Nice deal before it's discontinued. There is noticeable latency (0.7s) if you are pairing two in stereo

Even though the sound is not bad. I expected more power and better bass and treble quality. the truth would buy better a homepod or sound bar sonos.

This speaker costs more than the Apple HomePod but sounds worse. It has less palpable bass, fuzzier highs, and terrible microphones for picking up your voice. Playing it at 75%+ volume? Get ready to shout at the top of your lungs to trigger Google Assistant. The only redeeming quality is the sheer number of services it can work with. Is two stars generous? Honestly, maybe.

    The best "voice controlled" speaker.

I bought two of these with the intention of using them in stereo. I tried that and it sounded and worked great. But to be honest, one speaker is enough. So I ended up using one downstairs in the kitchen and the other upstairs in the bedroom. Previously I had several Echos and regular Google Homes throughout the house. They are both pretty good, but after hearing the Google Home Max, it's hard to go back to those other speakers if you are listening to music. I'm really surprised at how much bass comes out of the Max. The sound is very balanced with smooth mids and highs as well. Overall the sound quality is outstanding. The only bummer is the free year of YouTube Red is only available if you are not already a Red subscriber.

Not good if you are thinking about moving it all around the house. It is cord powered and really heavy. I do not judging the capabilities of the product. I'm only saying that it is not portable at all.

Was excited to purchase, but it was taking down my wifi. It says it was sending to many packets and over whelming the wifi signal. Do not buy.

    Incredible Sound!

I absolutely love the Google Home products, and the Max is the best of the bunch. My first impression upon taking it out of the box was how large it is - it is bigger than it looks in pictures, and fairly hefty (shipping weight was 19.5 lbs.). Make sure you have a solid surface to place this on. The Max can be placed vertically or horizontally, and comes with a little oval-shaped rubber mat to place under it in either orientation so that it sits slightly off of the surface you place it on. Setting it up was a breeze - plug it in, download the app, follow the app's instructions, and there you go. It takes no more than 2 or 3 minutes. I have different uses for each of my Google Home devices, and my Max is used primarily for listening to Spotify. Google Assistant is a nice added bonus for sleep timers and alarms as well as other things, and gives me the answer I'm looking for most of the time. It is not perfect yet, but the great thing about these smart home devices is that they are always learning. Where the Google Home Max really shines for me is the sound. It has plenty of volume for my needs, and I like my music LOUD. I listen to almost everything, my preferences being electronic music such as House, Big Beat, Dubstep - basically anything that would fall into the techno category. You know, stuff with a lot of bass - which the Max delivers in spades. It has plenty of bass at the default setting, but I have mine bumped up to about 70% and it still sounds warm and punchy, not boomy or overwhelming by any means. Mids and highs are extremely clear as well, making this a fantastic speaker for any kind of music. I have tried rock, alternative, and a bit of Philip Glass, and they all sound great. I don't have any smart home gadgets like lights or thermostats yet, so I can't attest to how well those work, but I have streamed via bluetooth from my phone, and that works perfectly. It is a pricey product, no doubt, but is is exactly what I was looking for to fill my house with rich, warm music. I love it, and would highly recommend it to anyone.

Excellent, thought the sound would be deeper but very easy to set up, add to groups and operated. Down side you need to group together if you have more than one to make sure you can stream to more than one device.

Excellent Smart Speaker With Great Sound!

I bought two of these smart speakers while they were on sale for $150 each. At first I was skeptical, because I'm a self-proclaimed "audio connoisseur", and I wasn't sure how well they would perform. I can honestly say, WOW. First off, these things are bigger than you realize. Secondly, they sound great! Even for their size, I was caught off guard by how much sound each speaker can produce. The bass is deep and seems to be handle anything on the low end, while remaining punchy! The highs and mids are good, but I found that I could get them even crisper by adjusting the treble on the simplified EQ settings. I just love these speakers, and I'm very glad that I bought them. As for any reviews talking about connectivity issues, difficult setup, or difficulty with pairing two of them together... I haven't experienced any of it! Setting them up was very easy and pairing them together was quick without any issue! So, if you're on the fence about getting these, I would say do it! Fair warning to those who live in an apartment, like myself. You will likely have to turn the bass down with the EQ settings, or you're going to upset the neighbors. Lol, these things rumble and boom!

Great sound quality even at max high volume. Has better voice recognition sensors then the other Google homes. It easily picks up my voice, even from another floor.

Really Wanted to Love This But Can't

I've been holding off on purchasing a smart speaker until one came along that actually sounds good. Let me say this right off, this speaker does sound good. Really good. It gets loud, has great base, and produces clear sounds. However, that's really where my positive impressions end. I was immediately disappointed that I couldn't use my voice to play music I'd uploaded to the Google Play Music service. I have albums that are not available digitally, so these are legally ripped and uploaded songs. Funny enough, although I couldn't use voice commands to play the songs, I could play them by casting from the Google Play Music app. Ok...fine. Whatever. It's a minor inconvenience, right? Well, it is until the speakers stopped taking cast commands from my phone. I'd try to select music to play, the speaker would make a "boop!" sound, then nothing. I called support several times, and to their credit, they did a decent job over the phone. Fixes included unplugging all the Google Home speakers (I had five, two Google Home Max and three regular Google Home speakers), reseting my router, uninstalling and reinstalling the Google Play Music and Google Home apps. The system would work for an hour, then right back to the same problems. You should not have to troubleshoot your speaker every time you use it. It should just work. It broke my heart to return these speakers, but Bestbuy took them back and let me exchange them. To summarize... PROS: Great sound. Super customer service from Google and Bestbuy. Design and packaging is beautiful. Setup isn't easy, but not overly difficult either. CONS: Can't play legal, uploaded music using voice commands. Casting capability drops out constantly requiring complete reset.

Amazing for music, timer, & fun games

This speaker is unbelievably amazing. Gorgeous sound clarity, and rich bass. The smart sound allows the speaker to auto tune itself dynamically and correct for any effect in the room, even when placed in front of a lamp on the side of a couch in my living room outside my bedroom door. I set this speaker up in the room my pregnant wife and I were staying in and had it producing nature sounds by casting it from youtube Red. The sound is so rich that the nurses that were making their rounds to checkup on my wife were confused as to where the sound of crickets were coming from. One stopped in her tracks upon entering room to search with her eyes with a “how many crickets just flew in here “ look. The max works seamlessly with my home automation which is plus as well. I plan on getting a second one as well so I can pair them together for that stereo mode I keep hearing about. For now, multi-room sync with my audio groups works great. Love that immersive sound. Highly recommend adding this to your ecosystem!!

I'm an absolute audio snob. I have high end, precisely tuned audio systems in my house, my cars, etc. This thing blows my mind every time I hear it. Incredible range, from beautiful, clean, creamy bass, all the way up to the balanced and not artificially bright highs. Perfect balance, and awesome sound. And loud when you want it to be. Can't recommend highly enough. Really exceptionally well done, Google.

    Great Speakers...Horrible Input/Cast Delay

    Posted .

Speakers: Sound: 5/5 Bass: 5/5 Google Assistant: 5/5 AUX input: 0/5 1.2s delay Casting: 0/5 1.5s delay Bluetooth: 1/5 Shows up but has 0.8 delay I have had not input lag what so ever for about 1 month. Then suddenly there was this huge input lag. It is ridiculous that you can find many articles "Google Home Max has input delay and Google knows it" but no one is bothering to fix it. Paying $400 to get input lag? Really? Imagine watching you favorite youtube video and there is a lipsync delay, or pressing next on the song and there is about 2s delay before it actually switches... NOT really something that should happen to a $400 product. The Beats Pill are much better for 1/3 of the price.
