Saved our house
||Posted .First let me start by saying I highly recommend this product. Long story short I had a fire in my home. The nest worked and alerted me while I was away from home. I called the fire department when I noticed the temperature on my nest thermostat rising. We lost everything inside mostly due to smoke and water damage. The fire chief said had we called any later the whole house would have been gone. I will be buying these again. Tldr buy one you won't regret it, and do not ignore the alerts.

Great peace of mind
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed.I am sold on these. We had one at our old house and had to get them in or new house. These are easy to set up and manage through the Nest app. They are not to sensitive which helps to eliminate false alarms, and when an alarm goes off the notification is sent. One of the great additional features is the lighted ring that illuminates when you walk past. We have these set up in hallways and it's nice to have a little light at night when hall lights are off. I would highly recommend to anyone looking to looking for a smoke/Carbon Monoxide detector in a smart home setting.

Smoke and CO2 in one talking-smart detector
||Posted .It's a great product. If it does alarm it tells you which one is alarming (if you have more than one). They talk to each other on their own secret network, so they work even if your internet goes down. And the wired unit has a battery backup if the power goes out. It even does self checks. Oh, and it's a night light.

Great protection!
||Posted . Owned for 4 months when reviewed. My family already had one in our main level and wanted to add two more so each level is protected. They installed easily and connected quickly to the Nest app. This product does a great job at keeping us protected. I highly recommend these over your traditional fire alarms.

Nest Protect review (2015): Improved safety makes it easier to recommendA pricey, but solid addition to your home. The Nest Protect takes something as boring as detecting smoke and makes it slightly exciting. Updated sensors reduce false alarms and are quicker to determine when there's a problem. Best smart smoke detector to keep your home safeThe concept is simple: A smoke alarm that tells you there's a fire nearby is a great, but a smoke alarm that tells you there's a fire no matter where you are is even better. Smart smoke and carbon monoxide (CO) detectors are one of the most useful

Q: QuestionMy house is already hardwired with First Alert Smoke/Carbon detectors. I was informed I would have to go with the same brand and model otherwise they would not work. So will I be able to replace one of these with a Nest wired? Will the others go off too?
Asked by RehobothBears.
- A:Answer NO ... First Alert use 3 wires ... 2 for AC and 1 common for Alarm ... Nest only has the 2 AC wires ... it does Alerts to other Nests using Wifi

Q: QuestionWhat is the technology used to detect the smoke?
Asked by Ken9.
- A:Answer Nest Protect uses a Split-Spectrum Sensor capable of detecting fast-flaming fires and smoldering fires using a 450nm wavelength of light to detect the tiny particles created by fast fires. It also uses a 880nm infrared wavelength to look for larger particles created by smoldering fires. You can learn more about Split-Spectrum Sensor here: https://nest.com/support/article/What-is-the-Split-Spectrum-Sensor as well as get a more in-depth look in our Split-Spectrum Sensor White Paper available at the bottom of the previous link!

Q: QuestionCan it be linked to a IRIS Hub or other Home Automation hub? I haved a 2d generation IRIS and First Alert Smoke and CO Detector claims it will link with Iris, but I'm more interested in the Nest Smoke Alarm. Seems like everything has It's own app.
Asked by Nomadsmg.
- A:Answer You can more or less try it before buying it with an android phone, if you install the Google home app, you are able to link external smart devices and hub to your google account. Then you can talk to the assistant of your phone the same way you would talk to Home mini. It has less features of course, but it should do the same with external hubs. I just double checked in the compatible devices list and I can see an "Iris" icon, I didn't try it but I guess it means it should work! (You probably should try it first and not only assume it does.) To find the page in my screenshot: Open the android "Google Home" app > top left menu > more settings > Home control > blue + button
