Q: Will it mount on a Nest protect mounting plate?
A: Hi JimM, thank you for your question. Yes, the SC5 detectors are compatible with Nest Protect mounting plates. They can be mounted directly using the existing plate. Please note that the hardwired version of the SC5 may require a plug in adapter, which is included in the package when purchasing a new unit. - Maria
Q: Does it have a motion light?
A: No, it has no convenience features. Kind of a bummer.
Q: are these controllable through the Nest app, or do I need to start over with google Home?
A: I think you will be obligated to the Google Home App in the very near future, even if First Alert now works in the Nest Protect App.
A: Yes, this does integrate the same / nicely with your existing NEST PROTECTS. It is sold as a “drop in replacement”. It also shows up on your Google Home App but NOT on the NEST App. if you are still running it.
Q: Is there a cost to use these through the app, aside from the initial purchase?
A: no - the controller app if free
