Many appreciate the straightforward setup and the overall quality of the product, noting the positive impact on movie nights. However, some users experienced issues with the camera's design and the adhesive's ability to securely hold the lights in place. Enhances your viewing of movies, tv and gaming
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When I first saw these on the market I didn't know if I would like these or not. If you are into a different experience watching TV for movie watching, gaming or whatever this actually will enhance your viewing pleasure. If you do not like bright lights and like a dark viewing area these probably are not for you. But if you like a different experience this is fun to play with. The installation is very easy as the directions are easy to follow. The connection to the app is easy and once you get the lights installed and synced to your phone there is alot of customization that you can do for different types of viewing. The lights sync with the sound of the TV and is very sensitive and responsive to speak and music. You can reduce the brightness to what ever level that you prefer. I did notice you do want to change based on what you a viewing but if you reduce to a lower level it seems to be a perfect level but for some movies you may want to have a brighter setting. My kids like watching the TV and putting on a music channel to watch the lights react.

Set the mood!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Its simple to use, simple to setup, looks great and works with voice assistants. What's not to love. The setup is fairly straightforward - clean the back of your TV and slap on the strip lights to it. Plug in the controller and stick it on as well. And voila, you are done! Well, partially - with this setup you can use the app to control the colors or put a pattern on, all of this after creating an account on the Govee app (ofcourse!). But the lights will not automatically change color based on what's on your screen. If you want that magic, you need to fix the camera that's in the box. Now this is where my first nitpicking grievance comes in - I really wish the camera arm was smaller so it wouldn't stick out as much from the TV. Its not too big, but its still noticeable and I made the mistake of sticking it on the top initially. Looked really odd, and 2 days in I moved it to the bottom of the TV and stuck it behind my Soundbar. The good thing is that atleast both the positions - top and bottom are supported by the system. Once you decide what position works best for you, you have to go through the calibration process (don't forget to remove the peel on the camera, I did!). The app will guide you through the process and is easy to follow, but essentially - you get 8 foam squares in the box, which you stick on to the corners and center of your TVs edges, then in the app you tell the camera where the edges are, so it focuses on colors within that area and then programs the lights accordingly. Then you select the orientation of how you've stuck the lights on - clockwise or counter-clockwise. And now, you are fully ready. You can still decide not to use the camera based lighting and set your on mood in the app, if you so choose to. But not sure why you would, I love it. The next step for me was to integrate the lights with Alexa, otherwise you have to get up and turn it on or off via the button on the box. Wish it was plugged into my TVs USB for power, so it would automatically turn on or off. But that's not an option here unfortunately. So, now with everything setup, all I need to do is ask Alexa to "Turn on Govee" (that's the name I gave the device in the Alexa app), turn on my TV and enjoy the mood. Overall, I love the look and the light change with the scene is instantaneous and seamless. I would love to see what their next versions and interations look like, because apart from some minor nitpicking I didn't find a dealbreaker here.

Movie nights just got better!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It's incredible what a bit of lighting effect can do for a room, and for a movie experience. For some time now, I had been wanting to create a theatre like movie environment for family movie nights. When the opportunity came to get my hands on the new Govee Dreamview TV strip lights, I jumped on it. The hardest part of the entire process can be the mounting of the lights. If you have a fixed mount setup, you will have to most likely remove the tv to attach the lights and camera to your TV. Luckily for me, I have a swivel mounted system on my TV and was able to extend the TV out to get the light strip and camera mounted. You also want to make sure that there is enough room on top of the TV, between the TV and sealing, for the camera. The installation of the strip and camera is straightforward. Once the actual light and camera is installed, you move on to app part of installation. The app is great and the instructions for calibration, visual effects, etc. are great. The calibration part is time consuming, but nothing too bad. Once you are done, enjoy an incredible movie watching experience with an incredible backlight effect. It really makes family movie nights that much better. My son loves it! I would highly recommend the Govee Dreamview strip lights to anyone!

Enhance Your TV & Music Experience
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This set up comes with 12.5 ft TV LED Backlights strip, 1080p camera, a control box, an adapter plug and a user manual. Before putting the light strip to the back of your television, plug them in and make sure they work. The lighting strip is simple to install as long as you have a steady hand. Simply peel the adhesive protector off as you firmly press the lighting strip into place as close to the edge as you can. You will need to position the camera at the top center of the television and peel the adhesive protector off and press that into place. Plug everything into the control panel and stick that in a good position on the back of the television and plug the adapter into an outlet. You will need to pair the lighting strip with the Govee Home App to use the functions for the light strip. First off, you will need to calibrate the camera with the app. This can be a bit time consuming (but needed) to have these lights work great. The camera picks up the colors on the television screen and has the light strip mimic the colors. The backlighting really enhances watching television. It almost makes the screen feel bigger because of the colors extending out. If you feel the colors are not exactly the same as the television you can use the app to change saturation and such for a better color experience. You may also want to change setting within the app for different things you are watching, such as music, movies, etc. A wasn’t too thrilled about the camera sticking out from the top of the TV, but with the lighting it definitely made it worthwhile and I don’t even realize it is there. I really enjoy watching television more with this set up. It gives a whole new level of experience and really gets you into the action.

Good product. Needs better adhesive.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. For the price and what this does and offers it is a overall good deal. And much cheaper option than the Philips Hue with pretty much the same purpose. It is a little weird at first having this device sticking out from the top of your TV but you quickly get used to it. The colors display pretty well for the most part. There are some parts you notice where it's not as fluid or consistent with colors but for the price point it works very well. The main issue I seem to have so far is that the weight of the camera eventually pulls on the adhesive. Because it uses adhesive to stick to the top of the TV as most adhesive does it slowly wears off & starts to stretch. So now I found myself trying to find intuitive ways to realign the camera such as using duct tape or even strings or some type of weight to keep the camera in his place. Because if the camera moves then your color accuracy is completely off. However though even with the small quartz I still would highly recommend this product. They just need better adhesive. Or some type of clamp system.

Disco and theater in a box.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The idea of this is pretty neat. Opening the package you have everything you need to get started along with a quick start guide. Once you get it all set up the camera needs calibrated in order to properly identify areas of the screen. What I like about this is that it looks really neat with the lighting behind the tv. Here is where I am running into problems. I have watched 2 movies and it does an amazing job of identifying blues and reds but for some reason with blacks or darker colors it lights up green. My second problem I have is the app is pretty difficult to understand. There isn’t any explanation of what each mode does or how to tweak the current settings. I’ve found myself just clicking through all the modes and settings trying to understand what each one does. I’m confident that I will eventually be able to figure out the extra greens and modes but for someone not so tech savvy it would be very confusing. The camera isn’t nearly as noticeable as I expected and the adhesive is very strong. I have an extremely thin OLED and the camera feels secured very well despite very little to stick to. The music mode is pretty cool. When it’s dark outside it turns your house into a disco with the built in mic. Overall if I can figure out how to adjust some colors I will love this hence the reason I took away a start.

a great addition for movies
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have seen these back lights at friends houses for a while and had been wanting one. I was wondering how easy it was to setup etc and had just never taken the plunge. I have bought lights from Govee from an online retailer (you know the name I probably can not say it on here) and I have been pretty happy with their LED string lights. Always good to use a name you have used previously. if you have ever put in LED strip lights, you can do these. Plan your way around the TV ahead of time. You do need the app, I have an iPhone. Setup is pretty simple like I said. the lights plug into a power socket (outlet creep is a thing again so you need to outlets or use the end of the strip). You can partially control the lights from a box attached to the lights, I really do suggest the app. There is a light sensor arm, it is pretty massive and sticks out about a foot. I moved it around to make it less noticeable. You do need to use the app to set up where you have the lights and what you want them to do.

Quality lights, calibration/camera lacking.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Before installing this Govee kit I had a cheapo brand I bought online on the back of my tv. It worked for what it was and eventually shorted out because the quality just wasn't up to par. This kit from Govee is a major step up in quality. The lights are thick and rubberized and have a medium adhesive backing. Where my old led strip had to be cut and installed into a led coupler of sorts, the Govee kit has a break point at each corner where it's just normal wire. Makes it easier to install and easier to center the lights on the back of the TV. Once installed, setup was relatively simple. Connected to my network and calibrated. Because my 65" tv is so thin, I decided to try to start calibration on the bottom or thicker part of my tv. When the camera took a picture of the tv to calibrate, I could not see the top of the tv. I went with it anyway and got so-so results. I didn't want to settle so I moved the camera to the top of the tv, mind you the tv is basically bezel-less on the top so this is against my better judgement. Same issue as before, the camera could not recognize the bottom of the tv. For the next few days I've gone back and forth top and bottom looking online for suggestions and watching youtube vids until I finally settled on the bottom and was able to wedge a piece of of the orange foam in behind the camera backing in order to angle it more towards the top of the tv. The camera still did not recognize the top of the tv as a whole, but it's the best I could do. Basically at this point the LED's at the bottom of the screen do a great job reading color on the screen but the LED's at the top of the screen mostly stay one hue the whole time. I question why the camera is made stationary on the stand. Why not put a few small hinges at the camera at the arm and at the base to control the angle better? Instead you have customers searching for solutions by adding foam pieces behind the camera base. Another issue is when calibrating once you get the blue dots at the tv edges as best as possible, it allows fine tuning with orange dots, however those orange dots are only on the bottom part, none at the top. Adding the fine tune calibration option to the top would likely solve most of the issue. I'm guessing there's a reason why this is done this way but maybe an app update could help? The lights lights are strong and used as a static color look amazing, I just assume this kit is not made for all tv's and some will suffer the same issues I am dealing with. I'm not giving up on this kit, I'm going to figure out a way to make it work because the immersion at the bottom of my tv looks great, but a few design and app tweaks could make this Govee product a definite buy at this price range.

Immersive and Eye-saving
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm a sucker for anything with RGB lights, so this was right in my wheelhouse. It's pretty cool how much more immersive this makes TV viewing, especially if your TV is set up in a dark area of the room! Setup is easy, but be advised that if you TV is wall mounted like mine, it'll likely have to come down to stick the LED strips on properly. Once you have access to the back you'll also want to make sure it's dust free and then use alcohol wipes to make sure there are no oils or anything that will keep the strips from sticking. The adhesive on these is very strong and seems like they should stick for the long term. I've had some cheaper LED strips that have come loose over time, but these have 3M VHB on the back which is used to install trim on cars, so they shouldn't be going anywhere. Keep in mind this set is for a 55-65" TVs and cannot be trimmed down for smaller sets. Each segment is connected with a thin flexible wire so you don't need to that trick of folding the corners over at an angle like with cheap light sets. At first I couldn't figure out how to wrangle the corners so they don't pop up until I figured out that's what the plastic clips that came with it are for. The strips, power and camera all plug into a central box that also sticks to the back of the TV. There's no chance of a mistake since the lights are USB-C and the camera is regular USB. The whole thing can be controlled by an app, but I would be sure to put the box somewhere you can get to the buttons just in case, especially if there isn't much clearance between the TV and wall. The camera that has to go on the top of the TV to read the screen and set the light colors according to what's on screen. During setup you need to stick some included orange foam targets in the corners and sides of the screen. I was a little hesitant to stick something on the front of my OLED set, but they came off clean. I would advise sticking them on gently and being careful removing them though! Once you have them set up you can switch between a bunch of different modes in the app. In addition to the cool immersive effect there are a few static modes and some that are synced with sound. The sound-driven ones are a bit distracting for me, so I don't use them very often. The immersive effect is really cool. The camera works with the interface box to assign colors to look like an extension of what's on screen. It's most effective at night when it's dark in the room and keeps the contrast between the set and the darkness around it to a minimum to make it easier on the eyes. If you're into home theater or gaming on your big screen this is a great way to put the finishing touch on your setup!

Very nice effect for a lot cheaper than elsewhere
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've always seen the Hue demonstrations with the lights that extend the edges of your TV and make the room glow with whatever you're watching. They always looked really neat but I couldn't bring myself to spending Hue money on it. This set isn't bottom of the barrel cheap or anything but it's much more affordable and does a really good job at giving you that effect. Even if you need an ugly camera on your TV to pull it off. Setup is fairly easy depending on where your TV is and if you need to take it off the wall to get things done. The light strip is rolled up nice for you and has each "edge" of the TV separated so you know how to center them on each side of your TV. The kit even comes with some alcohol wipes to help you wipe things down so the adhesive sticks nicely. The app was also easy enough to use even if it was a little bloated with extra website features I won't ever use. You don't need to actively create an account just to use the app, which is always nice. Calibration is easy enough to do that it doesn't take a lot of effort to re-calibrate if you don't have the desired result the first time but on my 65" TV, it went well on my first try. The one benefit the more expensive light kits have is the fact that they process the direct HDMI signal to find what colors to change the LEDs to. This kit makes things cheaper by using a camera that you hang over the top of your TV so it can see what colors to use. It's brute force and analog and I can respect it for that but the camera doesn't look great. My TV is hanging fairly high on my wall so it doesn't really get in the way or become super obvious but it's noticeable. The effect is really cool. It's bright enough without being crazy (and it can be adjusted). Colors may not be perfect in every scene or situation but it does a good enough job for you to get that cool, subtle, extension of your TV into your room. I like it. If you want a neat party trick for your TV and don't want to spend all the money on the crazy expensive varieties (but also don't want to dive into the bargain bin), this might be the TV backdrop light strip for you!

Cool RGB Lights with lots of Options
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have always been a big fan of bias lighting behind TVs. It just adds to the contrast levels of your TV, especially in low lighting such as night time. So I was excited to upgrade my cheap basic RGB one that you can get anywhere really to a smart enabled one. Setting up the strip was very easy, it has very good adhesive that actually you could take off and move around and it still has good sticking action. I have a 65" Vizio and it was able to completely surround the back of the TV with no shortage of coverage, it was the perfect amount. The controller also sticks to the back of the TV and you can mount it anywhere to fit your needs. Now to the camera functionality. I thought it was kind of odd that a camera would sit on top of my TV and basically watch TV to adjust colors (if set to that mode). It looks like some robot from the 60's portrayed on television, and quite frankly, it is a little concerning having a camera always active, especially now and days with security exploits galore. I don't trust it to be honest, I do not trust that this thing is impenetrable to a hack, and quite frankly, the feature is just gimmicky to me. Did it work? Yes, but not in the way I wanted it to. Sometimes it would be too much and distracting and honestly hurt your eyes depending on what you were watching. Really, it is just a personal preference. The music sync is cool, you can adjust it as well the lighting schemes, everything is extremely customizable, almost to a fault with how much you can customize the lighting, it gets kind of cumbersome. The smart home feature with Alexa doesn't work. It worked once, then it just never worked again despite disabling and re-enabling the skill, it just is too unreliable, a real shame. This is the big reason I am knocking off a star, they need to fix this integration so it is more reliable. Overall, if you love watching movies, TV or having a cool party trick when you're playing music and want a little light show for your guests, you should check this out.

Game changer
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love these lights!! I've had led lights behind the TV before but never had the interactive lighting. I can tell you that I've been missing out, big time!! My wife isn't as excited as I am but I really think it adds to the entire movie experience. It's added another dimension as far as I'm concerned. Download the app first, it gives you more info than what's included. For example the camera can be mounted to the bottom or the top of the TV. I wish I would have known that before. I can re-calibrate it all and will but would have been nice to know that ahead of time. I kept the foam deals that are used for calibrating just in case. The main connection point should be mounted up near the top of the TV so you can manually turn it off and on. You can use the app but it's nice to have both options, I didn't know that ahead of time and will have to move that as well, also not in the paper directions. There are many options in the app for music or movies. I don't play with music part but I love all the settings and have dialed in the perfect set up. I have even re watched movies just enjoy them a little better. If you love watching movies and are ready to love it even more then go put this in your cart. You wont be disappointed.

A cool addition to any TV
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A lot of moving parts but quite the beautiful result. There is a adhesive of tape on the back of lights , there are feeders that you can slide them through and organize perfectly on the back of your TV. The power unit that attaches to the USB on the TV and gives the power to the lights should go in the center. The connection to the camera is there as well. So for all these moving parts for a part of the TV, no one ever sees. What do you get? You get a beautiful, engaging light show behind your television. It's really cool. It's almost like a 4D like experience because of the way the color travels from left to right. It's as if it's being shot from a projector and the light images from the back of the television are shooting out of the picture frame. That's the best way I can think to describe it. The first thing we watched on it was Pixar Cars, and Lightning McQueen never look better. You had the angle the camera so it didn't get in the way of the picture and that it captures the light of the television. Once you get that down it's smooth cycling.
