Easy setup!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great product from Nest. Easy to install and setup. I purchased two of these, one for upstairs and one for downstairs and they were very easy to setup and are working well.

Hasn't met expectations.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Honestly, I just thought this would be better than it was. Maybe I had high expectations for a smoke detector, but I thought at this price point it would offer more for me. The feature that brought me in was the "heads up" feature because I'm such a mess in the kitchen and get distracted easily, but even with my normal "cooking" I haven't set the alarm off like my old alarm. I'm not sure if this is because the alarm is smarter or if it's just less sensitive. The pathlight feature may be more useful in other areas of the house, but hasn't worked very well for where we have our wires. And we ended up getting rid of our thermostat in favor of the Ecobee3 so the connection to the thermostat is lost. If you're already committed to the Nest ecosystem I'm sure it's great, but I'm just not as charmed by this as I thought I might be.

Nest Protect...Great product
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I initially bought two of these alarms at a Home Depot store and installed them and two days later, I found out that they were the 1st generation. I immediately took them down and returned them. They didn't have the 2nd generations so I then went to Best Buy and got the 2nd generation. I had no problem with the setting-up and installation of both generations. I replaced two very old smoke alarms. Great smart features and the pathlight is great. Worth every penny. Just be sure you get the 2nd generation Nest Protect.

Love the new detector

I would not buy again
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Initially loved how this integrated with the thermostat. Nightlight was a nice touch, too. CO censor failed over a year before expiration date. Smoke detectors do wear out. No issue there. Contacted Nest Customer Service, Rep 1: "Your CO sensor failed, but we can't replace it as we don't make that model anymore." Supervisor, "warranty is two years. Sorry about your luck." Why place an expiration date on a device that won't last to the date? Other customers have felt the pain as documented on the inter webs. A z-wave connected smoke/CO detector is about half to a third of the price of this Product. There are other premium offerings that offer Homekit or Alexa integration for about the same price. 5 years ago I would've been convincing you to buy this. Now, I'll just say I don't see the value in spending a premium for a product that the company doesn't stand behind. Especially when there are substitutable and cheaper alternatives. Its time has come and gone.

Disappointed
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have to admit I was so excited and loved my nest protect especially because of my furbabies at home alone all day. However, one Sunday I burned some toast and the smoke alarm went off. I did not receive a notification on my phone and even now when I check the app it says everything was fine on that day. I can test the alarm with my phone so I know it is connected correctly. I have tried unsuccessfully to reach the company for a week now. I emailed them and they emailed me that they would contact me but they have not. They also gave me a phone number to call with that email but I was on hold thirty minutes before I hung up.

Happy over all
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Like the product, the fact that it gives you a verbal warning before the alarm, the disable option via phone, when my wife burns dinner, nice looking. But most of all, I have a piece of main knowing that if anything happens at home, I get a phone notification. The only reason I don’t give it a 5 start is because I have a four thousand square foot home, and I have over 15 smoke detectors in my house, so I wish I could link my nest with the other smoke detectors. This would be a $1600 dollars investment to buy Nest for the entire house. I guess one eache month for fifteen months.

Awesome upgrade
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It was easy to replace existing smoke detector with the new Nest Protect. I was able to replace separate smoke detect and carbon monoxide detector with one unit. This is a photoelectric unit that can be operated by app on your phone. It has a night light feature that works really nicely. I thought it might be too bright but its really subtle and works well.

Peace of Mind Is Everything
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you're looking for peace of mind whenever you leave your house you can't go wrong with the nest family products. After careful review watching online videos I decided to go who is there smoke detection system throughout my home and I couldn't be happier with the results.

Great product
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love my nest protect! I have pets at home and live in an older house, so I do worry about the old wiring catching fire. Now with this, I feel so much more at ease, knowing that my cat and dog are safe.

Beware of false positives
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Unfortunately I had a false alarm on my unit. It was when no one was home, so I rushed home and called the fire department on the way, only to see that I was wasting their time. While it was first gen (this is second gen), I'm appalled that they didn't reach out to customers to let them know about a know issue with Gen 1. They said that false alarms can happen on Gen 1, and that you can trade in for free with Gen 2. A little late now. I don't trust Gen 2 either. I had my first unit for 2.5 years, is it just a matter of time before something similar happens with Gen 2? I don't trust this company. They should have recalled a product they knew was faulty.

Turned into a disappointment.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had two google Nests professionally installed. Everything seemed fine; I would get monthly reports that everything was fine. This month I got a notice that they were offline. They tried to walk me through reconnecting through the app but neither Nest would reconnect. I was told I would have to remove then from the ceiling, factory reset, delete them from my app, scan the QR code to reset them up. Maybe I could stand on a chair to reach them, but I'm not sure I could turn them enough to get the QR code to scan or get the units reattached to the ceiling. They should have had a QR code in the box and all I would have to do is push the button to reset. I'm very disappointed - I used to recommend these products but not any more.

Posted .Hi there, df33708! Thanks for taking the time to share your feedback with the Nest Protect (wired). It's unfortunate to hear about your recent experience, especially after the initial installation and operation. Your feedback about having a simpler reset process, perhaps with a QR code included in the box for easier reconfiguration had been taken note of. If you have more questions and other concerns, please reach out to our dedicated team of specialists on the Google Help page here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp

2nd Gen mounting bracket too small.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought two of them 4 years ago. One of them started giving false smoke alarms at 4am in the morning (like clockwork) took it down and replaced with a 2nd Gen. They changed the mounting bracket and made it much smaller. It's so small in fact, that it wouldn't cover the smoke alarm electrical box. I had to fasten the old bracket to the new one just to get it to work. I like their alarms. I just wish they had left the mounting bracket alone. This would have made it easier on those that bought the original one.

BEWARE of purchasing from third party retailer!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.BEWARE of purchasing from third party retailer! The Nest Protect smoke alarm has a limited life span. These units can sit on a shelf for OVER a year diminishing the time the units will operate. They COMPLETELY stop working after the expiration date printed on back of physical alarm! There is no date printed on the box to indicate prior to purchasing. Nest will NOT replace and is extremely unhelpful. I recently purchased two units that were both OVER a year old, could not exchange them due to retailer out of stock and Nest refused to replace them. My Nest Protect will not work as long as expected or advertised. Just beware of buying from third party retailer!!!

Nest less
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It turns out that you can only use energizer batteries when you replace the originals. This is not explicitly stated with the product but will come up when you call the help line. If you're lucky you will get someone that speaks English when you call. I have had similar issues with my Nest thermostat since Google acquired Nest. I don't think I would currently recommend any of their products at this point.

DO NOT BUY!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Worked very well for just over two years. Then was woken up to the dreaded beeping every 90 seconds. Ended up having to pull the batteries out of the unit (even if the unit is wired) to stop the beeping. Absolutely no warning or communication in the Nest app. Turns out, the "sensors failed". This exact experience happened with both Protects I purchased and each just after the warranty expired. Contacting Nest support was very painful and their solution was to purchase another unit since it was out of warranty. The "only thing they could do" was provide a small discount on my purchase of a replacement. Such a scam!
