Good alternative to the typical detectors that are on the market. Love the wireless integration capabilities and the voice alerts.

They connect with my Nest Thermostat and if anything is detected will turn off the furnace. I recommend very highly.

This is the one most important device in my house. After a fire at our house I require a smoke alarm that does more that just sounds a noise. The user interface of the near system combine with the integration of the thermostat is unmatched.

I never really trusted the old cheap smoke detectors. This works great and is high quality

Expensive but super quality with 10 year life. Have several throughout house.

We purchased 5 Nest Protects to replace our old smoke detectors - which had reached the end of their 10-year usable life - because of three key features: integrated CO2 detection (to get rid of the separate, ugly plug-in detectors); the more subtle voice alerting with instructions (rather than the immediate and jarring shrieking that our old detectors would do if the kitchen got a little smoky); ability to control from the same app as our several Nest Thermostats. HOWEVER we had to return all the Nest Protects because they were missing one critical feature: compatibility with our home security system. This meant that the fire department would NOT be automatically alerted in case of fire. This would not be a major issue if we were at home in the unlikely event of fire, as we could call the fire department from our cell phones on the way out of the house. But if we were out of the house or away on vacation, the fire department would only learn of fire AFTER a neighbor or passerby took notice and called it in... and by the time fire was that noticeable, how far would the fire have progressed? How much of the house would already be destroyed? Most importantly, what chances would our pets have of being saved? While such an event is unlikely, it was not a risk we were willing to take, But we really wanted to keep the Nest Protects, so looked for security systems compatible with them, willing to replace the one that had been installed by the previous owners of our home, in order to use th Nest Protects. So I searched the 'works with nest' section of their web site and found that Nest Protect is not compatible with ANY home security systems with central monitoring (ADT Pulse appears to be compatible with Nest thermostats, but require using public their own proprietary smoke/CO2 detectors). The only compatible security systems were a couple of startups (one still in Kickstarter stage) that had Wi-Fi enabled DIY systems that worked like a Sonos audio system, allowing owners to install detectors, cameras, etc. where they please. But I was not willing to trust my family's safety and all our belongings to a company that could be gone by the time I press 'publish' on this review. Bottom line: Nest Connect is a very cool product, probably good for people in apartments where building alarms or neighbors would quickly notice smoke or fire if no one were home. We ended up buying traditional smoke detectors with integrated CO2 (so we can still get rid of the plug-in units). We look forward to considering Nest again, when the 10-year life on our new detectors is past. Hope by then Nest can integrate with central alarm monitoring services.

So much better than standard CO/Fire alarms and great for monitoring remotely.

having kids makes this device fantastic...does daily check , & will alert if anything is above tolerance

It works very well with my nest thermostat. I would definitely recommend it .
