I can't say anything bad about it we never did use it because it had to be hard wired into the house that's the only reason we returned it

This was the best purchase i made the wired model was super easy to install and instructions were super clear about what wires go together and which do not, the heads up feature is super useful because it tells you a warning before the alarm goes off! And you can even cancel the alarm with the button thats in the middle of the unit, although it is quite expensive i would recommend it. (They also work together if you have multiple of them)

The Nest Protect was easy to install and looks great. Pairing the Protect with my Nest Thermostat was quick and easy using the Nest Android app. I haven't had a fire in my home yet so I can't comment on how well the smoke detection works, but I love the night light. I bought one to see if I liked it and now I am buying more to replace all of my smoke detectors with the Nest Protect.

I cannot say enough good things about the Nest Protect units. They are easy to install, easy to setup and work really well. They all link together and alert you if there is any trouble in any room and call it out by name instead of just sounding an alarm. We had an issue one night and it was helpful to hear "Smoke in kid's bedroom" instead of just an alarm. We also love the night light feature that lights walkways at night. Highly recommend!

While this is a little pricey, especially when you are replacing several smoke detectors in your home, they are very easy to install and provide peace of mind knowing that you will get a notification on your phone if something happens while you're away from home. The nightlight feature is nice, and I'm glad it can be turned off for individual units because I certainly don't want this coming on every time I turn over in my bed.

This looks great and was easy to install. Having batteries included made setup a breeze. I replaced two aged wired smoke detectors and I like the added carbon monoxide protection. Will probably pick up more to replace other detectors in the house.

We have these all over our house and never have false alarms. I love the nightlight on it and the promise ring at night when you turn the lights off to give you that safe feeling that its watching out for you.

I love these smoke detectors- and they also detect carbon monoxide. Simple installation, easy set up. I purchased these because my old units would sound off every time I cooked. These also light your way at night if you walk near them- not a great spotlight, but enough to help you navigate.

There when you need it most

My house has hardwired smoke detectors which needed to be replaced. We decided to replace with Google Nest Protect devices roughly 6 months ago. On Valentines day we went out to eat. I received an alert on my phone just as we were about to enter the restaurant about smoke in the kitchen. I called the non-emergency number who transferred me to the fire department. I gave them our address and told them the situation and gave permission to enter if needed. The fire department called me 5 minutes later and let me know our gas stove was on and a pan on the stove had burnt filling the house with smoke. One of our 90 lb dogs helped himself to a pan with food bits on the stove and in doing so started the stove. If we had not received that alert our house may have burned down. Thank you Google-Nest team!

Took me less that ten minutes to install and set up each one. The night light options are an excellent bonus. Also found out the connect with my sprinklers in case of a fire. Very happy with this purchase.

You'll Be Buying New Ones in Two Years

Well, the smart of this thing is cute and all; app integration, a nightlight and audible notifications --great. But wait until you own it for a couple of years and the batteries start dying every month and Google is unresponsive to this known issue that hundreds of people are complaining about on their support page. And did you know there was an "expiration date" on this thing? At $120 a pop, 1-I can't afford to keep replacing this unit every few years, 2-can't keep buying batteries, or 3-continue to do business with a company who doesn't own their issues. I'm going to put my old units back up tonight.

One of the best smart smoke detectors

I’ve owned the Nest Protect for a few years now and I’d have to say I haven’t had any problems. The first gen was plagued with false alarms. I like the fact that it talks to you if there’s smoke and the app notifies you. I really like the path light, night light for my kids. It also functions as a motion sensor for my Nest thermostat to detect if I’m home. Great product!

    Smoke detector never looked cool

One of my best buys of 2016. Never thought a home protect utility gadget will look this cool. Self learning and intuitive alarms. We didn't panic when the alarm went off due to some smoke from kitchen. With the previous one more than putting up the smoke we use to scramble to switch of that ear piercing sound. Now Nest allow me to concentrate on the issue first (if it happens). The most liked feature is the night light.

    Beware the expiration date!

I really like the product itself. However, it is still relatively pricey for average folks especially if you have to install many in the houses (and you can't mix with other brand if you want them to be able to communicate with each other which is an important feature to tell everyone in the house in case of emergency). After installing the first one to test it out a few months ago, we purchased two more online from Best Buy. After opening both boxes to install them today, to my disappointment, these two units seem to be made in 2015, so I already lost between 1.5-2 years of its approximated 10 year life. I felt cheated somehow and it seems there is no way to tell from the outside box when these units were made.

This product was a breeze to install and worked flawlessly right out of the box. Instructions were clear and concise, even someone as "unhandy" as myself was able to install in just minutes. This device gives you great peace of mind. You can check in on the device from anywhere.

Very easy to set up and tests great. No issues whatsoever. Blew out a candle right next to it and it didn't trigger an alarm. Not sure what else to say, my house isn't on fire . The app installed and works great, so I can test it and make sure that it works.

    LOVE LOVE LOVE these things

I have never been excited about smoke detectors. These things are awesome and the peace of mind you have knowing that if there were an issue in your home, you'd be awoken or alerted if you were not home is worth the money they cost. They know where they are located and they all talk to each other if you have multiple ones in your home. You're protecting your family and pets from smoke and CO and if there were an issue, you'd be alerted in time to hopefully get the fire department in route before its too late. They're constantly checking themselves so you don't have to but initiating a test on all of them at once is as easy as two clicks of opening the app. Just watch the videos of this thing or videos from people whose lives and homes it has saved.

After a fire in my mothers house I decided it was time to update my 10 year old detectors. The Nest is stylish, relatively easy to install, and has some great features. I like the monthly summary email that is sent to me. Also, the IFTTT ("If this then that" website) integration is nice to have so it can alert me and my family on my phone/text/email. The only thing I would like to see is a way to test the integration with IFTTT so I can tell if it really works. It won't activate the IFTTT alert unless there is an actual event. I can trigger that by lighting a match below the Nest, but can't test it virtually. Love the product though. Nice addition to my home automation.
