One has tk stay cpnnected to the mode via ethernet so it wont expand your range that far. I made the mistake of thinking that this connects via wifi. I repeat one needs to connect to the modem to then expand youe wifi. Had to return this for the three pack

Yes, the Google Wifi needs to be connected to the modem via Ethernet, but the succeeding Google Wifi devices can be connected wirelessly. This does not work as well as they proclaim and I have 3 of them in my home. It is not faster for sure and it was quite expensive too. I have also found the Best Buy doesn't have great customer service----it is just not good
