subscriptions.

First one defective, second one stopped working
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Brought the Hello several months ago. Tried installing it. Just wouldn’t work. Spent over three hours “chatting” on line with Customer Service.. Finally advised to return it and get another. Did that and new one set up fine and has worked for about three months. Now it won’t show video on my phone when someone rings the doorbell. Spent another three hours with Customer Service. The same thing was happening with my IPad. Got the IPad straightened out and it now works. As for the phone(Samsung), their tech tells me it’s the phones fault and hung up. I also bought a Mini and it died in less than a month. Had to return it for replacement but found out three weeks after I returned it that they have no replacement for them and have no idea when they might get more in. I’ve “chatted” with five different people at Nest and each gives me a different story when we “chat”. What one tells me, the next tells me something else. Last email I got says I should get my replacement on September 25. Well that’s last week as it’s now October 2. Left hand doesn’t know what the right hand is doing.

Too costly, it's just a showpice after a month
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Initially we loved this product with all features, but after a month all options disappeared from the application because they are only with subscription. This is useless product without subscription, $5/Month. Now it is just a showpiece hanging outside door. It's definitely costly comparing other products and left features after a month. I would suggest buying any cheap camera with same features and hanging outside door.

Died Young
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was able to install it without difficulty and it worked great for a few months. It then died and an attempt to rewire didn't revive it. I'm guessing that although it was under a roof it didn't like our Florida weather. Have another brand now that is still working well.

Lag and horrible feedback
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After watching a couple dozen videos and reading hundreds of reviews, we opted for this Google nest instead of the Ring video doorbell. It was not easy, nor hard to install. The existing doorbell would NOT work with it no matter how many changes we made. (We followed their guidelines for troubleshooting) The worse though was the lag in speaking to people and the feedback was horrible! When you went to answer someone through the doorbell your voice came back at you like an echo every single time. We followed these trouble shooting tips too and nothing made it go away. We returned this Google Nest doorbell and bought our second choice, the Ring doorbell. Installation was slightly simpler and it worked with our existing doorbell. There is also no lag and no feedback like this Google Nest had.

Told Its Defective By Customer Support
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After spending an hour on the phone with customer support to figure out why the hello would not connect to my account (hard resets, enabling IPv6 on my network, etc) i was told the device was likely defective. When i asked what my options were, i was told to take it back to bestbuy and get my money back, which i will be doing tomorrow. I spent the next several minutes uninstalling the unit and chime, reinstalling my original door bell, and an overall wasted night. Go with a Ring, its been a proven product. I am moving to Ring and upgrading my nest cams to Arlo.

Geek Squad installed and it stopped working
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The NestCam doorbell stopped working 5 minutes after the Geek Squad left. I called the same day but Best Buy bureaucracy prevents the team to be contacted. The day after, a ticket cannot be issued because the installation team did not close out the ticket. Geek Squad 24/7 tech support or customer service unable to help. Asked for a call-back yesterday, but that did not happen today. I have to again, call Geek Squad and asked for a reschedule to troubleshoot the original installation. Disappoint in my 1st Geek Squad experience at all levels.
