Especially if the devices are high up as it will require a ladder to reset the device via a QR code. Also being that they are wifi they may eat up some bandwidth and lack compatibility with other smart home apps. Would have preferred z-wave integration. Similar devices are also significantly cheaper.

Resetting your Nest Protect was a great idea to try and fix the issue. If you´re willing to try, we recommend doing the troubleshooting steps below to help isolate the issue further:
- Disable the cellular/mobile data for your mobile device. If you’re using your cellphone to check, make sure it’s connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your Protect. To help make sure cellular data is off, turn on Airplane mode and then turn on Wi-Fi.
- Make sure the Nest app version is up to date.
- Restart your router to reset your internet connection.
- Check for interference. Connectivity issues can be affected by factors such as physical barriers (like, walls or building materials), furniture and appliances, or even neighboring wifi networks.

Unfortunately one of them reported an issue within a day or so of being plugged in saying the backup battery was low. So I bought the super-expensive Lithium AA batteries and ... same thing. Apparently it's a quality issue and it keeps showing up (from what I read in multiple forums). My wife took it back to Best Buy and was able to exchange in store no issue and this one works fine. So just FYI that if you get this battery issue, just get it replaced ASAP.

Late one night they all came on and a loud voice alerted us to "smoke in the hallway." We jumped up to grab our kids and by the time we reached them another alert said "smoke in hallway clearing." Turned out to be a candle burning out but it was so helpful to know exactly what the issue was and where it was happening.
