I love Nest products. I've had the Nest Learning Thermostat for over 3 years now and just purchased this product. It is simple and intuitive, available via the app on mobile or anywhere, and it also detects carbon monoxide, which was a big plus. The pathway light is an awesome feature, too.

I needed to replace an old faded smoke detector and definitely wanted to update my house. I am so glad I chose Nest. I bought the wired version and everything was simple. Easy installation, wiring, and connectivity. I'm very pleased and will be purchasing two more in the near future.

After finding out that our alarm company couldn't monitor the smoke and carbon monoxide detectors that came with our home and that the ones our old alarm company installed weren't monitored either, we decided that trying out a Nest would be a good idea. We had a bit of an issue when we first put it up because we were using the wrong kind of battery and could not get rid of the low battery warning. Once we replaced the batteries with lithium ion batteries that issue was fixed. We liked the first once enough to replace two more of the others with Nests. I really like that they communicate the battery status and perform monthly checks on themselves. So far no false alarms. I hope they will never be tested for real, but I like knowing that they will contact the fire department if needed and that we set them up with our home automation system to contact us if any alarms go off. I also hope they will last more than a few years, unlike our old ones.

This was very easy to install and setup was quick. The app does it all for you and the nightlight function is great. If you have several they will communicate with each other and tell you the area the danger was detected in. Works great so far.

The Best of the Worst is Still Bad

To be clear, I hate smoke alarms, even though I "appreciate" they might save my life. The problem is that they cannot be "managed" without climbing an 8 foot ladder to reach a twelve-foot ceiling and working with my arms over my head. I am 80 years old. I am not going to climb an 8 foot ladder. It's life-threatening. Consequently, when a battery chirps, I must move to a nearby hotel for several days, call an electrician, and pay $200 to have the battery replaced, not counting the cost of several nights in the hotel until the electrician can show up. Is that a great design for a consumer product? These Nest devices use a long life battery supposedly rated at 10 years but I am skeptical of that. The rating is the shelf-life, not the use-life. Anyway, it only kicks the can down the road.Eventually the batteries will chirp and I will need to go through the ordeal again. I mistakenly deleted an alarm from the network when I only meant to "hush" a false alarm. To re-add it, I must call an electrician. Why? because the only way to scan the convenient barcode located on the BACK side of the device, requiring its removal from the ceiling, which requires me to climb a ladder. Smart product design? I checked my Best buy receipt. Barcodes? Device numbers? Anything I could use to reconnect the device. NO! I must pay $200 and go to a hotel. I checked online with Google/Nest to see if I had a registered account where all the barcodes and/or product codes were listed. None such. I tried connecting with each device by Bluetooth while standing right under it. Not possible. The only solution? Pay $200 and wait a week for a scheduled electrician to show up. 99.99% of all smoke alarm alerts are "false" alarms due to temporary smoke, pollution, dust, CO, battery, or other transient condition. Every time, it costs $200 or risk permanent disability and death. These Nests are the least offensive of any, but I hate them in principle because of terrible user interface design.

These are pretty darn pricey - Nest or BestBuy should offer a quantity discount. Regardless this is great. It knows the difference between burnt toast and a real fire - priceless. It also communicates with you via the App which no dumb smoke detector can do.

Installed this into the same place as original smoke detector in about 5 minutes. Clear instructions and easy install using app. Night light feature works great. App updates and sends reports as expected. This is everything I expected.

I bought this to replace an old co2 detector and replace one of my smoke alarms. I like that it is all in one. Nest makes it very easy to set up to your wireless network. it is easy to test and turn off if you get smoke from cooking. I also really love the night light.

I absolutely love this smoke detector! It works perfectly with our nest thermostat and I love that I can log in and see it on the same app. Should there be a fire it automatically shuts off either the furnace or air conditioner and alerts you. It does self checks all the time so you know if it's in good working order. This was easy to install. We used it in the main area of our home. My only draw back is the price. It is hard to be able to afford more than a couple to go in your home.

Just as easy to install as a standard smoke alarm. Has many great extra features like monitoring/control from the app and a nice nightlight feature. Fortunately, I haven't had any real world tests of the smoke/CO alarm, but it does run its own daily and weekly self tests.

Love the nest protect. Easy to install, but must follow the step by step instruction. Best of all is the warning before any loud beeping noise so you can cancel because most are just mokes from cooking. The only down side is you have an expiration date of 10 years.

I've used Nest products for almost two years and have researched other similar products. Nest, in my opinion, is by far the best for price, ease of use, energy savings and app. Detects smoke and CO2 instantly and doesn't send false alarms for steam.

Nest has done a really nice job creating a smoke detector that is intelligent and easy to install and use. You're obviously paying more for the name and aesthetic, but having smoke alarms that communicate with your smartphone and let you know when they're testing themselves, when there's an emergency and what kind of emergency becomes very handy. I would say whether or not it's worth the extra money depends on the longevity of the product, but the Nest Protect has been great so far.

I've had the nest protect for a few months and it works great. You can check all tests and updates on your phone app and it brings a modern look to an otherwise typically boring product. Nice feature lighting up the hallway when you walk by it in the dark

Insanely easy to set up and install. Very cool lighting on it. Only thing I would wish is that the base would be a bit bigger to accommodate the space where the old detectors were. The Nest has a smaller footprint than those ones did. For some of my hardwired old detectors they were using round electrical boxes and the Nest mounting screws don't line up with that configuration. No big deal I just left the old ones up and put these ones up nearby.
