Not reliable wire detection

This thermostat is uncontrolable

Owned for 1 week when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this thermostat so I could see the temperature in my house when I was not home and adjust it on my phone. I usually set the temperature very high when I go out so that the HVAC doesn't turn on, around 90 degrees. This will sound unbelievable, but this thermostat will not allow a person to set the temperature in thier home to a certain level when they go out. When your phone is not there, it will automatically put the temperature to 83 degrees and I am told you cannot disable this feature! You can set the thermostat to HOLD your set temperature for 24 hours only when you are gone. I called Nest support twice on this issue and was told that this auto feature cannot be disabled.

The Nest Thermostat has different ways, in the Home app or on the thermostat, to manage temperature control for your home. When you set your Nest Thermostat to hold the temperature, it will maintain that specific temperature for as long as you want. Never change your router password

There is no way to just change the password. You have to factory reset, and start all over again. This goes for EVERY Google product, their smart displays, speakers, smoke detectors. It's ludicrous.

There is no need to factory reset your thermostat to connect it to a different network. Please go to Settings > Select account > Select disconnect. This will remove the thermostat from your account and Wi-Fi network while preserving your settings. However, if you’ve used the original Nests, you’ll be disappointed with the quality of this one. Feels cheep, doesn’t work as smoothly, just all around not great.

Cost cutting move by Nest

It's much cheaper than my unit in terms of construction and design. It lost too many features from the old unit, so I gave it away.

Stopped after 2 months

It has stopped working after 2 months. Thankfully it didn't stop on the cold days we were recently having. Actually installing it wasn't that hard but to set it up with the apps were a bit annoying.

Nightmare

Looks cool, but it's a mess to install and get working if you have older systems. The hours spent to just get it running...and still problems. If you have a new built house, perhaps it's easier. Wish I would have kept the old thermostat in.

While the Nest Thermostat is compatible with 85% of HVAC systems and designed to receive the needed power from the heating and cooling wires, some systems like heat-only, or cool-only heat pumps may require a common (C) wire to operate.

I had to set it up in Google Home but The nest sensor would not set up in the Google home app. It said to put it in the Nest app. I even had the geek squad here and they said there was an update error with nest!! and no customer service!! I will never buy another nest product.

This caused the AC compressor to run continuously without also turning on the fan. Consequently the AC compressor and cooling coils froze completely and had to be repaired. This also caused a spike in energy usage which significantly raised our electric bill. Replaced with a better unit after only 1 week. Flashy design with laughably poor quality.

I love it,now when I'm away from home I can make sure my furry baby is comfortable and I will be when I get back home from my phone.

When hooked up and having the Google power connected it only allowed the furnace to blow cold/room temperature air. Google support was terrible. Swapped out to old thermostat and everything worked as it should. Nest has really gone down hill in quality, I will never buy again.
