Replacement smoke detector
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. One of my Nest smoke detectors failed (gen. 1) and I needed a replacement. The new unit was fairly easier to install although they changed the mounting and the plug on the new unit from the original so that was aggravating. Otherwise it was simple to get connected. It has been working well ever since.

Lousy Google service and wall plate useless
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. These new things SUCK!! For some stupid reason no one at Google can explain to me why the Nest mounting brackets went from a square type that was the right size to fit your wall's utility box to a small round type where NONE of the holes line up. I had to go to Lowe's & find a plate to fit on my box with a hole in the middle (I have the A/C wired type) and then use self-tapping metal screws to mount the circular plate. Google support is also worthless. I called them. They said they'd send me two plates that would work, instead they sent me one whole new detector with the little round plate. Too much hassle for such an expensive product.

Disappointing
||Posted . Owned for 11 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Ok product, but would be great if it didn’t need new batteries every 2 months even though we use recommended batteries and have turned off pathlight and nightly promise.

Posted .Hi Jbret2, thanks for posting a review. We’re sorry to hear that you keep on changing batteries for your Nest Protect.
Actual battery life will vary depending on a number of factors, including feature configuration, Pathlight usage, number of emergency and pre-alert events, etc. Make sure to use the correct battery which is the Energizer Ultimate Lithium AA (L91).
If you are using the correct batteries, and the issue still persists, we’d like the opportunity to talk and take a closer look at your device to investigate what’s causing the issue. You can reach out to our support team anytime using this link: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp

Posted .Hi there, thanks for posting a review to let us know that you’re having an issue with your Nest Protect and we’re sorry to learn about your experience with unexplained smoke alarms. We’re always listening to what our customers’ share with us.
We developed a software algorithm to detect steam related events and reduce nuisance alarms they can cause, while keeping the same level of sensitivity for fire and smoke. Steam Check feature may reduce nuisance alarms from steam and high humidity. Steam Check is on by default, but you can enable or disable it by following this guide:
- Open the Nest app or on the Web at any time.
- Select the Nest Protect that you want to change, go to Settings.
then select Nest Sense and turn Steam Check on or off.
- Once complete, it can take up to 24 hours for the settings on your
Nest Protect to be updated.
If unresolved, we may need to have a closer look to understand the cause of the issue. Feel free to contact our support team so that we can work together and improve your experience here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp

Over sensitive to shower steam
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Over sensitive to shower steam. A brief shower with the ceiling exhaust fan on still causes the alarm to go off out in the hallway.

Posted .Hi BleuChzBallz123,
Thanks for your feedback. We're sorry to hear your Nest Protect is sounding false alarm due to the shower steam. We know it can be annoying and we're here to help resolve it.
Steam can trigger false alarms in many smoke alarms. Common household sources of steam include showers and humidifiers. To help lower the number of false alarms caused by steam, Nest developed Steam Check. Steam Check helps Nest Protect tell the difference between steam-related events and real fire or smoke events. While Steam Check helps Nest Protect distinguish between steam and smoke, but it won't stop all steam-related alarms. If Nest Protect observes steam that appears similar to real smoke or fire, the alarm will sound.
The best way to eliminate steam-related false alarms completely is to move Nest Protect away from sources of steam like bathrooms and home humidifiers.
Steam Check is on by default, but you can enable or disable Steam Check with the Nest app or on the Web at any time. Select the Nest Protect that you want to change, go to Settings then select Nest Sense and turn Steam Check on or off. Once complete, it can take up to 24 hours for the settings on your Nest Protect to be updated.

Forget wired, get all battery
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Device is very sensitive to battery type, energy level. It will chirp, complaint per wifi, and drive you insane as you climb up&down ladders -over and over. Do yourself a favor; skip ahead to all battery.

What google/sales don't tell yo....
||Posted . Owned for 8 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. What they don't tell you is that this can not be around cars, even if it's in a basement. they not recommend for a garage. they claim it damages the sensors or causes nuisance alarms, and it does go off with certain types of vehicles pulling in or out. i'm sure they'll use this to void your warranty too. i think it might be better to see if it's possible to DIY a solution that integrates with Home Assistant.

Posted .Hi cdoublejj, thanks for your feedback. We apologize for your disappointment with the areas where you can install Nest Protect.
You are correct about our recommendation to not place the Nest Protect in your garage area since they are usually not heated or cooled, and the actual temperatures experienced in a garage may go above or below the temperature range that the alarm has been designed for. The smoke from engine exhaust fumes can also cause nuisance alarms and damage the sensors of the smoke alarm.
We'll definitely pass on your feedback to the right team since we're always searching for ways to improve our products and services. Meanwhile, if you have any questions or concerns you would like us to address, you're more than welcome to contact our support team here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp

Detector works, Nest connectivity sucks
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The product won’t stay connected to the Nest App. Have to remove the product and reinstall every few weeks. Last time, the product would not reconnect at all. Turns out to be a very expensive piece of junk that could easily be replaced by a $35 detector. Don’t bother with this product.

Posted .Hi Steve,
Thanks for letting us know of the issue with your Nest Protect. We're sorry for the difficulty in keeping it connected to your Wi-Fi network.
We suggest trying out the steps below to help isolate the issue:
- Disable the cellular/mobile data for your mobile device. If you’re using your cellphone to check, make sure it’s connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your Protect. To help make sure cellular data is off, turn on Airplane mode and then turn on Wi-Fi.
- Make sure the Nest app version is up to date.
- Restart your router to reset your internet connection.
- Check for interference. Connectivity issues can be affected by factors such as physical barriers (like, walls or building materials), furniture and appliances, or even neighboring wifi networks.
We can also take a look at what's causing the issue and do our best to help you If you can contact us here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/contactflow

Stay away
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I would not recommend any Nest products to anyone. They have issues with connection constantly and while one product might work with your router another Nest product will not. Let’s just hope your thermostat doesn’t have a mind of its own during a winter Nor’easter

No wired interconnect
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Wired version doesn't support third wire for signal so you would need to replace all existing wired interconnect devices with these. Kind of a lame excuse from Nest / Google if you find the FAQ.

Great product
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Nest protect is a little pricey, but I think it's worth it. We have 2 in our house, so far. Very quick/easy to install and the night light feature is nice. I also like how the full blown smoke alarm doesn't go off if you just burned popcorn- you have the option to tell it everything is ok through the Nest app on your phone.
