Good but not great

Sucking up drywall dust made it go off. As well as the steam from my kids humidifier. Even though I was trying to silence it , the alarm continued to go off.

Thanks for sharing your feedback on Nest Protect. Getting false alarms can be annoying and this is certainly not the experience we want you to have with our product.
As with any smoke alarms, dust build-up on the outside or inside of Nest Protect can impact the functionality. So it’s important to keep your Nest Protect free of dust and to clean it if dust is building up. For regular maintenance, simply wipe the outside of your Nest Protect with a soft, slightly damp cloth. If it needs a thorough cleaning, you can follow the detailed cleaning steps on this link:

Things got a little smoking when I was using my cast iron pan on the stove and they went off. Went into the app, but it wouldn’t let me silence from there. Had to physically silence it on the device. That was a let down. Otherwise, I do like them and good for peace of mind.

Posted .Hi there, DavidB. Thanks for sharing your experience with the Nest Protect (wired). If the level of smoke or carbon monoxide is low, Nest Protect will alert you using Heads-Up. Nest Protect knows what smoke is, but not what is burning (like toast). If the smoke level rises, Nest Protect will sound a loud, piercing alarm. You can disable Heads-Up for smoke and carbon monoxide from your Nest app or the Web. But for your own safety, Emergency Alarms cannot be disabled since they detect dangerous situations that require you to move quickly to safety.

Great idea, but still slightly flawed

Although these smoke detectors communicate with each other wirelessly, I wish I had the option of a wired connection that would work with my Security system. The product works really well, but unfortunately I'm not able to use them anymore due to my homeowners insurance.
