Perfect Combination of Hardware and Software
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The design of the Pixel 8 Pro is unique. The camera bar makes it stand out and is visual interesting. The back glass is a nice texture. The camera bar extends the width of the device, making it is easy to use while sitting flat on a table without rocking. This is a premium looking device, and arguably the best looking in current smart phones. Set up was easy and enjoyable. Anybody can go through the set up\onboarding process with ease. Features are clearly explained and tutorials are there if needed (for system swipe navigation, for example). I activated the eSim with Google Fi. This was so easy to do by simply downloading the app and walked through the process. The screen is probably the best I’ve even seen on a phone. It can get so bright that viewing outside is not an issue. I like that the screen is flat. The high and variable refresh rate keeps everything smooth. The device can be unlocked with face or fingerprint, in additional to the usually PIN\Passcode. This is an example of the setup process and ease of use. It walks you through setting both up (if you want) and explains how they are used. Face unlock has a ring light up around the front facing camera so that you know when it attempts to unlock. The ring around the camera is such a nice touch and provides satisfying feedback to let you know what is going on. Face unlock doesn’t work well in low light or darkness, though, which is expected without additional sensors. For situations where face unlock doesn’t work, or you don’t want to bring the device up to your face, the fingerprint works perfectly. This is a perfect combination of biometric unlocking. The face unlock also has a higher security rating then before, making it allowable in banking and other secure apps. Cameras have advanced features if you want them, but otherwise they are just perfect. The telephoto lens is unreal. The 5x zoom is perfect, and the 30x is magical. Macro photos and nightlight are other excellent features. The haptic feedback on the device feels natural and not distracting at all. Android on Pixel devices is just easy to use, perhaps even more so that the other well known operating system. Call screen is one of my favorite features. It helps to avoid spam calls and is easy to use to interact with the caller. A VPN is included so you don’t need to pay for another VPN service. Android now has better controls of Ads and Privacy in the operating system. Google play store has clear statements on what apps have access to and info that they can request from you and your device Sound from speakers is just average. I don’t use the speakers often, but they are just OK for listening to music at a somewhat loud volume. I should note that while on calls as a speaker phone it had no problems. The phone is a bit heavy, but not considerably more than the competition. I’m OK with this because of the large screen. One last thing, the thermometer. I’m just not sure why this feature is included. It doesn’t (yet) work on people, and even if it did I’m not sure that I would use it. Overall, if you are looking for an Android device, this is it. The operating system is intuitive and easy to use. The hardware design is perfect and unique. The cameras are amazing. The software has useful features, and can be as advanced or as simple as you like.

Wow Google is going big this time around!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Google Pixel 8 is definitely a phone worth looking into . It's more affordable than most top tier phones in the market today. You get lots of features that otherwise would cost you much more with other companies. I have used an older pixel before and I was impressed but after some time I felt the quality wasn't there and the few exclusive features were played out on it. The pixel 8 pro got redesigned no more curved glass, bright and I mean a very bright screen . I'm not even using it to max brightness on sunny days . I love the material used on the phone no fingerprint on the back and the design overall is very pleasing. Calls sounded clear and the people can hear me even with background noise on my end. Definitely the new google tensor processor paired with the Google AI is the key to this phone. I was shocked at some of the other hardware , like the cameras, sensors and etc. Usually other companies use better ones, but as I saw my videos and photos they look the same or even better. In no way I feel the phone was rushed because the software is where the phone outshines where there are supposed to be flaws. Google AI just works well on everything in this phone. Because I took the photo I'm looking at the screen and wasn't too impressed. What I didn't know is googles software fixes what I saw wrong and you really need to see it in person to understand. The photo was enhanced. Even the ones I took in the with barely any light were better. Post editing on the pixel 8 pro is top notch. I don't need to download another editing software I just use the one already built in. Remove items or even move them around I'm like this is included in the phone??? I recorded my trip on the bike while moving I thought it would be bland cuz that's what I'm seeing on the screen , but once I open the video it looks Soo much better and editing it to my liking is a plus . I literally think that the other companies are going to have a problem catching up software wise . Watching TV shows and movies was exceptional after I turned on the smooth display. For some reason it's off and keeps the screen at 1080p .

I did not quite like it
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. There was a dead pixel right in the center of the screen, interestingly only visible as a permanent red pixel when refresh rate dropped down to 1 to save battery. Did not see any menaingful improvement over 7 pro at all. It did not feel faster, same memory issues were there, software felt rushed not optimized. Most importantly battery life was not any better. Returned the device, picked up an iphone, never looked back, cant believe after 8 iterations of cellphone making google still cant prevent quality control issues and deliver a reliable device.

Worth the price, a leap over previous Pixel models
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Google has made strides to solidify their pixel series of devices as main stays in the ever evolving, on-the-go, way of life. So then, I'd be remiss if I didn't try this year's offering for myself. It's about time we take Google seriously, as they don't seem to be bowing down anytime soon. That said, I believe the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 pro are premium mobile devices, but not for everyone. I've had the Pixel 8 pro for about a week and that's what I'll be focusing on for the purpose of this review. As I've grown accustom to my personal foldable phone, it was nice to go back to a standard screen size of 6.7 inch, which is plenty for a main screen. Speaking of the screen it's probably the brightest display I've ever used on a mobile phone, with 2,400 nits of peak brightness. This does help in higher lit environments especially outside during the day. Overall the design is largely the same with a few minor adjustments like smaller bezels, though the easily recognizable rear camera bump is unchanged. And this is where the Pixel sets itself apart. The cameras here paired with the innvotive AI tech make it the main selling point of the device. After all, pixel is in the name. Photos have never looked better and my favorite new addition is the "best take" feature, which eliminates the fuss of taking pictures of my kids who never can quite sit still for that perfect photo. Essentially google's software can now change the faces of individuals to better fit the photo, for example if someone wasn't looking straight or blinking. It's actually quite fascinating. There's more new additions like the audio magic eraser, which does exactly how it sounds, erases unwanted background noise. It's not perfect but is seriously insane tech that can only get better with time. With the new Tensor G3 processor, performance is the best on offering from Google and it makes daily use a breeze. Everything feels quick, fluid and intuitive. The feedback and vibrations especially, are very enjoyable and make sense. You'll also feel at home with the full suite of Google assistant features that you've come to know and there's some quality of life introductions such as the summarize option. Summarize, will sum up a page you're viewing and present you with a few bullet points that contain key info. A welcome option when you just need information quickly or in a pinch. This feature is particularly useful, since I'm not a big reader. For those interested in fitness, you'll be surprised to see Google has included a temperature sensor, specifically on the Pixel 8 pro only. I was impressed to learn just how accurate most tempoature readings were during my testing. Even random objects like, a remote if you were ever curious. It's incredible that it was even added, and it actually works! Now I mentioned that the Pixel wasn't for everyone and that's because, performance is still not on par with other flagship mobile devices. For me as a gamer, I do like playing more demanding games on my phone. However, Google's tensor G3 is more than enough for everyday use but doesn't quite have the same level of quality when playing games such as genshin impact. Not a deal breaker by any means, this just means the Pixel is not specifically targeting a gaming audience and that's okay. What the Pixel 8 pro does do well, it does with ease and the raw power of the cpu is a welcome improvement. From multitasking to video editing everything is buttery smooth and battery life respectable. In short, the Pixel 8 pro is definitely worth the asking price of $999, which is significantly lower than most competition. The new additions from the previous Pixel 7 and 7 pro are bountiful enough to warrant the additional price hike especially if your already a Pixel user. What you're paying for is a great phone with plenty of interesting tech and straight forward design that also encompasses impressive AI tech to improve day to day use. While not the best looking phone in town, I absolutely recommend the Pixel 8 pro or even the base pixel 8, if you're at all curious, you can't go wrong with Google's latest offering.
