Late one night they all came on and a loud voice alerted us to "smoke in the hallway." We jumped up to grab our kids and by the time we reached them another alert said "smoke in hallway clearing." Turned out to be a candle burning out but it was so helpful to know exactly what the issue was and where it was happening.

Give peace of mind when not at home. Most convenient feature is the LED path light that illuminates your path when it detects someone walk underneath it at night. The light can be dimmed or turned completely off.

This is because Google expects you to have separate SSIDs for 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. After wasting a lot of time with useless error codes and starting over and over, I found the suggestion online and it worked. If they fixed that one thing, this would have definitely been a 5 star review!

Nest Protect connects to the Internet using the 802.11 b/g/n 2.4GHz networks and won’t be able to find your network if it’s set up to be in 5GHz-only mode. It also requires IPv6 in order to be added to the Nest app. Some smart home devices only use the 2.4 GHz band and will not be available for setup if your phone is on the 5 GHz band. In addition to Nest Protect devices (on software version 4.0 or higher), the Nest app can use the Nest Guard, Nest Hello, Nest Cam (Indoor and Outdoor), Nest Learning Thermostat 3rd Gen, Nest Thermostat E, and Nest Connect to pair new products to an account. If the Nest app uses an assisting device (another Nest product in your home), the assisting device, while connected to a 5GHz network, may try to communicate to the Nest Protect or be out of range of the Nest Protect.

You feel secure about the state of your home whether you're physically there or not. Smart device that works with Nest and will notify you over the app.

Especially if the devices are high up as it will require a ladder to reset the device via a QR code. Also being that they are wifi they may eat up some bandwidth and lack compatibility with other smart home apps. Would have preferred z-wave integration. Similar devices are also significantly cheaper.

Resetting your Nest Protect was a great idea to try and fix the issue. If you´re willing to try, we recommend doing the troubleshooting steps below to help isolate the issue further:
- Disable the cellular/mobile data for your mobile device. If you’re using your cellphone to check, make sure it’s connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your Protect. To help make sure cellular data is off, turn on Airplane mode and then turn on Wi-Fi.
- Make sure the Nest app version is up to date.
- Restart your router to reset your internet connection.
- Check for interference. Connectivity issues can be affected by factors such as physical barriers (like, walls or building materials), furniture and appliances, or even neighboring wifi networks.

Good, with potential caveat about the battery

Unfortunately one of them reported an issue within a day or so of being plugged in saying the backup battery was low. So I bought the super-expensive Lithium AA batteries and ... same thing. Apparently it's a quality issue and it keeps showing up (from what I read in multiple forums). My wife took it back to Best Buy and was able to exchange in store no issue and this one works fine. So just FYI that if you get this battery issue, just get it replaced ASAP.
