The Nest wired alarm replaced an old smoke alarm. The included instructions were easy to follow to sync with the Nest App. Easy install. I also like the little night light that activates with motion.

I bought the hard wired ones to replace the existing smoke alarms. They are very easy to install. I really like the night light feature; it lights up your path as you walk near it or you can leave it on (great for kids rooms).

Like nest thermostat, this device performs flawlessly. Purchased 3 of them and installed few weeks ago. Very simple to configure and install, intuitive and simple to use. Night light feature is helpful in navigating dark hallways and rooms.

Very easy to install and great product to protect your home from smoke and carbon monoxide. Also they are great nightlights as they light up when motion is detected (can be disabled in settings if not wanted).

The Best of the Worst is Still Bad

To be clear, I hate smoke alarms, even though I "appreciate" they might save my life. The problem is that they cannot be "managed" without climbing an 8 foot ladder to reach a twelve-foot ceiling and working with my arms over my head. I am 80 years old. I am not going to climb an 8 foot ladder. It's life-threatening. Consequently, when a battery chirps, I must move to a nearby hotel for several days, call an electrician, and pay $200 to have the battery replaced, not counting the cost of several nights in the hotel until the electrician can show up. Is that a great design for a consumer product? These Nest devices use a long life battery supposedly rated at 10 years but I am skeptical of that. The rating is the shelf-life, not the use-life. Anyway, it only kicks the can down the road.Eventually the batteries will chirp and I will need to go through the ordeal again. I mistakenly deleted an alarm from the network when I only meant to "hush" a false alarm. To re-add it, I must call an electrician. Why? because the only way to scan the convenient barcode located on the BACK side of the device, requiring its removal from the ceiling, which requires me to climb a ladder. Smart product design? I checked my Best buy receipt. Barcodes? Device numbers? Anything I could use to reconnect the device. NO! I must pay $200 and go to a hotel. I checked online with Google/Nest to see if I had a registered account where all the barcodes and/or product codes were listed. None such. I tried connecting with each device by Bluetooth while standing right under it. Not possible. The only solution? Pay $200 and wait a week for a scheduled electrician to show up. 99.99% of all smoke alarm alerts are "false" alarms due to temporary smoke, pollution, dust, CO, battery, or other transient condition. Every time, it costs $200 or risk permanent disability and death. These Nests are the least offensive of any, but I hate them in principle because of terrible user interface design.

Love everything about this device except the cost but that's what you pay for high tech. Easy to install and sync to network for a DIY. The functions are incredible even down to the night light that is motion activated. You won't be disappointed!

Nice upgrade from your typical, old-school CO2/smoke detector. I feel the price is just a tad over what it should cost the consumer. Overall, it looks good and the motion sensor night light is perfect. I purchased the wired so I wouldn't have to change the batteries down the road. The bracket holding the detector is not as flush ad the battery one.

We recently bought five of the Nest Protect 2nd Generation Smart Smoke/Carbon Monoxide wired alarms to replace the outdated units in our home. Not only are these alarms chock-full of smart technology that integrates seamlessly with other Nest products (i.e. Next Thermostat), the units themselves are sleek and beautifully designed to match any decor. Some of the most notable features is the constant self-monitoring (several times per hour) of the units and the motion sensor night light which gives off an ambient glow when tripped (great for those mid-night restroom breaks). And with Nest Thermostat integration, the alarms can be configured to turn off the HVAC unit to eliminate the spread of smoke and/or carbon monoxide in the event of an emergency. I couldn't be happier with my decision to upgrade to these units.

I have 4 of these bad boys and they all connect together and work great. I also use them with my Nest Thermostat to turn up the heat when someone comes home. I love the Path light feature to lighten up the hallway or room just enough to see things.

I am a fan of Nest products so I decided to upgrade to the Protect. Installation was simple and easily linked to my Nest account. I love the heads up feature and the ability to silence the alarm before it goes off so the kids don't get scared.

They are awesome. They look sleek and save lives. Our power went out and it notified me. It is not as sensitive as the alarm that was there, so you can burn things and not have to fan the alarm. Lol. Of overall a great product and easy to install.

Very satisfied with my nest protect and it is a huge upgrade over the smoke detectors that I had. I like the soft glow emmited by them in the dark as it provides just enough light to see. I also love that I don't have to climb a ladder anymore to test as it can be done though the nest app on my iPhone. The only reason I gave this 4 stars is because of the price. I needed 7 of these and at $99 a piece it was a pricey upgrade. But overall I'm happ with the purchase.

I have three of these units in the house. They work together with the Nest. Easy to install, both the AC and battery models. The AC model just plugged in where a detector used to be. The night light feature is also very useful.

What makes this device such a good investment is the ability to "talk" to the Nest Thermostat. This is a crucial benefit if for even one important point... As this is a dual smoke alarm / carbon monoxide detecter, if your home ever has a CO leak, the Nest Protect tells Nest Thermostat to deactivate the home furnace! As a homeowner a father to a family of five, this requires no debate!! Safety first!!!! Oh by the way, most insurance companies will offer a discount on your homeowners insurance with this capability... East to install,.. I have installed both the battery powered & the hard wired version, ... Each took about 10 - 15 minutes. Love the nightime illumination capability of this detector as well ,.. Mine are installed at the respective stair landings in our home, so nice added bonus with the nightime lighting!
