It will be a lot easier prior mounting.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The directions stated that in order for them to initially "talk" to each other, they had to be sitting next to each other during the programming. Hope that helps.

I didn't do all my smoke detectors, so half are integrated with nest the other half are still hard wired with each other. The nest detectors don't hard wire in with other smoke detectors, the only require power and ground. It is kind of like adding a new device to your home network. You can scan the device code with your phone, that square product code, not bar code. you can actually link all of them before you put them in the ceiling or in place since they have a battery backup. You will need a phone or computer to designate where the detector is located, and you will understand what I mean if you get on nest.com and read some.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I installed 8 Nest Protect's in my home and I found it easier to setup each Nest Protect prior to installation. Keep in mind that the hard-wired Nest Protect's will appear in the Nest app as having no AC power until they are installed. The rings on all interconnected Nest Protects will glow orange until all configured Nest Protects have AC power. There is a QR code on the back of each Nest Protect that you scan with the Nest app at the beginning of setup. You can't scan the code if they're already installed. If you don't scan the QR code, then you have to enter unique information that is printed on the back of each Nest Protect. Once you setup one Nest Protect, you use it to setup the others (i.e. you don't have to enter the wifi information for each Nest Protect). Setup takes several minutes and requires that you push the ring/button on one of the previously setup Nest Protect's and the Nest Protect you're adding. If you're installing the Nest Protect on a high ceiling, it would be harder to press the ring/button.

The next step is to add the unit in the application, only then remove the plastic tap. You have to do this for every single unit, do not do all of them at once. After the dirt installation, the program will ask you if you want to add another unit, you press yes. Repeat this for every single unit. You might encounter the problem the unit not connecting to the router, it might take to attempts. Just remember, you are saving about $100 dollars per unit when you install them. Good luck
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It's very easy. I installed 10 of them. The Nest APP walks you through the setup program. The first setup uses your wifi. After the first installation, you install them one at a time. You do need to set up each unit near an installed Nest.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes you can. Need to do it before you put them on the ceiling though, it is much easier.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Have to do it after it is installed. You'll need to sync each one separately.
