But can't connect to google home only connects to Nest app. This product will expire in 10 years make sure to check the expiration date before install.

Having the Nest Protect integrated with your other smart devices in the Home app can be a great addition to its features and functionality. We’re always listening to our customers’ feedback, and our team is continuously working on a more seamless solution. We appreciate your patience as we create a better experience.
Meanwhile, with a Nest Aware subscription, your Google speaker or display (Google Home Mini, Google Nest Hub, etc.) can pick up the sound of any smoke or carbon monoxide alarm and send you an alert from the Home app. You need the Home app to turn on sound detection for your speaker or display and change settings.
Also, all carbon monoxide (CO) alarms expire because their sensors have a limited lifespan. Because CO sensors have a limited life expectancy, certification standards require Protect to chirp after its sensors have expired or have failed. To help you remember to replace your Protect before it expires, you’ll receive reminders long before your Protect’s expiry date. You’ll no longer be protected from smoke or carbon monoxide if you don’t replace your Nest Protect when it expires.

You must download two apps, actually - Nest and Google Home, to use it. That right there is confusing. The reason we bought this was to remotely monitor my mother's house in another state for fire safety. We discovered that when an event occurs, such as the smoke alarm going off, an event shows up in the app, but it doesn't give you any notification on your phone. So the only way I would know of a fire if I am not in the house would be if I were constantly checking the app for a new event. I saw no way to turn on notifications in either app. Apparently, you would get notified before on older versions, but maybe with the latest/Google version, the notifications stopped happening. The young lady, Nesha, who handled the return for my mother at the Best Buy in Fort Myers, was delightful and made the return process fast and simple.

Nice smoke and carbon detector.

Shut off power, remove old detector and wiring connector, insert new wiring connector and mount new Nest unit base and twist the unit onto the base, turn on power. Installation was less than 20 minutes. Only issue is that Nest doesn't support windows phone.

If you have other Nest produtcts, then this is a good purchase because it will interact with the Nest thermostat to turn it off if it detects CO2 as well as helping the Nest thermostat learn when someone is home for advanced heating/cooling schedules. I gave this a 3 star review because I can’t believe the thermostat doesn’t have the connectivity wire that links it in with the rest of the non-Nest fire alarms in your house. So, if this fire alarm goes off, it will not trigger the other non-Nest fire alarms in the house as well. If you have multiple Nest Protect units, then they will talk to each other and alarm, but that’s not good enough in my opinion. It’s a way to get you to buy multiple Nest Protects and that is kinda lame in my opinion. Installation was super easy, software setup is very intuitive.
