I'll start off the review saying I have had a nest thermostat for 2.5 years and I have loved it. With that said the fire detector is the same. I like how you can use one phone app to control both and since it is placed near my kitchen, i can use the app to silence the alarm before it sounds the alarm (which scare my dogs to death). Many great features for under $100.

Let me start by saying that my house has 9 smoke detectors so this was not an inexpensive upgrade. But when you way what they add in safety, I had to do it for my family. My primary reason was the voice announcement of the detection location. Imagine you have a 5 bedroom, 2 story home and are awakened at 3am to the sound of a smoke detector. You dont know where there smoke is being detected, but there is a danger in your home. Do you go upstairs, downstairs, kids room, where is the problem? Do you pull open the bedroom door (ever seen backdraft?). With the Nest detectors, your entire family is being told the location of the smoke in easy to understand voice prompts. Now you know where the problem is and your kids know where they cant go. That alone was worth every dime to me.

This is my 3rd nest protect, they are great, they just work well, and monitor carbon monoxide at the same time too. Work well with the best thermostat, all in one place online. They look so much better than the old school ones, and talk to your smart phone. I also use them as night lights, set up that way if you want. No battery's to change for years! Love 'em & Recomend them.

I replaced my old smoke detectors with this Nest Protect model. Very simple to set up and install. The nightlight feature works well. The alarm is very loud but that is what you want. I like how it integrates with the thermostat.

My smoke detectors and CO (carbon monoxide) detector were over twenty years old and due for replacement. It took me about 10 to 15 minutes to install. Following the guide I had the unit connected to our network before installation. I then shut the power off, removed old unit, installed the adapter faceplate, connected power cables (with the wire nuts), installed unit to faceplate, then turned power back on. At that point I could see the unit was connected with the small green light. I performed a status with the app and everything worked well. I turned off all lights, the unit glowed green, an indication of "OK". Has a built in night light and provides monthly reports on any issues. We just got our first alert the the other day when i was cooking in the kitchen and things got just a little smokey. Rather than that blasting chirping noise, my hallway Nest "politely" informed me there was smoke. I was able to quickly turn on my exhaust hood, open a window and clear the alert before my alarms went crazy. In addition I heard the other Nests spread the warning through the house was also very reassuring. I'm very pleased and highly recommend this product.

I am satisfied with the quality and features of the Nest Protect 2nd Generation Smart Smoke/Carbon Monoxide Wired Alarm. It's an easy install (wired), and connects to my other nest products. I upgraded two smoke detectors in my home with Nests. Purchased the first one in 2017 and never had any issues. It warns you immediately if any smoke is detected. I have and still would recommend this product. Only thing I would like to see are more features on the app to control the unit (ex. manual smoke warning cleared, if you don't want the alarm to sound, etc..).

It was time to replace our wired smoke detectors and we wanted to make sure the new ones were of good quality and also alerted us to carbon monoxide levels. Nest is pricey, but its worth every penny. It took only a few minutes to pair and install.....couldn't ask for more!

Recently added the Nest Protect Smoke detector to our smart products array. The unit is attractive and seems to work well. One little glitch was that in setting it up it speaks the command "For English press the button now". As I was figuring out where the button was, it is the big nest circle in the center of the detector, I finally went to hit it just as it started saying "Por Esp..." So my language was Spanish. Went into the app to change to English but it took 24 hours to update. Not the biggest deal but was kinda funny.

Have these installed all around my house. Great to be able to see the status of my home while I'm away and have the peace of mind that things are okay via cell phone. Also provide a neat nightlight at home when movement is detected in a dark room. Additionally, it's great to have these set up with my Hue lighting system which allows me to get alerts visually as well

Great product. Not latched on to a single ecosystem in the house. These work well and last. Purchased this one as the previous was approaching end of life.

Living in the country we worried about leaving our pets at home and one day coming home to find out something happened and we had no idea. This was easy to install and we are able to check on our app from time to time and set up alerts for anything we want. Happy with this purchase.

This is our second house to put Nest protect's throughout. I cannot stand the random chirping and trying to figure out which alarm is going out. The nest protect never does that. It's also very modern and sleek. And I love that it functions as pathway lighting as well through the house. (we turn it off for bedrooms, but leave it on in the hallways)

Easy to install, both soft and hardware are straight forward. Just a bit expensive. But I figure it just looks cool.

These are super easy to install and love that I no longer get uncontrolled alarms when doing some cooking. It will still detect smoke from cooking but will just talk to you and allow you to silence it on the app instead of the normal full on alarm behavior of standard detectors. Pathlight is helpful in the right locations as well.

This is a great smoke detector. I was looking to modernize my home with more modern technology and the nest system did just that. It was very easy to install, setup with the app was fairly simple, looks clean installed and functionality is great! If you are looking to replace current detectors, while it is a bit more pricey it is well worth it.

Love the fact that these are wirelessly connected to all my other nest protects. Expensive but definitely worth the investment. Will buy more as my old fire and smoke alarms go out. Very simple setup and love that I get alerts on my phone even if I’m not home. Great peace of mind.

This is so cool...no more beeps in the middle of the night..it self checks every month...I love that it is a smoke/carbon monoxide alarm...I really like that it tells you what room has a problem...I also love the night light feature...it lights your path, when you get close to it...or you can have the light stay on all night, if you like...great for a kids room.

This is my second Nest Protect and eventually I'll have replaced all the wired detectors in my house with these. I *hate* having a 2am beep about a battery being low and no idea which sensor is going off. The Protect doesn't do that, and can even alert you on your phone when the battery's getting low! Worth its weight in saffron! :-)

This is my second nest protect and I love these. So nice to have smoke and co2 in the same device plus the connectivity to my phone to know that they're working. Well worth the price! Also, if you happen to burn something on the stove it warms you before waking up the kids!
